Located approximately 7 km from
Pahalgam, Betaab Valley is a beautiful area
surrounded with dense deodar and pine
forests, and snow-capped mountains. This
valley got its name from the movie Betaab.
The beautiful garden in the valley can be
accessed by a bridge. Also, this valley is
where you can locate the river Sheshnag.
valley is at a 12 km trek distance or taxi ride
away from Pahalgam. It would usually take
you 10 hrs to go to and come back from Aru
if you’re trekking, so make sure you keep
ample time in your itinerary for this one.
There are a number of local eateries around
Aru Valley where you can satiate your
hunger pangs with maggi, pakodas and
other dishes. Rounding off your meal with a
cup of hot steaming coffee will be a good
idea as well!

The archaeologically interesting ruins of the
8th-century Martand Sun Temple are
located about 60 km from Pahalgam, near
the town of Anantnag. It is also the same
spot where some famous bollywood movies
were shot. A trip to Pahalgam is said to be
incomplete without visiting this
temple. 
All sightseeing and no play makes you a dull
traveller, does it? Tee off in Pahalgam’s
beautifully maintained Pahalgam Golf
Course. Shaded by tall pine trees and
the misty air of the region to keep you
company, you can ‘putt’ together with locals
here and experience a true, Kashmiri bond.
Several hotels and even the state
government organize golfing championships
every summer here to encourage the sport
as well as the tourism industry of the town.
You can buy light refreshments, hire a
caddy, golf clubs and other golfing
equipments near the gate of the golf course,
so don’t worry about carrying these things
with you. There is an entry fee for tourists,
apart from the rental charges for golfing
equipment.

Mamaleshwar Shiva Temple
For those interested in history, Pahalgam’s
biggest attraction is the ancient 
Mamaleshwar Shiva Temple. 
A little over 1 km away from Pahalgam, it is
dedicated to Lord Shiva and was once
adorned in gold at the peak of its popularity.
The legend surrounding this temple
suggests that Lord Ganesha was placed as a
doorkeeper at the site of this temple and
hence it gets its name “mam mal”, which
translates to “don’t go”!
