5th Sunday of Easter
Jesus says, “As I have loved you, so you also should love one
another.”
When I share the same Body and Blood of Jesus with others
in my community, how does this re-enforce my connection
with them and my call to love them?
No one wants to be summarily dispatched or just sent away.
“Go. Move on.” It’s not a nice message. Strangely, it’s the last
message we get at Sunday Mass. In all the different forms, we
are told to go and to move on. “Go forth, the Mass is ended.
Go and announce the Gospel of the Lord. Go in peace, glorifying the Lord by your life. Go in peace.” Not only is that the
final message of the Mass, for us it’s also a welcomed message. We want to go and we need to move on and out. The
Dismissal at the end of Mass is critical. We are entrusted with
a mission and a high purpose. We are told to move to the
world from which we originally came. We have heard God’s
Word and shared in the self-sacrificing love of Jesus who has
been our Bread of Life. Now, we have a purpose and responsibility. Our mission is to bring and live out what we have celebrated in the Mass. So, we go not only in peace but with joy,
determination, and hope.

5. Niedziela Wielkanocna
Pan Jezus mówi: “Miłujcie się nawzajem, tak, jak ja was
umiłowałem.”
Kiedy dzielę się tym samym Ciałem i Krwią Jezusa z
innymi, w mojej wspólnocie (np. parafialnej), to w jaki
sposób pomaga mi to wzmacniać moją więź z bliźnimi i
wezwanie do miłości?
Nikt nie chce być pośpiesznie odprawiony
lub wysłany z krótką komendą. „Idź. No
dalej, ruszaj się. Czas już na ciebie.”
Zwykle taka wiadomość nie jest miłą dla naszych uszu. Dziwne, gdyż z podobną formą nakazu (tzw. rozesłanie), spotykamy się na końcu niedzielnej Mszy Świętej. W wielorakich
formach słownych, używanych w Eucharystii, istotny jest dla
nas wyłącznie jeden przekaz mówiący, abyśmy szli i dalej
podejmowali wyzwania kolejnych tapów naszego życia. „Pan
z wami. (. . .) Idźcie ofiara spełniona. Idźcie i głoście światu
Ewangelię, poprzez oddawanie chwały Bożej w codziennym
życiu. Idźcie, w pokoju Chrystusa.” Oprócz tego, że jest to
końcowa wiadomość Mszy Świętej, to dla nas, jest ona swego
typu zaproszeniem. Chcemy iść, potrzebujemy iść naprzód, a
dzięki temu wychodzić do świata i ludzi. Błogosławieństwo,
jako obrzęd rozesłania na zakończenie Mszy Świętej jest
koniecznym jej elementem. Wiąże się on z nałożeniem na nas
misji i wytyczenia wielkiego celu. Słyszymy, abyśmy wyszli
do świata, z którego oryginalnie przyszliśmy na Mszę Świętą.
Usłyszeliśmy Słowo Boże, wzięliśmy udział w Świętej Ofierze
Chrystusa – Ofierze Miłości Naszego Zbawiciela, który jest
naszym Chlebem Życia. Są to wytyczne do aszego celu w życiu i odpowiedzialności. Naszą misją jest przybliżanie i życie
tym, co uroczyście świętowaliśmy w Mszy Świętej. Stąd nie
tylko idziemy po Mszy Świętej „wpokoju”, ale także z radością, determinacją i nadzieją.

Parish Life
St. Thecla is the quintessential small parish and school with the greatest hearts! My appreciation to everyone who steps up to
make this a great parish. This coming Wednesday our second graders will receive their 1st Confession and on Saturday their First
Holy Communion. Please keep them in your prayers. Printed below are some of the lessons our second graders studied in preparation for the special day.
Mr. Rick Rodriguez a member of our Knights of Columbus is making a unique donation to the parish. He has designed a 12 foot
cross to be installed on the lawn on the Devon side of the church. The cross is currently being fabricated and the foundation was
dug this past Wednesday. More to come.
Know you are in my prayers first thing every morning; every day. God bless, Fr. Gene
Going to confession is just like going to Jesus as the child does in the picture, to tell Him you are sorry for your sins. Jesus is glad to have you come
to him. Through the priest he will forgive you of all your sins.
Before confession pray to the Holy Spirit to help you make a good honest
confession. Come Holy Spirit, give my mind your light to clearly know my
sins, touch my heart that I may be sorry for them and with your love and
forgiveness I can better my life. Amen.
Always make a visit to our Blessed Mother. Ask her to help you to be
good. Also ask the saints and your Guardian Angel to help you to be a
friend of Jesus.
With your family and with your friends make time to pray the rosary before
the crucifix. Or visit the church and pray before the tabernacle or the monstrance during adoration.
St. Thecla Women’s Council News
Every Wednesday during May we meet at 10 AM to pray the rosary with the residents of the Regency Nursing Home. Men and women are invited to help out. If you can offer about an hour of your time on these mornings, please consider volunteering. For more information call Rita at (773) 792-2189.

Mother/Daughter Brunch follows the Mass at 11:00am
All women of the parish, especially mothers and their daughters and grandmothers are cordially invited to the 10
AM Mass. Then come to an enjoyable light brunch in Moriarty Hall. This event has been growing in popularity
each May, so please plan on joining us this year. In order to accommodate everyone, please call Maribeth at

Religious Education
Registration for the 2013-2014 year will be taking place in May. Registration forms are being sent to those families currently in
the program. We ask that they be returned in May so that we can plan for the coming year. If you have a child who has not previously been in religious education at Saint Thecla, please contact the parish office for information and registration forms. A
copy of the Baptismal certificate is required for all new students. We are also in need of people willing to serve as catechists and
aides for the coming year. We ask you to consider becoming involved in this very important ministry. Without volunteers this
program would not exist. Training and materials will be provided. Contact the Parish Office if you’re interested.

Friends for a Cure Mother’s Day Walk
We are a group of friends & family that have banded together to raise money for breast cancer programs. This year our fundraising efforts will benefit Advocate Lutheran General's Caldwell Breast Center in
Park Ridge, IL. You are invited to join us for a 3-mile walk/run on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 12th 2013,
as we walk through the Norwood Park neighborhood. We will start and finish our walk/run at St. Thecla’s
Parish Hall beginning at 9 a.m. Everyone is welcome.
Registration is $25.00 in advance or $30.00 on the day of the Walk. Children under 12 are free.

From a eulogy for Saint Fidelis of Sigmaringen,
priest and martyr
Faithful in name and in truth
Pope Benedict 14th praised Fidelis as a confessor of the
Catholic faith in these words: “He practiced the fullness of
charity in bringing consolation and relief to his neighbors as
well as strangers. With a father’s love he embraced all those
who were in trouble. He supported great numbers of poor
people with the alms he had collected from every quarter.
“With wealth collected from the powerful and from princes,
he comforted widows and orphans in their loneliness. He was
always helping prisoners in their spiritual and bodily needs.
He showed constant zeal in
visiting and comforting the
sick whom he would win back
to God and prepare for their
last struggle.
“The most outstanding example of this meritorious way of
life occurred when the Austrian army, stationed in the
area of Raetia, was almost
totally destroyed by an epidemic. To show compassion
he used to bring food for the
weak and the dying.”
In addition to this charity, he
was faithful in truth as well as
in name. (Fidelis means one
who is faithful.) His zeal for
defending the Catholic faith
was unsurpassed and he
preached it tirelessly. A few days before he shed his blood to
bear witness to his preaching, he gave his last sermon. These
are the words he left as a testament: “O Catholic faith, how
solid, how strong you are! How deeply rooted, how firmly
founded on a solid rock! Heaven and earth will pass away,
but you can never pass away. From the beginning the whole
world opposed you, but you mightily triumphed over everything. This is the victory that overcomes the world, our faith.
It has subjected powerful kings to the rule of Christ; it has
bound nations to his service.
“What made the holy apostles and martyrs endure fierce
agony and bitter torments, except faith, and especially faith in
the resurrection?
“What is it that today makes true followers of Christ cast
luxuries aside, leave pleasures behind, and endure difficulties
and pain? It is living faith that expresses itself through love.
It is this that makes us put aside the goods of the present in
the hope of future goods. It is because of faith that we exchange the present for the future.”

Baptisms:
How to Become a Catholic:
1:00 p.m. on the First and Third Sunday of the month, (in
English), Second and Fourth Sunday of the month (in Polish)
Baptismal Prep Class:
Will be confirmed at time of Registration of the Baptism.
Please contact the Parish Office to arrange a Baptism.
Marriages:
The Pastoral Guidelines for Marriage
Preparation for the Archdiocese of Chicago ask that a minimum
of 4 months be set aside for personal preparation for marriage.
Couples should refrain from setting a firm date or making any
other arrangements until after they have met with a parish priest
or deacon to discuss marriage plans. Please note that Weddings
do not take place during Lent.
Adults or teenagers interested in receiving the Sacraments of
Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, or Eucharist) or those who
are interested in the Catholic Faith should call the Parish Office
for more information about the R.C.I.A. (Rite of Christian
Initiation for Adults).
Homebound/Communion Visitations:
St. Thecla Church has several ministers of care who can
regularly take communion to those in need. Please call the
Parish Office to arrange for communion for yourself or
a homebound loved one.

Our School
In recognition of Childhood Abuse Prevention month, students and teachers planted pinwheels along Devon Avenue after Mass on
Tuesday. The pinwheel is the national symbol for Child Safety and represents the hope and promise that every child be raised in a
healthy, safe, and nurturing environment. Also our students collected can tops for Ronald McDonald House. This will net approximately $500 for this foundation!
