THE ‘WHITE CITY OF TEL AVIV’
Bauhaus architecture
History awarded Tel-Aviv with pieces of unique architecture, especially the International style of
the buildings.
There is the largest Bauhaus collection in the world, which led UNESCO to declare the ‘White City
of Tel Aviv’ as a world heritage site. If Tel- Aviv has a reason to enter The Guinness Book of Records,
it may well be because of the 4000 International-style houses, standing in the center of the city.

JAFFA – Home for Three Religions, One God
Frequently referred to as the oldest functioning port city in the world, is the main anchor
for modern Tel Aviv. It is awash in historic monuments and feels more traditionally Middle
Eastern, where Jews, Christians and Muslims reside in harmony. Today, the two cities are
officially one - called Tel Aviv-Jaffa - and while they may look and feel quite different,
together, they create a unique fusion of Levantine, Arab, European, Jewish, modern and
ancient influences. They complement and complete one another.

Today, thanks to the investment and support of the municipality
of Tel Aviv-Jaffa, Jaffa’s port continues to act as a fisherman’s
port, while offering a variety of cultural activities, urban leisure,
trade and tourism to the public.
Nalaga’at Center meaning ‘Do Touch’ in Hebrew, located at
the Jaffa port, opened on the basic belief that every human
being has the right to contribute to the society in which he/she
lives.
A visit to the Center will change the way you think, the way you
feel, the way you are...

Jaffa’s First Train Station was inaugurated in 1892 as part of the railway line running to and
from Jerusalem. Today, it is just one of Tel Aviv’s noteworthy preservation projects: The original
station, train tracks and cars, along with the surrounding buildings have been renovated and
reopened as a cultural hub, and is one of the city’s top attractions.
Ilana Goor museum is also her home with warmth and character that only
a home can exude. It embodies the principles that guide Ilana in her work:
The old with the new, and the rural and traditional alongside the industrial and
cutting-edge.

SARONA, former Templars Colony – In the coming years,
37 of the site’s buildings will be transformed into a complex
comprising a visitor center, 40-dunam park, and cultural
institutions.
Tel Aviv Port was founded in 1936. It was the first Hebrew
docking port established in Mandatory Palestine. After
substantial renovation, it is now one of Tel Aviv’s most
vivacious areas, and is one of the liveliest quarters of Tel
Aviv for both nightlife and as a daytime hangout.
Bialik Street, the Charming and Well Defined Culture
Area has benefited greatly from Tel Aviv’s preservation efforts.
The small strip houses, some great examples of Bauhaus
design, and a small museum dedicated to this architectural
movement. Other noteworthy sites located here are the city’s
first municipal hall, the recently renovated home of the street’s
namesake, Haim Nahman Bialik, Israel’s poet laureate, and
the Rubin museum.

The Habima Theater Complex situated on Habima Square, also known as the Orchestra Square, is
centrally located, and also includes the Helena Rubenstein pavilion and the Mann Auditorium, home of
the Israel Philharmonic orchestra. The square is being transformed into a modern public space designed
by leading Israeli sculptor Dani Karavan.
9
CULTURE AROUND THE CLOCK
The municipality of Tel Aviv-Jaffa devotes its resources to support and enrich its cultural
institutions and bodies, creating Culture Around the Clock.
The Association for Tourism Tel Aviv-Jaffa: Combines visits to museums during its guided tours in the city.
Does not cease in creating new touring routes.
It also operates the Tour bus around the city.
Our monthly newsletter, distributed to: foreign embassies in Israel, Israeli consulates and Ministry of
Tourism offices around the world, foreign journalists and tourist bodies, focuses on new exhibitions
and museums - a cultural communication to attract tourism.
We issue an annual City-Pass booklet, that has large discounts for cultural events held in the city.
It is granted to every tourist arriving to the city, and is done in cooperation with the Tel Aviv Hotels
Association.
