Enterprise Ireland
Entrepreneurs and start-up businesses are right at the heart of the drive to create jobs and
economic prosperity. Their major contribution to economic and regional development cannot
be overstated. Start-up business activity in Ireland is one of the strongest in the world, and
Irish entrepreneurs could give a master class in getting it right. The environment for new
business is one of relentless change and challenge, but once again Irish entrepreneurs have
persevered, embraced these challenges, sought out new opportunities, set up new businesses,
and gone out into new markets.
There is no let up in the appetite and ambition of entrepreneurs to set up new businesses. In
2012 alone, Enterprise Ireland invested in more than 150 high potential start-ups and early
stage businesses, a record figure. As part of the Government’s Action Plan for Jobs, our
promise and our commitment in Enterprise Ireland is to ensure that these innovative
businesses are supported in every way possible. Our priority is to provide a seamless route to
support for them to start up, grow and develop their business.
Let there be no doubt of our
commitment on this.
In direct response to the demands of entrepreneurs and client companies, we have continued
to introduce new initiatives to augment support at critical points along the start-up
development path. Competitive Feasibility and Competitive Start Funds provide young
companies with vital early stage funding to test the market for their products and ideas.
During 2012 Enterprise Ireland launched a major drive aimed boosting the number of
innovative, export-oriented businesses being set up and led by female entrepreneurs. We
have had a tremendous response from entrepreneurs to these initiatives and new funds, all of
which will in turn lead to a strong pipeline of new and innovative job-creating export-led
businesses.
Irish exports are at an all time high as demand for Irish products and services grows. This is a
time of great opportunity for ambitious entrepreneurs. Enterprise Ireland’s funding and
development supports, along with our network of overseas offices, are focussed on helping
young start-ups to scale and grow the business. The overall seed capital and VC funding
environment for new business has never been stronger.
This showcase of new entrepreneurs and high potential start-up companies is a mark of the
creativity, dynamism and quality of the Irish entrepreneurial community. We look forward to
working with them as they grow their companies and assisting them compete anywhere in the
world, winning new business and creating jobs in Ireland.
Foreword
Greg Treston
Head of High Potential Start-Ups
Enterprise Ireland
The ‘Class of 2012’ Showcase puts the spotlight on the 97 High Potential Start-Up companies
that have successfully established new businesses in Ireland over the course of the past year,
with funding and support from Enterprise Ireland. Alongside them is the crop of 60 early stage
entrepreneurs who have been supported by the Competitive Start Fund to test the market for
their products and services and progress their business plans for the international
marketplace.
There are also supports and funding available at all stages along the start-up journey from
initial steps, developing the idea, testing the market, and on to raising HPSU funding, ensuring
that Irish entrepreneurs are supported while they build strong and innovative new businesses.
Of the 97 companies that received HPSU investment in 2012, 16 are past participants of
Enterprise Ireland’s Enterprise Platform Programme (predecessor of the New Frontiers’
programme). And six of the 2012 New Frontiers participants have already progressed to the
Competitive Start Fund. New Frontiers, the Competitive Start Funds and Feasibility Study
supports are all instruments in driving the HPSU agenda. Representatives from the 2012 New
Frontiers Entrepreneur Development Programme are also in this year’s showcase.
This year’s showcase provides an opportunity to applaud entrepreneurs from across the
country for their courage, foresight and commitment in starting a business in these testing
times. Their timing may actually be perfect as they will be well positioned to catch the
upcoming recovery in world markets. The innovative and ambitious business ideas on show
here today are the result of painstaking preparation and market testing and will go on to build
competitive, export-oriented business that can compete with the best and succeed across
world markets.
Enterprise Ireland is committed to supporting these entrepreneurs to ensure that emerging
technologies and business ideas with export potential become a commercial reality. The Irishowned enterprise sector is critically important for the economy and jobs. The Government’s
Action Plan for Jobs places innovative entrepreneurs and businesses right at the heart of the
drive to accelerate jobs growth and economic prosperity. Ambitious, export focussed projects
like those featured at this Showcase and supported by Enterprise Ireland are central to this.
We wish them every success as they continue to grow their international business.

10n2 Technologies Ltd markets mobile
applications to prevent texting, phoning
(unless hands free), emailing and Internet
browsing on a smartphone while an
individual is driving a vehicle.
It has
developed an enterprise and consumer
solution and is initially targeting the
enterprise market: employers supplying
smartphones for staff in the US, UK and
Ireland.
It works by using the GPS function on a
smartphone to detect the speed of the
vehicle. Employees traveling above a
threshold speed will have their texting
capabilities suspended unless the individual
can pass an “Attention Verification Test”,
which is practically impossible to complete
if driving at the same time. In this way the
application differentiates between a driver
and a passenger when the vehicle is
traveling above the threshold speed.
The incentive for enterprises to deploy the
solution is to reduce accident damage
claims of employees, reducing insurance
premiums and liability costs associated with
law suits, in addition to lowering employee
and vehicle downtime costs.

Axonista was founded in 2010 by Claire
McHugh, CEO, and Daragh Ward, CTO.
Whilst working as a programme manager
with Setanta Sports, Claire McHugh spotted
a niche in the growing market for an online
platform that manages and distributes TV
show metadata for broadcasters to multiple

programme to develop the concept into a
start-up business. Daragh Ward came on
board as the CTO of the company.
The company’s current paying customers
include ESPN America, Setanta Sports, TV3

by Axonista. It is used by the editorial
department of a broadcaster to manage
and distribute TV show information to

Cluey has developed the world’s first fullyfeatured browser-based hospitality point of
sale (POS) system. Cluey’s interactive point
of sale is cloud based and so is very
scalable and can be sold worldwide. The
system works instantly in the browser and
continues to work when there is no Internet
connection. It is platform independent so a
business owner can choose from PCs,
mobile phones, iPads and other tablets,
which reduces costs.
The world of Electronic Point of Sale (EPoS)
is changing and Cluey is an award-winning
platform driving that change. Up until very
recently the only choice a business owner
had was to purchase a complicated and
expensive Windows-based system.
The Internet and browsers are so fast
now that online EPoS has begun. Cluey
can provide an online system to
business owners with all the features of
a traditional system, plus some new
features, but with considerable cost
savings.
Cluey won the Best New Technology
Award for 2012 which was adjudicated
by Bord Fáilte and the Hospitality
Institute. Cluey has sold and installed
their
system
in
many
locations
throughout Ireland and the UK.
They are currently processing over
€15m worth of transaction per annum.
Cluey has developed an integrated
loyalty and customer engagement
system that helps the proprietor to
increase sales and loyalty.

Day Tours World was established in
September 2011 by Cathal O’Connell and
Stephen
O’Sullivan.
O’Connell
is
founder/owner of Paddywagon Tours and
Ernst & Young Entrepreneur finalist in 2009
and O’Sullivan of Splash.ie was winner of
the 2011 Website of the Year in the Travel,
Tourism & Hospitality Category at the
Eircom Spider awards.
Based on their extensive experience in
tourism, both promoters identified a
business opportunity to develop a web
portal exclusively geared towards day
tours: activities, excursions or day trips in
any location around the world of less than
24-hour duration. Day Tours aims to be
“the HQ for things to do” aimed in
particular at small/medium-sized tour
operators. On the back of this, they have
developed a plug-in booking engine –
dayrez.com – that day-tour operators can
easily integrate into their own websites,
allowing them to take online bookings
directly.

Dimension Media IT Ltd are developing an
innovative advertising metrics and content
management system for the digital out-ofhome advertising market. Their solution
combines facial recognition software with a
camera to assess the age and gender of a
face looking at a digital sign. This data
combined with their content management
system will allow advertising to be tailored
specifically for the target audience in real
time.
One of the additional benefits of the system
is that advertisers will have access to realtime metrics around age, gender, location,
time and length of engagement of the
audience with their ad over the course of
their ad campaign.
Dimension’s
solution
will
allow
any
advertiser to download content (for
example, a JPEG or video file) over the
Internet onto their content management
system. Using the management system the
advertiser will profile their target audience,
location and budget (that is, how many
impressions they want).
A typical example would be a perfume
company running an ad for a fragrance
targeting women between the ages of 20
and 35 looking for 20,000 impressions over
a period of a month.

Full Health Medical Ltd (Full Health) was
established in Galway in 2010 to develop a
health interpretation and reporting solution
that
dramatically
improves
the
communication of medical test results to
patients.
The Full Health system automates the
process of creating a uniquely personalised
doctor's report following a preventative
health screening. It also creates powerful
group reports instantly. The current process
of report writing is time consuming and is
an inefficient administrative process.
In the majority of cases the resulting
feedback to the patient is poor. A Full
Health report can be reviewed and
approved in less than 3 minutes. It
provides uniquely personalised reports
that patients love and understand, using
plain English and clear, simple graphics.

Health and Sport Technologies, a Dundalkbased company, has developed a system
which allows an athlete/player to collect
and collate key information across four
different areas: psychological, physical,
technical and emotional, encompassing
health
indicators,
training,
tests,
competitions, injury and rehabilitation and
nutrition.
These in turn are integrated with goal
setting to provide a platform for the
athlete/player to develop and strive to
become the best that they can be. Coaches
and staff can access athlete information,
plan training and competitions and provide
feedback and motivation. Medical staff and
physios can track injury and rehabilitation.
The system is based on a modularised
platform and includes a communication
function to allow coaches and staff to
upload video clips, review performances
and communicate at a group and individual
level.
In-depth statistical analysis can be applied
against high-quality historical data and the
potential to predict outcomes and peak
performances can be greatly enhanced
using the system.

Huggity developed a post-event marketing
tool, which allows advertisers, brands,
event organisers and sponsors to increase
their return on marketing investment. It
was launched at the 2011 World Street
Performance Championships in Dublin and
featured at MTV’s biggest party of the year
in Malta. It has also been used at the Aviva
and Wembley Stadium and during the
Premier League for soccer and rugby
games.
We have developed the application,
which
is
based
on
360-degree
panoramic, multibillion pixel crowd
images taken at a venue during an
event: FanPicsTM. Once a FanPic is
posted online, users can zoom into a
crowd photo to find themselves and
their friends. They can then share a
sponsor branded message with friends
and family on Facebook, twitter or email
through our “tagging” feature.
The technology behind Huggity allows
brands and sponsors to engage directly
with their audience at concerts, sporting
events,
festivals
and
other
public
gatherings using viral marketing through
social media platforms, with Facebook
being the primary focus. It does this by
recreating the excitement of a fan
experience online, using a social media
environment and encouraging fans to share
branded content. It results in the brand
being exposed to an extended audience
that is several times the size of the
audience attending the event.
We have proved that there is a demand
for our solution and generated revenue
by working with the some of the largest
brands and clubs in the world Vodafone, Deutsche Telekom, Swatch,
Aviva, Chevrolet, Qatar Foundation,
Manchester United, Liverpool, Bayern
Munich and LA Lakers amongst others.
We are a true international company
with sales being generated in Ireland,
the UK, the US, Germany, Saudi Arabia,
Qatar, Norway and Poland.

LinkedFinance offers a new and painless
way for Irish businesses to borrow money
from a large group of real people, including
their own customers. Crowd Funding is the
new way for companies to borrow, bankers
get bypassed, the wheels of business keep
turning and everyone wins!
Person to Person (P2P) lending or Crowd
Funding is simple. People with money to
lend can lend it directly to people who need
it. With LinkedFinance lenders can lend
directly to small businesses looking for
funding. Crowd Funding provides complete
transparency to both the lender and
borrower and it brings lending back to
basics where a lender simply deposits funds
and when there are enough funds available
loans can be made to credit worthy
borrowers.
How it Works - Businesses looking for a
loan can apply at Linkedfinance.com for
funding. The loan required and full details
of the business are posted in our market.
Potential Lenders can participate in an
auction process where they bid on how
much of the loan they are prepared to fund
and the interest rate they require. The
lowest rate bids are accepted so the
borrower secures the best interest rate
possible

J Lizard Limited, trading as Logentries, is a
UCD spin-out company providing a cloudbased service for managing log data. Log
information is recorded as an IT system
runs. It is used to record the state of a
running system and is analysed frequently
(by
system
administrators,
testers,
developers)
to
understand
what
is
happening in a system: for example, in the
case of security threats, performance
issues, or when a system crashes.
The level of log information that is taking
place continually is of enormous scale. Log
data can be difficult to understand due to
the huge volume of data produced, and due
to its complex nature. Ignoring log data or
not managing it properly can lead to
system crashes, hacked systems or slow
websites
costing
organizations
large
amounts of money. Log data is a rapidly
growing data source in large organizations.

Nasctech is on course to become the world
leader in the newly emerging area of “field
operations support systems” (FSS) within
the
telecommunications
industry
by
developing innovative solutions, which
transform the management of mobile telco
field operations.
FSS, an extension of the established area of
operational support systems (OSS), is a
new market area pioneered by Nasctech. It
is the extension of OSS into field operations
that allows an operator to:
• Tightly manage their OPEX spend.
• Ensure quality work, leading to a quality
network.
• Drive operational efficiencies and best
practice business process management
(BPM) into field operations.
• Mobilize critical application.
• Improve and optimize business decisions
and performance via the STREAMLINETM
business intelligence (BI) platform.
Nasctech is addressing a previously
underserved area which is only now
becoming feasible thanks to the availability
of highispeed mobile broadband, powerful
smartphones, and the growing complexity
of mobile networks.
The solution is currently generally focused
on developing countries where the logistical
and organizational challenges are greatest.

Sarsol Ltd, trading as Redeem&Get, has
developed an online platform, which allows
businesses or merchants that run daily deal
voucher
campaigns
manage
these
campaigns more efficiently.
The Redeem&Get platform offers daily
deal publishers a solution for their
customers. The solution allows the deal
buyer to schedule their appointment
quickly and efficiently.
Since the launch of the most successful
daily deal site Groupon, there has been an
explosion of websites offering time-limited
vouchers with up to 80% price reductions
for local business services, including
hairdressers, beauty saloons, restaurants
and hotels. Daily deal campaigns are an
effective marketing tool used to attract new
customers.
It allows merchants capture redemption
voucher details, schedule appointments
during downtimes, capture contact
details and utilise a marketing layer,
which offers database management for
later stage email or mobile marketing
campaigns.
An acknowledged problem has been the
ability of merchants to effectively manage
the influx of new customers as deals must
reach a minimum of 100 sales, and to
capitalise on converting these first time
customers to repeat customers.

Apple’s 99 cent songs on their iTunes store
and a host of streaming, discovery and
sharing products such as Spotify and
Deezer
have
dramatically
changed
traditional music purchasing habits.
With estimates that significant levels of
music continue to be downloaded
illegally and with streaming services and
sales set to grow as a leading music
revenue stream, the industry can no
longer rely on physical music sales,
either as CDs or digital downloads, to
track the true popularity of particular
artists or singles.
Music enthusiasts can see in real time
the music that their friends or favourite
musicians are listening to and can also
see real-time trends by
plugging into
different locations.
Users can then
access a 30 second preview within the
Soundwave app and are given a link to
direct them to purchase the song.

VideoElephant Ltd was founded in 2011 as
an online B2B marketplace to buy and sell
both long- and short-form video content.
VideoElephant
allows
professional
producers to sell their content to web
publishers, mobile operators, video on
demand (VOD), internet protocol TV (IPTV),
the
specialist
market
such
as
inflight/instore displays, and broadcasters.
For buyers, VideoElephant provides a
centralised marketplace to cater for all their
video content requirements, reducing the
need for lengthy negotiations and contract
exchanges. For producers, VideoElephant
offers both the platform to sell their content
online and the tools to market and promote
it. This provides an extra revenue stream
as all content is sold on a non-exclusive
basis.
Web publishers, mobile operators and
VOD platforms need professionally
produced video content. Currently,
buyers have to deal through offline
distributors or with individual producers
to try and find the appropriate content.
In order to purchase video content, the
current process is to source the content
from a multitude of available producers,
wait
to
receive
screeners/DVDs,
negotiate pricing and sign written
contracts. The current process is almost
entirely offline and can take up to three
months or longer to complete.

WholeWorldBand is a platform where
anyone can earn money by recording their
own music or adding to someone else's in
sound and vision. Through the app and
platform, fans are able to collaborate with
their favourite artists by purchasing a
recording session with the artist.
An artist will contribute a “seed track”
(audio and video) to the WWB platform.
Through the audio and video capabilities of
mobile and other devices users can record
and film themselves adding their own
contribution to this track, the outcome
being a video montage or mosaic of the
user playing alongside the artist.
To illustrate, an artist could upload
vocals and guitar to one of his
unfinished tracks to the WWB platform.
Users upload their contribution to the
track by playing an instrument or by
singing lead or backing vocals. Users
can also use the contributions of other
artists/users to create a video montage
of up to 6 contributions. Users keep
their montage private or publish it to a
social platform, such as YouTube or
Facebook.

WorldIrish has developed a secondgeneration niche social network. It provides
a content platform which connects the Irish
diaspora worldwide in one location on the
web.
Aside from the growing group of Irish-born
living abroad, the broader, 50-million online
Irish diaspora is widely dispersed. Until
now, they have had no virtual home and
there has been no direct route for brands to
reach this market. WorldIrish is bringing
these groups together and are partners
with the leading organisations in this space
like the GAA, the FAI and Leinster Rugby.
WorldIrish is a place for people with a
strong common interest in Ireland and
Irishness to come together, read stories,
watch videos, share their own stories and
connect with each other.
Based on semantic technology,
WorldIrish recognises a user’s
interests to direct relevant content to them.
WorldIrish offers a unique opportunity
to connect with this previously difficultto-reach group of Irish people and those
who have a strong affinity to Ireland, its
music, literature, dance, sport, food,
culture and people.
The platform will also showcase Irish
crafts and products, tourism, travel and
genealogy services in conjunction with
select partners.

Zinc Software Ltd develops and markets
mobile healthcare products. The company
has developed a series of mobile games
based on the measurement of a person’s
heart activity. The measurement is made
with a small pulse-oximeter that is
connected to the user’s earlobe. The pulseoximeter uses Bluetooth to send signals to
a smartphone. The hardware has been
designed by the company and is being
prepared for full manufacture at this stage.
Zinc Software’s ZSensor™ is a wireless
biosensor
that
uses
pulse
oximetry
technology
to
measure
heart
rate
accurately at the ear. Pulse oximetry is the
difference in absorption of light by
oxygenated
and
non-oxygenated
haemoglobin in blood and it allows blood
flow to be tracked by shining infrared light
through
blood
vessels.
The ZSensor clips onto an earlobe and,
once powered on, it immediately starts
transmitting heart pulse data to a
Bluetooth-enabled
smartphone.
The
ZSensor has broad application, ranging
from
heart
arrhythmia
detection
to
biofeedback games. Zinc is targeting
licensing partners in a number of vertical
markets.

Established in February 2012, Exergyn is an
early stage R&D company which is developing
technology to recover energy from low-grade
waste heat, below 100°C.
The technology is expected to produce high
power-density output at a low cost, making it
highly commercial and reducing end-user fuel
usage and carbon emissions. Initial prototype
results are promising.
Potential markets include: combined heat and
power (CHP), geothermal, power plants, cargo
shipping, solar thermal, data centres, nuclear
and autos.
Excluding autos, these markets have a global
installed capacity of c.6.2m MW.
If Exergyn's planned technology were applied to
this output in its entirety, the potential (carbon
free) increase in output would be c.165,000
MW. At a (standard) price per kW of €1,000,
this suggests a potential global market of
€165bn.
The initial target market will be large-scale CHP
units, which can lose up to 25% of fuel energy
via low-grade waste heat.

RFID Technology Ltd, trading as Gesaky
Interactive, was established in April 2011 by
Alan Kearney to commercialise its new product,
the Gesaky Interactive Mirror.
This mirror combines multiple types of
technologies working together, including RFID,
facial recognition, TV/mirror technology, remote
access communication and database building.
The Gesaky Interactive Mirror is targeting a
niche market in the fashion sector. The mirror
is primarily used by retailers as a tool to
increase their turnover through cross sales and
allows their customers a unique interactive
shopping experience in store. The mirror will
also determine the customer demographics
within the retail store and use all the data
collected to produce daily retail analytics for the
store.
This data is then used by the stores for product
launches and social media campaigns.
The mirror is designed to interactively display
all images of the clothes worn by a customer
and
to
produce
real
images
of
the
recommended accessories that can be worn
with that piece of clothing.
The mirror was showcased at the London
Olympics in 2012 and was launched in Arnotts,
Ireland's largest department store, in October
2012. The company is currently working with a
number of companies internationally to roll-out
the Gesaky Interactive Mirror.

Monford Ag Systems Ltd is a new company
whose initial product, the Grassometer, is an
innovative device for measuring and recording
grass growth.
The Grassometer, which can be worn on a boot
or mounted on a stick, uses ultrasound to
measure grass height and density. Linked to an
accelerometer, the device takes a sweep of
measurements which are then linked back to
the cloud via an app on the farmer's mobile
phone.
Measurements are automatically linked to a
social data network allowing farmers and
corporate customers to share the collected
data, benchmark performance and improve
efficiency and profitability.

Benedict Research Company Ltd (BRCL) was
established
in
2009
in
Mullingar,
Co.
Westmeath, to develop an innovative assembly
system of joining rigid sheets of metal together,
called KLIXXN.
KLIXXN’s unique selling point is a method
whereby flat metal sheets simply click together
without the need for nuts, bolts, screws, rivets,
welding or assembly tools and are as easy to
dismantle as they are to assemble.
The initial KLIXXN product, currently being
developed, is the KLIXXN electrical/electronic
enclosure; however, the KLIXXN concept can be
applied to a multitude of end products. The
electrical enclosure market is estimated at €6bn
in Europe alone.
KLIXXN is a generation ahead of its
competitors. The technology enables speed and
simplicity of assembly and disassembly, flatpack
shipping
and
storage,
tailored
interchangeable components and materials,
excellent sealing options and an extremely
robust and aesthetically pleasing system. A
unique and wide range of KLIXXN accessories
allow for a fully integrated system, and with its
efficient
and
eco-friendly
low
cost
manufacturing, KLIXXN has had nothing but
positive feedback from industry experts across
the UK, Ireland and Europe.

Founded in 2012, NoviLED has designed and
put into production its own range of LED
lighting luminaire systems for sale to new build
and retrofit projects in Ireland, the UK and
northern Europe.
Despite the overall market for lighting having
decreased significantly over the last 5 years,
the LED segment is now growing rapidly due to
legislative pressures and an enhanced return on
investment profile due to falling prices as this
technology matures.
In response, NoviLED has developed new LEDbased lighting units to replace fluorescent
lighting assemblies in the ceilings of commercial
offices, retail spaces, industrial areas and
institutions. NoviLED’s products offer significant
performance, economic, energy savings and
carbon reduction advantages over fluorescent
products.
The company continues to add to its product
portfolio and has already completed projects
showing the extent to which its products exceed
the performance levels of traditional lighting
systems.

ODG Technologies Ltd was established in 2010
to supply portable radio accessories for sale to
the global public safety market.
The company’s first product is an active noisecancelling handset (speaker microphone) for
mobile radios.
ODG's primary market is first
responders — firefighters and police — in the
public safety industry, particularly in the US.
There are 480,000 handsets sold annually in the
US, which equates to a $33m market. That
does not include an installed base of 4.4 million
users, which offers a significant upgrade
market.
Active noise-cancelling speaker microphones
are new to the industry.

Sunengen has developed a significantly
improved ammonia absorption refrigeration
process. This enhanced process, called EARS™,
can be driven by a variety of thermal sources
and produces refrigeration output down to -18°,
with a CoP (coefficient of performance)
approaching 0.96, comfortably outperforming
traditional systems.
This performance breakthrough has been
achieved by combining process expertise with
technology from the petrochemical industry and
applying it to the traditional absorption
refrigeration process. This combination has
enabled the technology to operate a leaner
absorption system and thereby achieve a higher
ratio of converting heat into effective
refrigeration.
The process is undergoing patenting worldwide
and the European Patent Office recently
confirmed positive preliminary findings for the
patentability of all of Sunengen's refrigeration
process patent applications.
This technology uses surplus process heat to
generate refrigeration where cooling is required.
The company is now commencing the assembly
of a demonstration unit in Ireland in order to
showcase the technology to prospective
commercial users and licensors. Potential
customers already include those in mining,
power generation, petrochemical and shipping.

Delicious the Gluten Free Bakery (Delicious)
was established in 2008 by Denise O’Callaghan
after her father was diagnosed as coeliac and
she realised that there was a gap in the glutenfree market for a high-quality, tasty bread and
cake offering. It specialises in gluten-free
confectionary
catering
for
coeliacs
and
consumers suffering from food allergies.
Products include a range of premium gateaux,
single portion desserts and a Christmas range.
Gluten-free foods are no longer only for people
with coeliac disease, food allergies and food
intolerances. More and more people who want
to follow a healthier lifestyle are choosing to
eliminate gluten from their diets.
This is evident in recent consumer and retailer
trends, and satisfying the needs of this market
demographic (and their families) is becoming a
higher priority for the main retailers.
The company has built up a strong product
range and customer base and has outgrown its
current premises. It now plans to move to a
larger 7,500 square-foot facility in Little Island,
County Cork, which will enable it increase its
production capacity significantly. Funding is
required to facilitate this move, recruit key hires
and build its UK export business.

Cargo Defenders has developed a
new security system for curtain sided
trailers used by the logistics industry
to transport goods. The system is
designed to tackle the growing
problem of curtain slashing which is
the main method used in cargo theft
by thieves that is costing billions of
euro across Europe every year.
The security system’s smart sensors
monitors the trailer curtains to detect
any attempted tampering such as a
knife cut. The system also monitors
unauthorised opening of the back

Commutable
develop
software
systems
for
operators
in
the
transport industry, with a focus on
real-time passenger information and
journey planning systems.
Our real-time timetabling system is
used to keep track of a bus or coach
service, showing its position on a
map and its expected time of arrival
at each stop on its journey. The
system delivers a constantly updated
schedule of a vehicle’s movements,
and can be deployed for large bus
fleets, as well as for smaller
operators with a handful of routes.
We recently launched the coach
tracker service for National Express’
coach division in the UK. Our journey
planner can search across multiple
public and private transport networks
simultaneously, and quickly and
intuitively
calculate
the
fastest
journeys that a user can take to get
to their destination. These routes can
be tied in to ticket-booking engines
to allow for a seamless travelplanning experience. This product is
appropriate
for
cities,

and
large
transport
networks, and an example of the
planner for Dublin can be seen at

Emergence was founded in 2008 as
an environmental consultancy. As
our business grew, we looked for
tools to help us scale quickly. We
searched for a clever way to manage
the vast amounts of environmental
data that we were handling on behalf
of our clients.
Biome was immediately embraced by
our clients, looking for an easier and
better way to manage environmental
systems. Today, Biome serves the
software needs of environmental
professionals around the world, from
boutique consultancies to Fortune
500 companies.
We wanted well-designed software
that put the user first. We wanted a
service that treated environmental
accounting with the same diligence
and accuracy as financial accounting
practices.
Emergence is headquartered in a
Georgian office building in Dublin.
Everyday we work together to design
and develop the best products to
deliver environmental intelligence for
business.
We couldn't find such software. So
we decided to invest our own time,
energy and money into creating
software that provided a smarter
way for environmental professionals
to manage the environmental impact
of doing business — Biome was
born.

Equiniche
Sciences
Ltd
was
established to bring new and
innovative solutions based on sound
scientific principles and practical
knowledge to the global equine
sector. The first product is a novel
hay feeder, the Harmony Equine
Feeder, that mimics natural grazing
by feeding hay at ground level in a
controlled
manner.
It
will
be
launched this year with a particular
focus on the racehorse market.
Over 96% of racehorses in training
suffer from stomach ulcers caused by
a lack of availability of hay
throughout the entire day. Ulcers can
be managed naturally by providing
small amounts of hay all day/night
with this new feeder which only
needs to be filled once daily. This
represents a significant saving both
in terms of treatments for ulcers,
time spent feeding and hay wastage.
There is no comparable product on
the market. Patent and design
applications have been filed for the
product.
