Our Lady of Perpetual Help School CRUSADER Volume 16 New Albany, Indiana CHRONICLE Rise up, Respect, Rely on God December 2, 2015 Dear Our Lady Families, Welcome back! I hope your Thanksgiving break was wonderful! Happy New Year! We began a new liturgical year on Sunday with the start of the Advent season. As we wait and prepare for the birth of our Savior, we have many opportunities for prayer and service. Read on to see how you can be engaged... The Word and Actions of God Each morning of Advent, we begin our day with a Scripture passage broadcast by our student news team. Also, every class at Our Lady is collecting items to give to those in need throughout our community. Our middle-schoolers will be tying ribbons around some items for the soup kitchens in Southern Indiana during their Service Project time coordinated by Mrs. Russell and Ms. Julius. Please help your children think of ways they can do extra at home and for others to earn the funds for their service items. This is a time to reflect on our blessings and share the goodness with others. Providence Singers and Popcorn Players Tomorrow, we will be treated to the talents of these performers from our Deanery Catholic high school. It is always a joy to spot the Our Lady alumni and siblings of our students here. Feel free to join us. The fun begins at 12:30 PM. Saint Nicholas Day The feast day of St. Nick is on Sun., Dec. 6. It is said that St. Nick leaves a little candy, gift or reminder in the shoes or stockings of children being good to help keep the spirit going until Christ's birth on Christmas Day. Our Lady will recognize this tradition after Mass on Friday, Dec. 4 as students each leave one shoe outside their classroom doors hoping for a gold candy coin from St. Nick's helpers! All School Mass This Tuesday, we celebrate the Feast of the Immaculate Conception of Mary with an 8:00 AM All-School Mass. God’s plan for Mary was ordained before her birth as she was conceived and born free of original sin. Just an FYI--Our middle school students are helping plan some of the songs each week from the new Choose Christ booklets, so we hope you notice our worship through music. Advent Penance Service On Wednesday, Dec. 9 at 9:30 AM, students in Grades 3-8 will participate in an Advent Penance Service with Fr. Eric and other priests from our Deanery. Our students have the opportunity to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation, sharing in the loving mercy and forgiveness of God and preparing their hearts for the birth of Christ. Christmas Program Mrs. Rodmaker and K-4 students as well as our Musical Performance group will be busy practicing for the Christmas program quickly approaching on Thursday, Dec. 10 at 1:00 and 6:30 PM in the gym. Please join us for this spirited program of carols and a small skit. Then our Student Council will serve hot chocolate following the evening performance for just $1 a cup! Catch the Christmas spirit at Our Lady by coming out for this festive event! Reminders Dress for the weather! We go outside even when it is cold--at least for a brief time and a lap or two around the parking lot. Be sure you are familiar with our school closing and delay policy (published last week). I'll see you at the PTO Craft Bazaar on Saturday from 10:00-3:00. Don't miss St. Nick who will be there from 10:00 -12:00 AM and the Book Fair for great Christmas gifts. The proceeds will purchase another Smart Board for our school! Soups, hot dogs and soft drinks will be served. Let's hear it for Our Lady's PTO! Here's to a prayerful, kind Advent week!
