Dear Friends,
Years ago, Larry, an old municipal lamplighter, engaged in putting out the lights one by one, was met by a reporter
who asked him if he ever grew tired of his work in the cold dark night. “Never am I cheerless,” said the old
man, “for there is always a light ahead of me to lead me on.” “But what do you have to cheer you up when you
have put out the last light?” asked the news writer. “Then comes the dawn,” said Larry, the lamplighter.
Today is Easter Sunday; the beginning of a new dawn for the world after the gloomy Good Friday. The
Resurrection of Jesus is the greatest of all miracles – it proves that Jesus Christ is truly God. It is the feast of joy.
It is the feast of Jesus' victory over sin and death. It is the basis of our Christian faith; i.e. all the basic doctrines of
Christianity are founded on the truth of His Resurrection. Therefore, those who challenge Christianity challenge
the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. The Resurrection of Jesus is not a story, it is a historical reality. Why do
we say that?
The first evidence for the Resurrection of the Lord Jesus is the empty tomb. The new tomb in which Jesus was
buried was found empty. It was a new tomb; hence there was no mix up of bodies. Secondly, women being the
first witnesses of the Resurrection of the Lord Jesus. Despite their differences in details, all gospel narratives are
agreed upon the fact that women were the first witnesses of the Resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And thirdly
pointer is the transformation of the disciples. The Resurrection of Jesus threw a totally different light on the
passion and death of Jesus. It led the disciples to a very different understanding of what at first seemed tragedy,
disaster and failure. The disciples, who were at first paralyzed with fear of being arrested as accomplices of
Jesus, suddenly made a complete turnaround and became evangelizers.
Easter is not only concerned with recalling the Resurrection of the Lord Jesus or its impact on the first disciples.
Easter calls us for a radical conversion and a change of our hearts. We are also called to
joyfully proclaim and witness our faith in the Risen Lord among us. For the true disciple of Jesus there is a close
and indivisible relationship between experiencing and proclaiming which fills him/her with the joy of the Risen
Master and Lord, and that he/she simply must share that joy with others.

Hace años, Lorenzo, un viejo farolero municipal, dedicado a apagar sus luces uno por uno, fue recibido por un
periodista que le preguntó si él está cansado de su trabajo en la fría noche oscura. "Nunca estoy triste," dijo el
anciano, "porque siempre hay una luz delante de mí para guiarme." "¿Pero a quien tienes que levante el ánimo
cuando has apagado la última luz?" preguntó el escritor de noticias. "Luego viene el amanecer," dijo Lorenzo, el
farolero.
Hoy es Pascua; el comienzo de un nuevo amanecer para el mundo después del Viernes Santo triste. La
resurrección de Jesús es el más grande de todos los milagros – demuestra que Jesucristo es verdaderamente
Dios. Es la fiesta de la alegría. Es la fiesta de la victoria de Jesús sobre el pecado y la muerte. Es la base de
nuestra fe cristiana; es decir, todas las doctrinas básicas del cristianismo se basan en la verdad. Por lo tanto,
aquellos que desafían el cristianismo desafían la resurrección de nuestro Señor Jesucristo. La resurrección de
Jesús no es un cuento, es una realidad histórica. ¿Por qué decimos esto?
El primer punto de la resurrección del Señor Jesús es la tumba vacía. La nueva tumba en la que Jesús fue
sepultado la encontraron vacía. Era una nueva tumba; por lo tanto no hubo ninguna mezcla de cuerpos. El
segundo punto es las mujeres son las primeras testigos de la resurrección del Señor Jesús. A pesar de sus
diferencias en los detalles, todas las narraciones del Evangelio están de acuerdo sobre el hecho de que las
mujeres eran las primeras testigos de la resurrección del Señor Jesús. Y el tercer punto es la transformación de
los discípulos. La resurrección de Jesús lanzó una luz diferente sobre la pasión y muerte de Jesús. Llevo a los
discípulos a una comprensión muy diferente de lo que al principio parecía tragedia, desastre y fracaso. Los
discípulos, que al principio quedaron paralizados por el miedo a ser arrestados como cómplices de Jesús, de
pronto hicieron un cambio radical y se convirtieron en evangelizadores.
La Pascua no sólo ocupa el recuerdo la resurrección del señor Jesús o su impacto sobre los primeros discípulos.
La Pascua nos llama para una conversión radical y un cambio de nuestros corazones. También estamos
llamados a proclamar con alegría y testimonio de nuestra fe en el Señor resucitado entre nosotros. Para el
verdadero discípulo de Jesús, hay una relación cercana e indivisible entre experimentando y proclamando que
llena de la alegría del Maestro resucitado y Señor, y que él/ella simplemente debe compartir esta alegría con los
demás.

Divine Mercy Sunday
What a great day it was. The Parish Lenten Cleaning
project went extremely well. It was great to see our
parishioners, from three years old to senior age, come
together to beautify our church. All came with the same
spirit and commitment. All were there with a sense of
ownership and in the spirit of stewardship. I sincerely
appreciate each one of you for your participation and
support, and especially Johanna and her team to lead
this effort from the forefront.

John Paul II proclaimed to the
world that “from now on
throughout the Church” this
Sunday will be called “Divine
Mercy Sunday.” Next weekend,
April 11/12, we will celebrate!

CHURCH'S TEACHING ON THE FAMILY
Even in the early Christian community the family appeared as the “domestic church” (cf. CCC,
1655; Eph 5:21-6:9; Col 3:18-4:1; 1 Timothy 2:8-15; Titus 2:1-10; 1 Peter 2:13-3:7).The Letter to the
Ephesians recognized the nuptial love between man and woman as “the great mystery”, making
present in the world the love of Christ and the Church (cf. Eph 5:31-32 ).
One of the Church’s highest expressions has been proposed by the Second Vatican Council in the Pastoral
Constitution Gaudium et spes: “The family, in which the various generations come together and help one another grow wiser
and harmonize personal rights with the other requirements of social life, is the very foundation of society” (GS, 52).
Particularly striking is its appeal for a Christ-centered spirituality in the spouses’ life of faith: "Let the spouses themselves,
made to the image of the living God and enjoying the authentic dignity of persons, be joined to one another in equal affection,
harmony of mind and the work of mutual sanctification. Thus, following Christ who is the principle of life, by the sacrifices and
joys of their vocation and through their faithful love, married people can become witnesses of the mystery of love which the
Lord revealed to the world by his dying and his rising up to life again”(GS, 52 ).
In his Apostolic Exhortation Familiaris consortio, Pope John Paul II insisted on proposing the divine plan in the basic truths of
married love and the family: The institution of marriage is not an undue interference by society or authority, nor the extrinsic
imposition of a form. Rather it is an interior requirement of the covenant of conjugal love which is publicly affirmed as unique
and exclusive, in order to live in complete fidelity to the plan of God, the Creator (FC, 11).
The Catechism of the Catholic Church gathers together the fundamental aspects of this teaching: “The marriage covenant, by
which a man and a woman form with each other an intimate communion of life and love, has been founded and endowed
with its own special laws by the Creator. By its very nature it is ordered to the good of the couple, as well as to the generation
and education of children. Christ the Lord raised marriage between the baptized to the dignity of a sacrament [cf. Second
Vatican Ecumenical Council, Gaudium et spes, 48; Code of Canon Law, 1055, 1]”(CCC 1660).
The recent encyclical of Pope Francis, Lumen fidei, speaks of the family in the context of a reflection on how faith reveals
“Just how firm the bonds between people can be when God is present in their midst” (LF, 50). “The first setting in which faith
enlightens the human city is the family. Promising love for ever is possible when we perceive a plan bigger than our own ideas
and undertakings, a plan which sustains us and enables us to surrender our future entirely to the one we love” (LF, 52)

Celebrate With Us Every Sunday
Holy Trinity Church welcomes you to our Easter
Celebration. Easter is an invitation for a new beginning
with the Risen Lord, who defeated death and sin in all
its forms. We begin this new life by constantly
participating in the paschal event (the passion, death
and Resurrection of Jesus) that we celebrate in the
Eucharist. Sunday worship is so important for the
following reasons:
We desire to respond to God’s love
In the Eucharist we experience the self-giving love of
Jesus. Therefore, the Mass is the best place to thank
God for the gift of Himself, life, family, friends, faith and
love.
We desire to encounter Christ in the most profound way
possible
The Eucharist is not just something symbolic. Jesus
said: “I am the living bread that came down from
heaven; if any one eats of this bread, he will live forever;
. . . he who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has
eternal life and . . . abides in me, and I in him.” We
encounter Christ in the Eucharist.
We desire to gather and pray with our parish family
The celebration of Mass, like life, has vertical and
horizontal dimensions. Our presence to each other is a
symbol of our solidarity and unity with God and with
each other. It is the fullest expression of our Christian
identity.
We desire to witness to our faith and provide a living
legacy to our children and grandchildren
We form our young people by the way we participate in
the Mass. Children who see that their parents get to
Church early to pray before Mass will want to imitate
them.
We desire a foretaste of Heaven
“Every time we celebrate the Eucharist,” Blessed John
Paul II preached in 2004, “we participate in the Lord’s
Supper which gives us a foretaste of the heavenly glory.”
We abide by His Commands
Keep the Sabbath Holy is the Third Commandment.
Observing the Day of Sabbath holy, we are expressing our
surrender to God’s will.

Receive 100% Acceptance to
First Choice Catholic High Schools
Bishop Montgomery High School
Twenty-one students applied to and were accepted at
Bishop Montgomery High School; eight in Honors
English, three in Honors Algebra, two in Geometry, and
two in Honors Geometry.
Michael Salcido achieved one of the top five scores on
the Placement Exam and receives a $2000 per year
scholarship for all four years.
St. Joseph’s High School
Two students applied and were accepted.
Kennedy Magaña received Recognition at Entrance
and Honors English.
Aileen Keane is accepted with Honors at Entrance and
has received the Mother Saint John Fontbonne
Scholarship of $3,000, renewable for all four years.
She is also a Merit Scholar, having scored in the Top

Scripture Focus:
“Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I
send you.” Imagine what those words must have meant
to Jesus’ disciples in their discouragement and fear
after the events of Holy Week. There they were locked
behind closed doors-frightened, anxious, unsure of the
future. What was going to happen to them without
Jesus’ presence among them? Haven’t we felt the
same at times? Aren’t there many in our
neighborhoods who feel the same? And into that
locked place comes Jesus with a message of love and
hope and reassurance and the promise of a new kind
of presence. “As the Father sent me, so I send you.”
We are Christ’s presence in our world over 2000 years
later. We are called to love and serve one another as
Jesus did: to shelter the homeless, feed the hungry,
comfort the sorrowing, release the “prisoners” of drugs,
poverty...until, like the early Christians (Acts 4:33),
“there is not a needy person among us.” What a
privilege and what a challenge! But we have the
assurance “Blessed are those who have not seen but
still believe.”
Reflection:
1. Remember a time when you felt “locked in” by fear,
anxiety, uncertainty. Who/What helped release
you?
2. “Christ has no body now but yours.” Who needs
your loving service at this time? Who else?
3. When have you experienced “not seeing” or “not
believing” the presence of Christ in another?
