Wow. That’s all I can say: “Wow!” Our Kokanee community raised over THIRTY THOUSAND DOLLARS during our Fall fundraiser, the Fun Run! While we have held fun runs in years past, this is the first time we cut out the middle man and tried to manage the whole thing ourselves…and boy, did we ever! It’s the most money we’ve ever raised and when you consider that we’re not paying thousands of dollars to a third party, we are sitting pretty! We can’t give out enough thank yous to the dozens of volunteers who helped with everything from waving pompoms at the kick off assembly to late nights of sorting those cute t-shirts every student received to counting pennies when the donation envelopes were turned in. But mostly, I must recognize Sara So, our new PTA Vice President, who said last spring she would take figure out where they want that to go…I can’t wait to see how they decide to spend the over $5,200 that they have! this on (despite having a full time job AND a baby)! She held meetings over the summer, rounded up our sponsors and pursued and sorted out all the details that it takes to put on an event like this. (Like the two Snohomish County fire trucks that were there to encourage the 700+ students and teachers who ran!) She also came up with the idea of starting a Kid Pick Fund: all money raised over $25,000 would go to this fund and the STUDENTS get to The theme of this Fun Run was “We’re All In!” to reflect the parent, staff, student and community support that surrounds our school. Your membership in the PTA is part of what keeps our community strong and continues to bring events like the Fun Run, the Craft Fair, Bingo Night, Carnival and many more to Kokanee. If you haven’t joined already, please do so – a family membership is only $25 ($30 if you want the Directory) and we’re shooting for 100% membership this year. It’s one more way to keep on top of the happenings here at Kokanee and show the kids that you, too, are all in for Kokanee! — Tracy Miller, PTA President Community Support for our Kokanee Kids These seven companies were our Gold Level sponsors for the Kokanee Fun Run. It speaks volumes when businesses step up to support our community. Please show your appreciation and give them your business! Additionally, we’d like to thank our Silver Sponsors: Fey & Grey Orthodontics * Purple Café and Wine Bar * Bothell Gymnastics Club and our Bronze Sponsors: Kirkland Land Care * Brooks * Edward Jones. Kim Nunes, Editor Once again, Kokanee is partnering with orthodontist Dr. Michelle Neal’s office to buy back your candy! After Halloween, her office will give each student $1 per pound of candy they turn in AND $1 per pound to the PTA! The classroom with the most pounds donated will receive a pizza party. More information will come home soon! The PTA has made volunteering around school super easy! If you would like to hear about jobs as they come up, please go to the volunteers page on our website (www.KokaneePTA.com) and put your name on any list that interests you. When we have jobs, we will email specifics to everyone that signed up for the list and you can sign up if your schedule allows. There is a general list if you want to hear about everything, but some are specific (like errand runners, or food prep team). There is no obligation to volunteer, and you can remove yourself from the list anytime you change your mind. Look for the opt-out forms coming home in the next week for our All Student Directory! If you haven’t already purchased a Directory, you can use this form to order one for $15 — or, save some money and become a PTA Member and get the Directory for only $5 (go to www.KokaneePTA.com to join)! Directories will be distributed by winter break in December. Kokanee Calendar Kokanee’s Holiday Craft Fair Saturday, November 15 9am-4pm Crafters Wanted! We still have booths available!
