Welcome to the very first LondonRL Event Guide, featuring information on
events in the Rugby League Calendar in London and the South East.
LondonRL, affiliated to the Rugby Football League, is the administrative body
for the sport of Rugby League in the region. We are also responsible, alongside
Harlequins RL, Skolars RL and South London Community RL, for the delivery of
an abundance of development programs that take place throughout the region,
taking ‘the Greatest Game’ into schools & communities across the south of
England.
This season promises to be an exciting one, with the very first ‘LondonRL
Double Header’ on the 12th June as well as our continuing association with
the City of London, through the ‘Capital Challenge’ and the ETF Securities
sponsored ‘Corporate City Touch Tournament’ at the HAC. Throw into the mix
a visit of the NRL Champions, Melbourne Storm, to the Stoop, ‘Friday Night
Lights’ at Whitehart Lane Community Sports Centre and a variety of excellent
Community and Junior RL events and it all adds up to a busy picture. And that’s
before we mention the Carnegie Challenge Cup Final on the 28th August!
We’d like to take this opportunity to ask you to visit our website at
www.londonrl.com and have a look around. The ‘contacts’ section will point
you in the direction of your local community clubs and over the course of the
season, we’ll be running various competitions for VIP tickets, so make sure that
you register for our monthly newsletter.
On top of this, if you have any questions about Rugby League in the region,
whether you’re looking to attend some local events, wanting to sponsor any of
our clubs or competitions, or wanting to join our ‘Friends of LondonRL Lottery’
then please don’t hesitate to get in touch, we’d be delighted to hear from you.
Yours in Sport,
The team at LondonRL

ETFS Capital Challenge
HAC Artillery Ground, London, EC1Y 2BO
Harlequins’ preparations for 2010 get into full swing with a match against
Engage Super League rivals, Crusaders RL. The match will also celebrate the
career of Jon Wells - one of only a handful of players to have competed in all
15 years of Super League – and proceeds will go to the Jon Wells Testimonial
Fund.
This yearly event sees London’s two professional Rugby League clubs go head to
head at the esteemed HAC Artillery Ground in the heart of the City of London.
In an exciting move, the match will be played at Rosslyn Park FC and forms a
cross-code Rugby double header, with fans able to see Rosslyn Park tackle
local rivals Richmond FC before the two Engage Super League sides clash.
Harlequins RL and Skolars RL will be expected to field strong sides including new
star signings and international players as the teams prepare for their forthcoming
seasons.
Don’t miss this unique celebration of Rugby League in London and book your
tickets in advance to support Jon. £10 adults, £5 under 16’s call 0871 527

pioneering a dual-registration system to allow them to mutually benefit from the
capital’s best talent. However, this will be put to one side when they take to the
pitch.

clubs, providing the Capital’s Rugby League fraternity reason to get out and
support their club.
The presentation of the Bob Evans memorial trophy, for services to LondonRL,
will be presented at half time during the Co-operative Championship 1 game
between Skolars RL and Swinton Lions.

together all of London and the South East’s community and amateur fixtures.
The 2009 Junior League Grand Finals day was hailed as a huge success as near
on 1000 people flooded through the gates of Staines RFC to witness a great
spectacle of junior Rugby League.
After the completion of the community fixtures at various venues in the region,
Skolars RL will kick off proceedings with their Co-operative Championship 1
fixture against York City Knights at 2.30pm, before Harlequins RL play their
Engage Super League fixture against reigning champions Leeds Rhinos at

RL game, can watch England’s World Cup group game against the USA on big
screens in the bars.
With snippets of the competition shown at prime time on Sky Sports Boots ‘n’
All, many in the Rugby League fraternity recognized the great strides that the
community game has taken in London and the South and we expect 2010 to be
no different.
