quaking aspens, the wildlife, the rivers. Luxurious
furnishings mingle beautifully with rustic. Colors we
choose mimic nature. Many homes are handed down

A kaleidoscope of winter memories lived passionately.
Skiing Olympic Lady before the crowds arrive. Freezing
on the slopes to watch snowboarders (including my
daughter) compete in the half-pipe. Giggling every time,
just a little, as the Snow Shovel Brigade and the high
school band march by during SnowFest.

The best part of living in the mountains is the mountains themselves.
Most mornings, I’ll hike the cross country ski trails, dogs in tow even in thunderstorms. Our destination , a pristine reservoir three
miles in , and if we’re lucky, an encounter with beavers. Solitude is
happily interrupted with dogs jumping in the stream, hikers ambling
by and the occasional squirrel . The wildflower shows are captivating:
Larkspur, Indian paint brush, orange lilies and purple lupine.
Blooming, I think, just for me.

4th of July is a big holiday up here. Town is packed. All my clients, including
me, are doing the same thing, planning big menus, stocking up on food at the
farmer’s market, buying candles and sparklers. Getting boats ready to launch.
Awaiting the rush with mounting anticipation – when our kids burst in from
college and family friends fill the bunk house.

I used to come to Tahoe for six weeks
in the winter and ski everyday. I’d
