From the Director’s podium...
… And here we go!
The season is off to a fast and great start. We have our competition show, “Human After All” on the field through
our opener and ballad. The band staff has a number of ideas ready to put into parts of the show already completed as we also look forward to learning our closer. Students are asked to keep working on their show music and
learning their drill away from band rehearsals so everyone is ready to move forward when we set new drill.
This past month we successfully ended our three-week long band camp with our annual Parent Preview. We also
had a record Ice Cream Social and a performance for the community at the Kleptz Early Learning Center Dedication. I received a personal letter from Northmont City Schools Superintendent, Dr. Sarah Zatik, thanking the band
for their participation on that special day. It is a true sign of respect and admiration that our students are chosen
to represent the school district at such a huge community event!
We finished August with our annual Band Premiere. I was glad to not have to spend any part of the night contemplating rain. All of the bands were able to focus on performing and starting off their season at our event. I was
proud of the band’s performance, but we all knew there was plenty of room for improvement. We will be back at
it in September with a couple rehearsal weekends as well as the Bellbrook Invitational and Dayton BOA Regional.
Check out the band at one of the following performances:
September 6, 10a-4p Rehearsal
September 12, 7:30p Game vs. Lakota East
September 13, 8:15p Bellbrook Invitational
September 20, 9a-9p Rehearsal
September 26, 7:00p 8th Grade Band Night/Wee Bolts Night
September 27, all day Dayton BOA Regional, Welcome Stadium
I want to thank you for your continued

Message from the President
Thank you to all who contributed their efforts to help make the 2014 Band Premiere a great success. A very
special thanks and kudos to Kathy and Charlie Tyler for their tireless planning and chairing the committees for
this year’s Band Premiere event.
Although there seemed to be a threat of rain, we managed to get the entire Band Premiere completed without any lightning, thunder or rain delays. We had good attendance and brisk sales at the concessions, making
this year’s event very profitable over recent years. Good job NBB!!
I invite all family and friends to come watch our Marching Band’s first competition at the Bellbrook MSBA this
Saturday. Wear your band show shirts, picture buttons, spirit wear and look for our group sitting in the stands
above the 40 yard line. Be ready to cheer our students to victory in their competition.
With Pride,
Bill Boegel

Wilson presented
with Bowers Award
Former Band Treasurer, John Wilson, was presented
with the Bowers Award at the 48th Annual Band Premiere on Saturday, August 30.
The Bowers Award is given to a former Booster
member who has provided continued support and
assistance to the band after their band student has left
the program.
Wilson has continued his support of the band by
consulting with the current treasurer on finance questions and by continuing to pursue restitution from an
incident three years ago.
NBB thanks John Wilson for all he does to keep the
band program’s finances healthy and stable.
Fundraising Opportunities
Eat-In Fundraisers a “win-win”
For many of us who recently received our house assessments, we instantly became disheartened. While our
communities are safe, clean, have charming libraries, can boast of an outstanding educational system and numerous other assets, those assessments were gut wrenching.
Here’s your chance to mitigate the development of additional problems and a method of fighting back. Each
month, you and your friends can show support for local businesses/restaurants. This is a win-win. Many times
Special Events will promote a restaurant, which relieves the family of cooking duties while letting various businesses learn of our support and increase their revenue. Other times, it may be a place of amusement/entertainment. The beauty is the NBB will receive a percentage of the profit. Eventually, other businesses may be
attracted to our community thus increasing employment opportunities as well as other benefits.
What can you do? Make certain you check newsletters, look on the band’s website, listen to “One Call” messages and help spread the information. Most times flyers are required, so make certain you post one on your
FaceBook, give a copy to a neighbor or friend; whatever method you choose.
The next scheduled Eat-In is September 24 at LaRosa’s Pizza from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. The promotional
flyer is available on the band’s website. We hope to see you there.

Band Premiere a Success
No rain, lightning, delays or cancellations! The 2014 Band Premiere was a smooth operation and most everyone
was home before midnight. For those in attendance, 12 high school marching bands presented their 2014 competition shows. Two bands -- Delaware Hayes and Grove City Christian -- were new to our event. The event allowed for
some of our regular bands to work out schedule conflicts and still perform.
Many thanks goes out to the Band Competition Events Committee for their long hours of planning and set up.
Committee members are Jason George, Cheryl Hamant, Doug Ward, Bob & Lisa Gaylor, Suzanne Vennemeyer, Teri
Davis, Brian Hope, Debbie Harris, Darren Markins, Kris Baker, Alexis Willisford, Linda Kididis, Desteny Thomason,
Michelle Pearce, and Charlie Tyler. The same committee will have a little break before working on the next event.
Many thanks also go out to our volunteers. We really do need each and everyone one of you to pull off this event.
Everyone has an important job and we try to make the event enjoyable and safe for everyone in attendance. Also
thank you to everyone who donated baked goods at the last minute for our bake sale.
While the Northmont Band Premiere is considered an exhibition, participating marching band are judged, reviewed and video recorded. The event
follows the rules and regulations of the Mid-State Band Association (MSBA)
guidelines. Many band directors use our event as a dress rehearsal for the
competition season which is why we work toward making it a smooth, friendly
event.
John Wilson, Northmont Band Boosters former treasurer, was honored with
the Michael Bowers Distinguished Service Award.
Programs from the Band Premiere are available for $3 at tonight’s Booster The bus parking challenges of Band
meeting. Get your collector’s edition now while they are still hot.
Premiere
MSBA Class AA Championships Nov. 8
Preparation and planning will begin for the MSBA Class AA Championship which is scheduled to be held Saturday,
Nov. 8, at Good Samaritan Stadium. Currently there are 17 high school marching bands in this classification representing three states -- Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky. The event will be posted on CHARMS before the end of September;
however, exact report times and shifts will not be announced until the performance schedule is complete. This
event is the final competition of the MSBA season and gives high school marching bands bragging rights for a year.
The event is all day with a preliminary competition in the morning and afternoon and then a final competition with
award ceremony in the evening.
Last year, Northmont was host to 23 marching bands with a 11-band final. The event started at 10 a.m. and
ended close to midnight.
While the Northmont Band Boosters hosts the Class AA, our own Northmont Marching Band will be performing
at William Mason High School in Class AAAA on the same day. There will be conflicts in the performance schedule
which are unavoidable. More information will be available at the next booster meeting but if anyone has any questions, please feel free to contact Kathy Tyler, event chair.
