RENOVATIONS - JANUARY 2008
“The newly renovated field house allows the kids to
better ‘gear up’ for the game. And it allows a better,
more spacious flow of traffic for the players, coaches
and parents.”

Lampert Yards
Rich History, Promising Future
James Barton Design-Build has been proud to
partner with Lampert Yards for the past seven years
on lumber, windows, mill work and more. The
company was founded in 1887 by brothers Jacob
and Leonard Lampert in Sleepy Eye, Minn. Today,
Lamperts operates 35 lumberyards in the Midwest
Adam Olson
of Lampert
Yards
and the current president of the company is a fourth
generation family member.
Recently, Lamperts took a step toward creating a
more sustainable building and remodeling industry
by becoming the first certified green lumber
company in the metro area. James Barton Design
Build has always felt confident working with a
company so clearly dedicated to the industry and
current world issues. Adam Olson of Lampert
Yards says that it is also a pleasure to work with
James Barton Design-Build, “They always have
everything really well spelled-out and that makes it
easy to work with them.”

Lamperts supplied the building
materials for our 2008 Spring
Remodelers Showcase Home,
shown above in progress, and to
the right, the completed addition.
From the Desk of James Madsen
While the economy continues
to change around us, some things
never change. Homeowners always
put their hearts into creating warmth
and style in their house. We enjoy
working with more and more homeowners who
choose to enhance their current homes and remain
in their comfortable, familiar neighborhoods. The
transformations are truly incredible as families
very purposefully create new spaces that meet their

individual needs while establishing new levels of
hospitality for frequent gatherings of family and
friends.
At JBDB, we are honored to help families realize
the full potential of their house-as an investment,
but more importantly, as the place where they feel
most comfortable in the world. Thank you for
trusting us with your home projects and for
referring us to your friends and family in 2007.
We look forward to another great year in 2008.

The Design Corner:
Gathering Galley
The Design Team: (L to R)
Tamra Mueller, Pam Schuette
and Jon Hassenfritz
The kitchen is often the gathering place for
family and friends. But for John and Celia, their
1970s rambler had a small galley kitchen with
dining space for two. This made it difficult to have
large family
gatherings.
Adding on to the
home seemed
to make perfect
sense and they
decided to add
more space to the
back of the home
and completely
remodel the
interior.
The addition
consisted of one
large open great
room space that
created a seating
area for watching
TV and also an
area for a new large After
dining table that could accommodate the whole
family at holidays. Additional rooms were added
off the great room, including an office and place for
Celia’s piano, new rear hall with a half bath to
allow easier access to the back yard, and a new
mudroom with closet, connecting the kitchen to the
exterior detached
Before
garage. Additional
changes to the home
included borrowing
space from a small
unused bedroom to
expand the kitchen
and add a much
needed master walkin closet. While the
new kitchen still
retains some of its galley
feel, the expanded space
and relocated kitchen
entrance allow for
additional counter space,
full height pantry
cabinets and a raised
snack bar for casual
dining. Maple
cabinetry, granite backsplash and countertops, oak hardwoods and
enameled millwork give this new space a warm
and inviting feel. The renovated space now flows
much more efficiently and the homeowners will be
able to enjoy their new home for years to come.
Meet New Team Member Shari Leubner
James Barton Design-Build is thrilled to
introduce you to the newest member of our team,
Shari Leubner. As the office administrator, Shari
will be getting to know many of you over the
coming months. We count on her to keep the office
running smoothly and to handle everything from
accounts to human resources. Shari is new to the
remodeling industry, but comes to us with
experience as a mortgage associate and a love of
watching remodeling projects come together.
Working at James Barton Design-Build, Shari’s

favorite thing is that each day
is exciting. She and her
husband Pat are kept busy
with their daughter Brianna
and son Michael’s activities.
Shari also enjoys shopping and
entertaining with friends.
Help us welcome Shari to
the JBDB family. We know you
will agree that she is truly an
asset to our team.
