Universidad San Ignacio de Loyola (USIL) has designed a special Spanish program for university students from
all over the world. Spanish has become one of the most important languages, and many international students
are studying at USIL to learn this important international language.
LA CASA DON IGNACIO CUSCO
The program lasts between 4 and 5 weeks and it is held either in Lima, on the main campus, or in Cusco, the
city of the Incas, at its International Extension Center. The program includes cultural activities, such as visits to
museums and city tours. USIL o¬ffers university credit and a Spanish certificate from our Language Department.
For the purpose of making your stay in our
country pleasant, USIL provides housing La
Casa de Don Ignacio in Lima’s Miraflores
district. This student residence has comfortable
rooms (single and double), a TV room with
cable service, Internet service and rooms for

Universidad San Ignacio de Loyola (USIL) works with more than 90 universities through exchange
programs, work/study programs, international programs in Peru, etc. We have 24 academic
programs which are taught on our Lima Campus. Because full command of a second language
is a must, USIL students are able to choose between courses in Spanish and English (double
curriculum). Students may enroll in any course from our 24 academic programs.
COURSE DESCRIPTION
INCA ARCHITECTURE:
This amazing course develops student
knowledge of, as well as their interest in,
the concepts, techniques and architectonic
and urban management of Andean society
represented by the Inca Culture.
Taught in English or Spanish.

ART & DESIGN IN CUSCO:
The course is aimed of critical analysis of the
history of Cusco´s art from a visual perspective,
creating new spaces for reflection. Artistic
expressions from the different periods of its
cultural development are studied and interpreted.

SPANISH (Basic, Intermediate,
and Advanced):
This course enables students to develop
communication skills in order to express ideas
and understand everyday needs. What a great
opportunity to speak Spanish in a real context!

PROGRAM
Universidad San Ignacio de Loyola (USIL) is one of the few universities in Peru with an international program at
the university level. USIL has a customized program held in Cusco, the Inca city, with a cultural focus and Spanish
classes. The program is intended to off¬er students’ broad knowledge of the culture and history of the region
that is home to South America’s best-known landmark that is now one of the New Seven Wonders of the World,
the Inca ruins of Machu Picchu. International students will be able to transfer university credits throughout
these courses and have an unforgettable experience in the most famous city in South America.

fully equipped Wi-Fi, a computer room, a kitchen, a TV room, a library, and more.

which lasts 5 to 6 weeks. This is a wonderful opportunity to study and live in the most important landmark city in

HISTORY OF
THE INCA CIVILIZATION:
This course provides knowledge and
information on the prehistoric of civilizations
of the Central Andean Region, with critical and
updated opinions on the historical periods
covered and the great Inca civilization. Benefit
from studying the Inca culture in the most
appropriate city and complement your studies
by visiting the ruins around Cusco! You can
see archaeological ruins near the city and visit
Machu Picchu to gain a better understanding
of what you are being taught.

CONTEMPORARY SOCIETY
AND CULTURE OF PERU:
For those looking for accommodations, USIL offers its student residence,
Casa Don Ignacio (www.casadedonignacio.com), which is conveniently
located and has all the facilities international students need, such as Wi-Fi
or laundry.
Peruvian society has undergone a series of
historical transformations enriched by Andean,
Occidental and Amazonian traditions. These
transformations will be addressed from a
historical, anthropological, and sociological
perspective. Cusco is the best meeting point
to discover and understand the changes the
country is undergoing.

improve their language skills, and learn about the culture. Classes may
be taken in Spanish or English, from March through July and from August
through December.
BIODIVERSITY OF PERU:
Because Peru has mega biodiversity which
places it among the top 12 biodiverse countries
in the world, this theoretical course will mainly
focus on developing skills to analyze and value
the components of biodiversity, identifying its
potential and acquiring the tools to make its
sustainable use and conservation possible. Take
time to visit the National Reserve of Manu to see
what your teacher means by biodiversity!

LATIN AMERICAN LITERATURE:
This theoretical/practical course develops
students´ skills for critical reading of and value
Latin American literature, through detailed
analysis of poetry and novels. This course is
geared toward students who have an advanced
level of Spanish. Enjoy reading the best Latin
American novels and authors, and improve your
Spanish by reading the most interesting stories
in our language.

PHOTOGRAPHY:
While in Cusco, you will surely take hundreds of
photographs. In order to take the best shots,
student will learn about the photographic
production process, including the study of
visual treatment, lighting and mastery of
digital photography.
