know which drugs and procedures are the most
effective for treating different forms of cancer at
different stages. Your team will be available to answer
all questions and concerns that you may have about
your diagnosis. They also have a variety of educational
resources and support services to help you better
cope with your disease.
Radiation Oncology
Doctors Hospital at Renaissance - Cancer Center
is equipped with highly advanced radiation therapy
equipment. Services provided by Doctors Hospital
at Renaissance - Cancer Center include Intensity
Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), Image Guided
Radiation Therapy (IGRT), Stereotactic Radiosurgery
(SRS), Mammosite Radiation Therapy, and High Dose
Rate Brachytherapy (HDR).
High-Dose Rate Brachytherapy or HDR is a form of
“internal” or “local” cancer treatment that places the
radiation at the source of the tumor. HDR treatments
are typically given over a few days as compared to a
few weeks. HDR typically has fewer side effects due
to the close proximity of the radiation source to the
tumor site.
MammoSite Radiation Therapy is a form of HDR
treatment. It is used for patients who have been
diagnosed with breast cancer. Patients who have
had a lumpectomy could possibly be a candidate for
MammoSite HDR treatments.
Some advantages of MammoSite are:
» MammoSite places the radiation source inside the
lumpectomy cavity (the space left when a tumor
is removed). This delivers radiation to the area
where cancer is most likely to recur.
» Clinical trials for the MammoSite Radiation
Therapy System have shown it to be very well
tolerated, with mild side-effects for a short period
of time.
» The therapy is given on an outpatient basis. No
hospital stay is required.
» 83.3% of the patients had good/excellent cosmetic
results. All patients in the initial clinical trial would
recommend MammoSite to a friend or family
member.
Stereotatic Radiosurgery is the very precise delivery
of radiation to a brain tumor while sparing the
surrounding normal brain tissue.
Varian Medical Systems Linear Accelerator
Varian Medical Systems Trilogy medical linear
accelerator is one of the most versatile machines
available with the capability of offering all standard
radiation therapies as well as the most advanced
treatments that make it possible to concentrate more
dose on tumors while protecting surrounding healthy
tissue. It is expected to help doctors improve cure
rates for patients while reducing treatment
complications.
Urologic Oncology / Robotic Surgery
Our urologic oncologist is dedicated to providing you
with the best care close to home while focusing on
your individual needs. The urologic oncologist will
diagnose your disease while using latest technology
to treat prostate, kidney, bladder and testicular cancer.
Our urologic oncologist has performed several
hundred robotic surgeries in all areas of urologic
oncology, therefore ensuring you the best outcome.
Gynecologic Oncology
Doctors Hospital at Renaissance - Cancer Center
is the only cancer center in the valley to offer
Gynecologic Oncology services close to home. Our
gynecologic oncologist has demonstrated expertise
and experience in diagnosing and treating various
gynecologic cancers. The Gynecologic Oncology
Program is dedicated to treating all types of
gynecologic cancers. Our team approach treatment
options include minimally invasive (laparoscopic)
surgery, robotic surgery, radiation therapy
and chemotheraphy.
