Gymboree Play & Music center opens in Mechanicsburg
Gymboree Play & Music, an early childhood development and play center, recently hosted an open house and celebrated its grand opening with
a ribbon cutting ceremony with the Mechanicsburg Chamber of Commerce.
Founded in 1976 by a California mother looking for age-appropriate activities for young children along with their parents, Gymboree offers just
that and more. Now with over 550 locations worldwide, each center features developmental classes and playtime activities for children ages 0-5.
The classes, broken into 6 levels by age group, have curriculum developed by experienced child development program directors. “We continue
to focus on the whole child in order to help children acquire the key ingredients: motor skills, social skills and self-esteem,” explained co-owner
Kelli Knisely. “A child’s brain is the most active in the first three years, in which time
it grows to 80 percent of its adult size,” added co-owner Alexis Reachard. “It’s essential that parents and caregivers nurture a child’s development during this time.
Our learning program is an important component to support this development.”
While the center is brand new to Mechanicsburg, Knisely and Reachard aren’t new
to Gymboree. Prior to Mechanicsburg, they owned the business in York County.
“We’re thrilled to be a part of the Mechanicsburg community and are excited about
the move,” said Knisely.
Gymboree also has a School Skills program, preparing preschoolers for kindergarten, and a sports program, where children can sample and learn the basics of 8
different sports, for children 3 to 5 years of age. All of Gymboree's programs also
offer open play time for children birth to 5 years of age to explore and have fun.
The center is currently accepting enrollments. For more information on the center
and its classes, visit www.gymboreeclasses.com or call 717-600-8006.
PHOTO: Owners Kelli Knisely and Alexis Reachard cut the ribbon with Mechanicsburg Chamber of Commerce Executive Director, Jeff Palm. Also
pictured are Gymboree staff members Deena Du and Krista Reitnour, Chamber Board President James Hockenberry, Chamber Board VP Michael
Giordano, Roundtop Mountain Resort Director of Sales Josh Boltz, and several members of the community.
FLU SEASON IS HERE, GET VACCINATED NOW
Fast track flu shots available at Patient First
Harrisburg, PA – Flu season is here. Protect yourself and your family by being vaccinated now. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
urge everyone over the age of 6 months to get vaccinated for the flu. It is the best way to avoid the bug. You can get a seasonal flu shot with
little or no wait with the Patient First Fast Track Anytime Flu Shot Program.
Flu is contracted by inhaling respiratory droplets produced by coughing or sneezing. You can also become infected by touching an object contaminated by the flu virus (possible from a hand that covered a sneeze) and then touching your mouth, nose or eyes. Flu symptoms include a
high fever, dry cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, headache, extreme fatigue, muscles aches and shortness of breath.
The Patient First Fast Track Anytime Flu Shot Program features:
•
•
•
•
8 am to 10 pm every day at all Patient First medical centers – walk in anytime.
Fast Track Flu shots are for patients who are not allergic to eggs, who do not wish to see a physician, and who are at least 4 years old.
If your insurance covers flu shots at Patient First, pay only the copay (which is often $0) or $35, whichever is less.
Self-pay flu shot cost is $35
Downtown Mechanicsburg Honors Community-Minded Businessman
Earnie Zimmerman with 2015 Tribute Dinner
The Downtown Mechanicsburg Partnership will honor Earnie Zimmerman—owner of Zimmerman Heating, Plumbing
and Air Conditioning in Mechanicsburg—as their Person of the Year at the annual tribute dinner to be held Wednesday, October 21.
Born and raised in Mechanicsburg, Zimmerman has seen the business grow from one employee in 1980 to over
40 employees at this downtown location along E. Allen Street. Focused on prompt, reliable and friendly service that
exceeds customer expectations, Partnership President Sue Erdman adds that Zimmerman was chosen not only for
his business acumen and success but also for what he provides to the community “after hours.” Whether it’s donating 500 turkeys to New Hope Ministries assuring Thanksgiving dinner to families that otherwise wouldn’t have one,
or fixing a heating problem for a non-profit perpetually pinching pennies just to keep the doors open, Zimmerman is often the community
“go-to guy” and problem solver.
Proceeds from the tribute dinner recognizing Zimmerman will benefit the Partnership funding downtown events, storefront improvements,
beautification efforts and marketing initiatives. In the past year, new pole banners have been added, “open banners” were offered to businesses, sign grants provided, the fall Mugs & Music event was added to the calendar, record crowds realized at Earth Day activities and more.
Zimmerman joins a distinguished group of Mechanicsburg-proud previous honorees including Mayor and Ritter’s Hardware co-owner Jack
Ritter, Simpson Library Director and Partnership President Sue Erdman and Members 1st Federal Credit Union CEO and President Bob
Marquette.
The Downtown Mechanicsburg Partnership’s annual tribute dinner is held at the Mechanicsburg Club, 333 Heinz Dr., Mechanicsburg. WHTMTV ABC-27 reporter Valerie Pritchett will serve as master of ceremonies for the event. Tickets are $50 per person. A 6 p.m. reception followed
by buffet dinner at 6:30 is planned. Tickets can be reserved by phoning 441-3839 or emailing [email protected]. Reservations are requested by October 9. All Partnership board members can also place ticket orders. Board members include John Anthony,
Glenda Boyer, Mary Beth Brath, Bob Carey, Scott Christ, Taylor Eisenberger, Sue Erdman, Dave Galloway, Sandy Huffman, Kristen Janowski,
Jason Manges, Deb McCreary, Mike Stewart and Rebecca Yearick, and liaison to Mechanicsburg Borough Council Scott Pellman.
Tribute dinner attendees are asked to bring a non-perishable food item which will be donated to an area food bank—another way to say
thank you to our honoree and for supporting your Downtown Mechanicsburg businesses.
