Join us September 16-18, South Florida Region 16 Page 3 Feature Story: Olympus University Training Course a Grand Success Many thanks to the Memorial Hospital West Endoscopy team for initiating and promoting the recent collaboration with our Olympus Endoscopy Specialists. On May 26th a Reprocessing Training course was held at the Renaissance Hotel in Ft Lauderdale Florida. Among those in attendance where nurses and GI Techs from the Virgin Islands, Atlanta, Jacksonville and Tampa just to name a few. South Florida Region 16 attendees included Holy Cross, Broward General and the entire Endoscopy team from MHW Magnet Hospital. The learning objectives included review of endoscope construction, reprocessing standards and resources, reprocessing order as supported by the SGNA, proper handling and storage, common reprcessing errors, repair reduction and prevention of cross-contamination in endoscope processing. The interactive jeopardy style of audience participation was fantastic. There was plenty of question and answer time as well as break out stations for reprocessing. I must say there was a wealth of new information that was learned in each category as well as networking with other hospital attendees. Olympus Endoscopy Training Specialists included representation from every region in Florida as well as Randell Orner the Senior Manager of Endoscopy Support Services. Thanks to our very own James Fiorito you taught us so much! We are very fortunate to have a company like Olympus that encourages and supports its customers with knowledgeable specialists, and training courses. Please let your managers know about the New Flexible Endoscope Reprocessor (CFER) Exam. The exam is administered by the Certification Board for Sterile Processing & Distribution, Inc- an independent certification board formed to plan, develop, administer and evaluate a program on an international level. The mission is to promote and encourage high standards of ethical and professional practice through a recognized, credible credentialing program. Through the support of Olympus this certification was made possible. Be on the look out as our digest will provide more detailed information on this very important certification .
