THE HOSTE’S REMEMBER NELSON EXHIBITION
Fascinating exhibition telling the story of both Nelson
and his local Norfolk protégé, Sir William Hoste.
NELSON MUSEUM Explore Nelson’s childhood
in Norfolk, his career, famous battles and tragic,
heroic death. Find out about his mesmerising
personality and discover life below decks!
BURNHAM THORPE This village near the Norfolk
coast is famously the birthplace of Lord Nelson.
THE BRITANNIA MONUMENT This column was
built to honour Lord Nelson and is inscribed with
the motto from Nelson’s coat of arms ‘Palmam
Qui Meruit Ferat’ (translates to ‘Let him who has
merited it take the palm’).

STATUE OF NELSON You’ll find a statue of
Nelson within the grounds of Norwich Cathedral,
near the school he attended.

fun street theatre.
ALL SAINTS CHURCH Wood donated from the
HMS Victory is used within the lectern and altar.
A bust of Nelson and the tombs of his parents
are in the chancel.
COASTAL PATH This path closely follows the
coastline between Hunstanton and Cromer. The
route lies entirely within the Norfolk Coast Area
of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
BARTON BROAD Lord Nelson learned to sail on
Barton Broad in the Norfolk Broads. Today it is
under the care of the Norfolk Wildlife Trust and is
home to Otters, Kingfishers and Herons.

Admiral Lord Nelson was known to
have visited The Hoste to receive his
dispatches during his period ‘on the
beach’ from 1788 to 1793.
The Hoste is home to the Remember
Nelson Exhibition, featuring letters written
by Horatio Nelson and his protégé Sir
Captain William Hoste, together with
prints and displays including an original
life mask of Lord Nelson cast in 1800.
