UNITED BY PASSION. FUELED BY DREAMS.
MISSION:
The NASCAR Foundation embodies the compassion of the NASCAR Family and its

volunteerism to support nonprofit charities and charitable causes throughout the nation with an
emphasis placed on initiatives that affect the ability of children to live, learn and play.
IMPACT: Since 2006, The NASCAR Foundation has contributed more than $13 Million in charitable
support and helped provide medical treatment for more than 24,000 children annually at Speediatrics,
fulfilled more than 600 NASCAR Dreams, sent more than 1,100 kids to Victory Junction camp, recruited
12,000 fans to become part of a Volunteer Network and created educational opportunities for schoolaged students that help to engage them in science and engineering programs.

2011 BOARD
OF DIRECTORS
A Letter From Our Chairwoman
Chairwoman
Dear Friends,
We are so appreciative of the support of the
NASCAR fans, drivers, teams, tracks and sponsors
who made 2011 – when we celebrated the fifth
anniversary of The NASCAR Foundation – such a
success. Thanks to your contributions, we were able
to award more than $3 million in charitable support.
What a year it was.
In addition to the anniversary, there was the
launch of NASCAR Unites, an industry-wide initiative.
NASCAR Unites has created opportunities for fans,
drivers, teams, tracks and sponsors to collectively
improve the people’s lives across the nation through
volunteering, raising awareness and utilizing the assets of our wonderful sport. We
weren’t surprised when NASCAR Nation achieved the goals we set out to accomplish
– one million volunteer hours, and $1 million raised. This initiative also helped shine a
brighter light on all of The NASCAR Foundation’s good works.
And then, there was the inaugural Betty Jane France Humanitarian Award, presented
in December 2011 at the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Awards in Las Vegas. The award
was all about looking for “community champions” who personified the caring and
generosity of the NASCAR Nation through their work with children in need.
For months leading up to that presentation, we received hundreds of nominations.
Eventually, the list of nominees was pared to four most-worthy finalists and ultimately,
a winner – Robert Weaver, a grand gentleman from Talladega, Alabama, who has
impacted the lives of 15,000 children during his 50 years of service.
From the outset of The NASCAR Foundation being formed, we have been
overwhelmed by the support within our sport’s industry and its fan base. That support
has helped us do so much over the last six years. That support will continue to be vital
as we move forward.
Sincerely,
Betty Jane France

The NASCAR Foundation
Celebrates Five Years as
“Heart of NASCAR”
Since 2006, The NASCAR Foundation
and its supporters have been the heart of
the NASCAR community, encouraging,
facilitating and guiding philanthropic
efforts. In its first five years, The NASCAR
Foundation awarded $11.5 million in
charitable support.
“Since the beginning, The NASCAR
Foundation has been devoted to serving
others and positively impacting the lives
of those it reaches,” said Mike Helton,
president of NASCAR and The NASCAR
Foundation board member. “The
number of people and organizations we
have been able to support in only five
years proves our dedication to the vision
of Betty Jane France in establishing The
NASCAR Foundation to improve the
lives of others. As we look to the future,
we are more committed than ever to
uniting the sport in efforts to improve the
lives of children in need.”

NASCAR UNITES
Improving lives with the passion and the power of NASCAR
NASCAR Unites
brings the passion
and power of
an entire sport
together to make
the world we live
in a better place.
This industry-wide
initiative creates
an opportunity
for NASCAR fans,
drivers, teams,
tracks, sponsors and
more to unite to
improve the lives of
those in need across
the nation through
volunteering, raising
awareness and
utilizing the assets of
the sport to make a
difference.
4
NASCAR Unites Launch
In April 2011, The NASCAR Foundation launched
the NASCAR Unites movement by providing the
NASCAR community with “Two Million Ways to Unite
for Kids.” Through NASCAR Unites’ volunteerism and
fundraising efforts, The NASCAR Foundation achieved
its 2011 goals of granting $1 million to children’s
charities and generating one million volunteer hours
in local communities to help children lead happier,
healthier lives.
Greg Biffle was one of many drivers
who sported the NASCAR Unites
logo on their cars during the
NASCAR Unites launch at Richmond
International Raceway in April 2011.
Disaster Relief
Jamie McMurray tours his
hometown of Joplin, MO to
survey the damage caused by
the devastating tornadoes that
struck the area in May 2011.
The NASCAR community united
together in support of disaster relief
efforts across the Southeastern United
States in the wake of tornadoes
and other weather disasters that
ravaged the area. Pledging more than
$400,000 in donations and supplies
to help those affected by these
events, the NASCAR community’s
contribution was led by a donation of
$250,000 to the American Red Cross
by The NASCAR Foundation.

NASCAR Unites Habitat Build
Employees from NASCAR Media Group and SPEED Channel
united with The NASCAR Foundation and Habitat for Humanity
to build a house for a deserving family in the Charlotte, N.C.
community. Over just a two week period, volunteers saw a house
come together from foundation to putting the finishing touches.
“I Will, Join the
9/11 Tribute Movement”
The entire NASCAR family united together to
commemorate the 10th anniversary of the 9/11
attacks with a special in-race tribute on Saturday,
Sept. 10, 2011 during the NASCAR Sprint Cup
Series race at Richmond International Raceway.
Fans attending the event, ABC-TV and MRN Radio
broadcasters announcing the race, and the track
announcer all participated in a three-lap moment of
silence from laps 9 through 11 at the .75-mile oval.

The Winner
The NASCAR Foundation Chairwoman
Betty Jane France presented Robert
Weaver, an 83-year-old Talladega, Ala.,
native, with the inaugural Betty Jane
France Humanitarian Award during the
2011 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series awards
ceremony at Wynn Las Vegas.
Weaver, who is known across the
Talladega region as the “Ice Cream Man”
because of the many treats he delivers to
deaf, blind and multi-disabled students,
received the most votes among four
finalists during a nationwide fan vote on
NASCAR.COM and the mobile voting site
developed by Sprint.
As the winner of the inaugural Betty
Jane France Humanitarian Award, Weaver
received a 2012 Ford Explorer from Ford
and $100,000 for the Alabama Institute

benefit children from Alabama
School for the Blind, Alabama School for
the Deaf and the Helen Keller School of
Alabama for many years to come.

In 2011, the Sailfish Cup surpassed the $500,000
fundraising mark in only five years!
Jim Hunter was a beloved family man, friend, mentor and
communications professional. He served as NASCAR Vice President of
Corporate Communications, a founding board member of The NASCAR
Foundation, President of Darlington Raceway and a member of the
motorsports media. His career in motorsports spanned portions of six
decades as both a journalist and public relations professional. Jim’s
leadership, passion, and spirit continue to have an impact on those who
came into contact with him, including all his friends and colleagues.
His professional passion may have been motorsports, but those
who were lucky enough to know him, know Jimbo’s true recreational
passion was golf. Many a day was spent out on the links at golf
courses across the country and the world.
Racin’ to the 19th Hole: The Jim Hunter Memorial Golf
Tournament served as the perfect way to honor his memory and leave
a legacy that will benefit the
causes he held closest to his
heart. Thanks to the generosity
of all who participated in the
event, $157,000 was raised for The NASCAR Foundation, McLeod
Children’s Hospital of Florence, South Carolina and the Jim Hunter
Memorial Endowment Scholarship at the University of South Carolina.
