EFCU History - Eglin Federal Credit Union
OCTOBER 2014
838 Eglin Parkway NE, Fort Walton Beach, FL 32547-2781
EFCU History
FCU was established in 1954 when
a group of 44 personnel at Eglin Air
Force Base applied for a federal charter,
which was approved on October 11, 1954.
The first year the Credit Union signed up
225 members and had assets of $8,000. In
those early years, one employee worked in
a borrowed office on Eglin Air Force Base
before moving into an old barracks building
near Postal Point, referred to affectionately
as Skunk Hollow. In July 1970, EFCU
built its first permanent branch on Eglin.
Its second full-service branch opened on
Hurlburt in February 1973. Today, EFCU
has nine branches serving 113,000 members
worldwide with assets of $1.6 billion.
