REGISTRATION
Fee: $200 per person. All proceeds directly
benefit the on-campus program.
This fee includes continuing education,
continental breakfast, lunch and downloadable
handouts.
A $25 administrative fee will be charged for all
cancellations. No refunds will be made after
April 22, 2016.
Capacity is limited. Registration is processed on
a first-come, first-served basis. Please register as
soon as possible.

ABOUT OUR PROGRAM
TRIBUTE TO A LEADER
The optometric profession has and will continue to expand its scope of
practice. As such, the need for advanced training and education in the
diagnosis and management of ophthalmic conditions continues to grow.
These conditions are not only limited to ocular disease, but also functional
vision disorders, neuro-ophthalmic disease and the recognition of ocular
manifestations of varying systemic conditions and associated treatments.
This annual conference is a tribute to
Dr. Joseph C. Toland, a PCO graduate and
professor with over 40 years of service.
His avid support of optometric education
and residency training has paved the way
for how we practice optometry.
This program features 8 hours of COPE approved continuing education.
Outstanding clinicians and educators will discuss new and evidence based
approaches in the treatment and management of ophthalmic disorders
affecting anterior and posterior segments, systemic disease, neuroophthalmic pathways, and functional vision. It will also feature our residents,
who will present two sessions of rapid fire grand rounds.
Salus University extends our deepest
respect and gratitude to Dr. Toland. In his
honor, all proceeds from this annual event
will directly benefit our residency program.
RESIDENCY PROGRAM
Salus University manages one of the nation’s largest residency programs. We
offer post-graduate training in primary care, ocular disease, vision rehabilitation,
pediatrics/vision therapy, and cornea/contact lenses. Currently there are twelve
in-house residents at The Eye Institute and twenty-five affiliated residents,
at various locations covering northern New Jersey through Florida. Our
residents receive excellent training while providing patient care to a large and
diagnostically diverse population, rotating among specialized clinical services,
attending lectures and presenting at scientific meetings.

Jo Ann Bailey, OD
Jo Ann Bailey, OD, FAAO
Dr. Bailey received her Bachelor of Science degree
in Biology from Bucknell University in Lewisburg,
Pennsylvania in 1991. She earned her Doctor of
Optometry Degree at the New England College
of Optometry in 1995, where she was the class
valedictorian. She completed her residency training in
Pediatrics and Binocular Vision at The Eye Institute in
1996. She is full time clinical staff at St. Christopher’s
Hospital for Children both in Philadelphia and at St. Chris
Specialty Pediatrics in Sewell, NJ. Additionally, Dr. Bailey
has been a faculty member of Salus University and the
Pennsylvania College of Optometry in various roles,
from clinical instructor, assistant professor, and currently
adjunct faculty teaching Primary Care of Amblyopia and
Strabismus.

Erin Draper, OD, FAAO
Dr. Erin Draper graduated from the University of
Delaware with a Bachelor of Science in Environmental
Science. She also holds a Master of Science degree from
The Pennsylvania State University. Dr. Draper earned her
Doctorate of Optometry from the Pennsylvania College
of Optometry at Salus University. She completed a
residency in Low Vision Rehabilitation at the Feinbloom
Center and a fellowship in Neuro-Ophthalmic Disease
at The Eye Institute. Dr. Draper is an Assistant Professor
at Salus University and spends the majority of her
time in clinical care at The Eye Institute in both the
Neuro-Ophthalmic Disease Service and Low Vision
Rehabilitation. She also serves as the co-coordinator for
the Neuro-Ophthalmic Disease Residency Program.
Shital Mani, OD, FAAO
Dr. Shital Mani (PCO Class of 2003), completed a oneyear residency in Ocular Disease at the State University
of New York (SUNY) College of Optometry in New York.
She then joined the New England College of Optometry
in Boston, Massachusetts as a full-time clinical assistant
professor. During this time, she also served as Director
of Eye Care Services at the South Boston Community
Health Center.
Dr. Mani returned back to her alma mater, PCO,
as a full time assistant professor. She took on the
role as the Director of Residency Programs at Salus
University. She has been the Off-Campus Director of
Residency Programs. She is also a clinical optometrist
at Monmouth Eye Care in Tinton Falls, NJ, where she
provides comprehensive patient care in a high volume
ophthalmology private practice.
Michael Rebar, OD, FAAO
Dr. Michael Rebar received his Bachelor of Science
degree from The Pennsylvania State University. He
received his Doctor of Optometry degree from the
Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Salus University in
2010 and completed a residency at The Eye Institute in
Primary Care with an emphasis in Ocular Disease.
Dr. Rebar is currently the Director of On-Campus
Residency Programs and Co-Chief of one of the Primary
Care services at The Eye Institute. He holds assistant
professor status at Salus University and lectures in the
areas of anterior segment disease, ocular immunology
and clinical procedures. Beyond his roles at Salus
University, Dr. Rebar is a member of the United States
Air Force Reserve and acts as the Assistant Chief of
Optometry.
Joseph P. Shovlin, OD, FAAO
Joseph Shovlin is a senior optometrist at Northeastern
Eye Institute in Scranton, PA. He is an alumnus (1980) of
the Pennsylvania College of Optometry where he serves
as adjunct faculty. He is a distinguished practitioner
of the National Academy of Practice, diplomate and
past chair of the Section On Cornea, Contact Lenses
and Refractive Technologies of the American Academy
of Optometry and past chair of the Contact Lens and
Cornea Section of the American Optometric Association.
He is board certified and a diplomate of the American
Board of Optometry.
Michael Trottini, OD
Dr. Michael Trottini completed his undergraduate
studies at The University of Scranton, where he received
a degree in biophysics. He received his degree of
optometry at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry
and completed a residency in ocular disease at
Seidenberg and Protzko Eye Associates. He is also an
author and columnist for Review of Optometry magazine
and frequently lectures on various ocular disease topics.
Dr. Trottini’s areas of interest are in uveitis, scleritis and
neurologic eye disease.
Residents
Our grand rounds feature residents from The Eye
Institute and external clinical sites. Our affiliated
residency programs offer challenging clinical education
and training in ocular disease and / or primary eye care
in various practice modalities.
