President's Report 16th November 2015
Fellow Rotarians, Partners and Friends.
Well done Tony and the Team! What a wonderful night it was. It was great to meet such a
fine selection of young people for our Rotary programs, which our Club was able to sponsor.
The way they presented themselves disproves all the skeptics who are forever complaining
about young generations and dwelling on their own " when-we times". So just relax, our
future is in good hands - these young people are well spoken, engaged in their lives, with
great ambitions to achieve.
It may not always be easy in those turbulent times around the world but will do our best to support these budding
professionals. We look forward to seeing them again after completing their programs, to witness their
transformation and personal growth.
On another note, today I went to the Cherrybrook village to see our Christmas Tree of Joy. Thank you Santa
Brian and helpers.
There are a number of pleas for children living in poverty or violent environment. I selected some kid's dreams
from the Tree. Would you be able to help?
I have also read many wishes from adults missing on basic things in their lives which we often take for granted.
One man would like to own a book, another, some simple outdoor equipment. They do not ask for much - let's
join our forces and help to put a smile on their faces.
Next week District Governor Gina will be visiting our club. She would like to meet members of the Board of
Directors one hour prior to the meeting. Could you please come to the Springfield House on 5.30pm this coming
Monday.
Until then, enjoy your weekend..
Teresa
Night Report 16th November

The President advised that November is Rotary Foundation month. Any monies donated to the Rotary
Foundation are eventually returned to the Club through either local or international grants. She announced that
21 members of the Club have elected to be Centurions this year by donating $100 to the Foundation - an
excellent result.
The President awarded Brian Furrer a recognition from Rotary International. It represents appreciation to a
member who introduces a new and valuable member to the Club. Brian introduced Neville Hansen who has
quickly become an active and recognised member.

enough interest from the Club he will consider arranging a trip to the city.
Rotary 101
On Tuesday 24 Nov we will holding an evening designed to inform newer members about Rotary. How it
works, is organised and funded and how things get done. It’s a power point led informal discussion over a glass
of red This is basically centred around the club level and avenues of service but will touch on our relationship to
district and the International Organisation. At the end of the evening we believe that one will able to be a more
productive Rotarian earlier.
We will hold this at our home starting at 7.30pm. If you would like to come please email me.

Concert for Nepal Quake Relief - Riverside Theatre
From Cawas In case anyone is interested to attend I am sure it
will be a good evening of cultural exchange. Also funds
collected will go to a very worthy cause to help build 20
shelters for widows who lost their husbands in the quake and a
school in one of the remote villages.
District 9685 Christmas Dinner
Come to the 2016 D9685 Conference - heaps of fun
Now that the garage sale is well and truly
over, it is time to turn your mind to the
Conference.
The Conference is on Friday 11th March
and Saturday 12th March 2016 (no events
on the Sunday this time which gives you
the day off to sleep in/sober
up/sightseeing, whatever).
Early Bird bookings for the
Conference end on 30th November.
The Conference Website has more
information but it is still too early for a full
programme.
You can be certain it will be a good do enlightening and fun - It always is.
We also need to sort out accommodation fairly soon to ensure we are all in the same place.
I suggest the Rydges Lakeside - now renamed QT Canberra. This is a short walk from the Conference
Centre. We have stayed there before and it is a
very respectable digs. I am also told that it has
been refurbished.
Current prices are $182/night plus breakfast
($21). These rates seem to be a bit flexible - this
rate came from reception but the website says
$175/night plus $21 breakfast. If you want a view
(same room but higher floor) the price goes up $50.
If you think these rates are high you haven’t stayed
in Canberra recently.
Could you please Give it some thought. I have never been to a bad conference and the more the merrier.
1. Check the website for more details
2. Update the schedule emailed to you, or advise your intent to Tony Makin.
3. Book the Conference before the end of November to get the Early Bird rate – booking is through
the website.
4. Book a hotel room. QT phone number is 6247 6244 or [email protected]
. Rotary do not book accommodation.
5. Call Tony if you are not yet enthused.
Don’t miss out – it will be good!
Kind Regards,
Tony Makin

A teaspoonful of glycerine mixed with two of cream will give relief. Salad
oil and sugar is also good. But best of all , if the patient is not an infant, is
four or five drops of chlorodyne in a little water. Tis last is an excellent
remedy for whooping cough
Humour
Two hillbillies walk into a restaurant. While having a bite to eat, they talk about their moonshine operation.
Suddenly, a woman at a nearby table, who is eating a sandwich, begins to cough. After a minute or so, it becomes
apparent that she is in real distress. One of the hillbillies looks at her and says, 'Kin ya swallar?'
The woman shakes her head no. Then he asks, 'Kin ya breathe?' The woman begins to turn blue and shakes her
head no.
The hillbilly walks over to the woman, lifts up her dress, yanks down her drawers and quickly gives her right butt
cheek a lick with his tongue.
The woman is so shocked that she has a violent spasm and the obstruction flies out of her mouth.
As she begins to breathe again, the Hillbilly walks slowly back to his table. His partner says, 'Ya know, I'd heerd
of that there 'Hind Lick Maneuver' but I ain't niver seed nobody do it!'

The CIA had an opening for an assassin. After all the background checks, interviews, and testing were done
there were three finalist… Two men and a woman.
For the final test, the CIA agents took on of the men to a large metal door and handed him a gun. ‘
We must know that you will follow our instructions, no matter what the circumstances. Inside this room, you
will find your wife sitting in a chair. Kill her!!!’
The man said, can’t be serious. I could never shoot my wife’
The agent said, ‘Then you’re not the right man for this job’
The second man was given the same instructions. He took the gun and went into the room. All was quiet for
about 5 minutes. Then the man came out with tears in his eyes. ‘I tried but I can’t kill my wife.
The agent said ‘You don’t have what it takes. Take your wife and go home.
Finally, it was the woman’s turn. She was given the same instructions to kill her husband. She took the gun and
went into the room. Shots were heard, one shot after another. The heard screaming, crashing, and banging on
the walls. After a few minutes all was quiet. The door opened slowly and there stood the woman.
She wiped the sweat from her brow, and said, ‘This gun is loaded with blanks, so I had to beat him to death with
the chair.
