HEAVEN'S LOSS
Recently while reading about missionary
Hudson Taylor's life sacrifice and dedication
to spread the gospel to China from 18531905, he cited these interesting words:
"Measure thy life by loss instead of gain;
Not by the wine drunk, but the wine poured
forth;

suffering ones.
Although written over 170 years ago, the
message still remains. God sent His only
Son----a loss for Heaven, but gain for
mankind. His only Son proved His strength and mighty power by pouring
out His life for us on the cross as a sacrifice of love. He suffered the
most for us to give us His best.
During the Christmas season and
with the arrival of the New Year may
we imitate our Creator as we
continue to lift our voices of
gratitude and praise to God for the
treasure and blessings of our
children, friends, churches, country,
and our school while remembering to
give freely and sacrificially to others,
not for our own gain but for His
Glory!

Last Christmas program theme
was the Fear Not Factor,
coordinated by our music
teacher Mrs. Justine Hasulube,
and performed by our own
students from Grades 1 to 8.
The program brought a lot of
laughter and enjoyment from
the audience but with a
powerful message of Jesus's
birth spoken by the angels in
the play. Yes, fear not and let's
not forget why Jesus came to
earth... to save us!

It was such a blessing to see our children being used by God NOW!
Firehouse is a program by River of Life headed by Pastor Nancy
Thomason for kids to minister to other kids. The purpose of the program
is to develop their spiritual gifts and use them to serve God now and not
wait till they are older. Firehouse kids are taught to write mini-sermons
and preach, write songs and sing and even lead worship and pray boldly
for others. Their code is to be Dangerously Pure for God! Kids from
River of Life and all over the Fox-Valley area also participates in
Firehouse.
CCS and River of Life have partnered to bring more of Jesus in our
school and give God the honor HE deserves.

FLAG PRESENTATION
He was 17 and I seven. Eugene David Nelson
enlisted in the United States Navy at the early
age of 17. His mom and dad had to sign for
him to be allowed to enter the Navy. When he
retired after a service of over 30 years he left
the United States Navy as Senior Chief Nelson.
In the year 2000, my big brother died of
cancer. But, before he died he promised me he
was going to get well and go to all the schools
that would let him in, and teach the children of

this country, all the aspects of the flag. His
daughter gave me all the information he had
concerning the United States flag.
3rd & 4th Grade
Teacher
After my brothers death I began my journey of teaching my students
about this land, that my brother loved and served so well, the United
States of America. My heart's desire is to awaken in the hearts of every
one of my students the patriotism that my brother had instilled in my
heart. "Freedom Isn't Free" is what I have been teaching my students.
We have sent many Soldiers and Sailors student made pictures
expressing our gratitude for their service to this great country of ours.
Some have responded back with letters to us and a few of them have
even come to visit our class when on "leave" or visiting their families.
One particular person that visited us recently was Brittany Schick. She
brought back the pictures my students sent her last year, gave them
back to them, and then explained how special their pictures were to her
and all of her men that serve under her command. Then she presented
our class with a flag and a certificate. The flag was flown on a Special
Operation aircraft during a Combat Mission over Afghanistan in direct
support of Operation Enduring Freedom in honor of Covenant Christian
School, on 25 April 2012. On the certificate there is a quote from
President John Fitzgerald Kennedy; "Let every nation know, whether it
wishes us well or ill, that we will pay any price, bear any burden, meet
any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, in order to assure the
survival and success of liberty." Also, the certificate is signed by Joe
Bozarth IV, Major, United States Air Force, 319th ESOS Commander,
Scott Dunning, Major, United States Air Force, Aircraft Commander, and
Brittany Schick, Captain, United States Air force, Intelligence
Officer.
The day she visited our class, Captain Schick was accompanied by her
precious mother who had her children at CCS and for a time was our art
teacher!
I will be forever grateful for the visit from these two wonderful women
and how God is using Captain Schick to be salt and light to the lost. Also,
she has an opportunity to shine for Jesus in the United Stated Air Force

and that is what I am told she is doing.

BASKETBALL
Thank you for Coach Huntley Brown, James Warren and Mike Hapner for
coaching our students in Basketball. Not only did they coach them on
proper techniques in playing basketball but also how to be a good sport
whether the team wins or loses! Getting involved in basketball is all
about sportsmanship and carrying Christ to our opponent by being a good
sport and most importantly, playing fair. Our Golden Warriors team has
been involved playing at least once or twice a month with other Christian
schools like St. Paul, Parkview, Faith (Geneva), Calvary, Cross Lutheran,
Resurrection, Aurora Christian, Downers Grove and Crossroads. We
commend our CCS students for giving their best and being a good role
model when playing with other Christian schools.

PARENT TESTIMONY
By Eric and Melissa Cervantes
Being a part of Covenant has impacted our lives most in that we have
full peace of mind and confidence in sending our children to be under the
care of godly people who truly love them, and have nothing but the
absolute best care and training of them in mind. Christ's love is
exemplified through their teaching and instructions, and the Gospel is
always prevalent and lived out in the halls of the school every day. Our
children are steeped in the love of Christ every day they are there, and it
truly shows in the knowledge they receive and present in their lives
outside of school.

PORQUE SERA QUE ALGUNOS PADRES HISPANOS NO LE PONEN TANTA
IMPORTANCIA A LA EDUCACION? FERRER
Por Mónica Desoto
Porqué será que algunos padres hispanos
no le ponen tanta importancia a la
educación? Está pregunta se planteó la
doctora Lourdes Ferrer en su conferencia
" Siéntese en la silla del conductor. Las
diez competencias para conducir a sus
hijos al triunfo académico" que dictó de
manera especial para padres de familia
hispanos y he querido compartir un poco
de ello para ustedes.
Mrs. Monica Soto

WHY IS IT SOME HISPANIC PARENTS DO NOT PAY MUCH IMPORTANCE
TO EDUCATION? ~ DR. LOURDES FERRER
Why is it that some Hispanic parents do not pay much importance to
education? This question was raised by Dr. Lourdes Ferrer in her lecture
"Sit in the driver's seat. The ten skills to lead their children to academic
success "that issued specially for Hispanic parents and I wanted to share
a bit of it for you.
The answer to your question is that some Hispanic parents come from
countries where education does not necessarily lead to a life of quality.
To ensure the above presents another question, do you think?
Dr. Lourdes Ferrer said the federal government of the United States
holds schools responsible for the academic achievement of all children,

regardless of race, ethnicity or socio-economic level to which they
belong.
She explained that quality education requires a student to reach
proficiency in reading and mathematics and graduate from high school
with a solid academic foundation and vocational, technical or vocational
post-secondary degree.
The Academic Success Specialist also in Spanish, believes that children
should read at their proper grade level, they should be able to use
context to determine the meaning of an unknown word and establish the
author's purpose.
Proficiency in math has to do with knowledge of the subject matter,
according to grade level using analysis and critical thinking to solve
problems in Math.
Dr. Lourdes Ferrer is a noted seminar leader, motivational speaker, and
assessment consultant. She has done numerous studies regarding the
achievement of minority students. She developed the Navigating the
American Educational System curriculum for Spanish-speaking parents.
