The Story Of Delta Omega / Iota Omega
In the winter of 1960, five members of Kappa Alpha Psi formally came together to establish the fraternity’s presence on the
campus of the University of Missouri-Columbia. That came just a few years after black students began being admitted to
attend the university and it was the first time that any black Greek-letter organization was seen in Columbia.
Those five men are considered the founders of what would ultimately become the Delta Omega Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi.
One was Fred Fayne, a medical student who had completed his undergraduate studies at Dillard University, where he was
initiated in Beta Gamma in 1953. He was joined by Kenneth Moppins and David Goss, both of whom transferred to Mizzou
from Harris Teachers College in 1959. Both had been initiated into the Beta Nu Chapter in 1958. The Kappas on campus also
included Roscoe H. Adams and William Hardy. Brother Adams had been initiated into the Beta Nu Chapter in 1959 Brother
Hardy was initiated into the Alpha Mu Chapter at Lincoln University in 1959, also transferred to MU in the fall of 1960.
With five Kappa men on campus for the first time in 1960s, the stage was set to establish first African-American, Greekletter organization on MU’s campus. The five men established the first Diamond Club, which established a name on campus
by entering and promptly winning the intramural Independent League Basketball Championship.
Over the years, the chapter had a number of significant achievements. Delta Omega played a significant role in the
establishment of the Black Pan-Hellenic Council at the University of Missouri with Brother Gregory Dennis serving as its
first president. Shortly thereafter, in 1977, Brother Ivann Greene became the Junior Vice Polemarch of the Middlewestern
Province, a position to which Brother Jonathan P. Hicks was elected in 1978. And in one of the most notable events in the
chapter’s history, Founder Edward G. Irvin came to Delta Omega in 1979 and 1980 to serve as the speaker for Kappa Week
More recently, Brother Derrick Christian was elected in 2009 as a member of the Grand Board of Directors of the fraternity.
In the fall of 1978, five students at the University of Missouri-Rolla wrote the Delta Omega Chapter, stating that they
had a dream of Kappa Alpha Psi establishing a presence on the Rolla campus and asking if they could join the Fraternity by
pledging through Delta Omega.
Soon thereafter, those five students joined six students at the University of Missouri-Columbia to form K.S. Konquerers, and
were initiated into the bond, November 4, 1978.
Those five are considered as the founders of what would eventually become the Iota Omega Chapter. They were Robert F.
Henry Jr., Elihue Ackerson Jr., Wayne Hogue, Timothy Tilford and Mark A. Watson. The following semester, 10 students from
Rolla joined four students from Columbia to pledge together at Delta Omega. The 14 were initiated on March 17, 1979 and
took the line name, K.S.Krystallus.

For more than a year, the brothers functioned as one chapter that was merely split between the two cities. Brothers
routinely traveled the nearly 90 miles from one city to the other, attending functions at the two campuses and participating
in service projects, all the while developing a deep bond of brotherhood.
In late 1979, the 14 brothers in Rolla petitioned the Grand Chapter and were granted status as a chapter. They were to be
known as the Kappa Alpha Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi. However, to signal their strong ties with the Delta Omega Chapter,
the brothers contacted another soon-to-be-chartered chapter, at Illinois State University, and asked to switch the order
of the charterting dates so that the Rolla chapter would receive the designation, Iota Omega. The chapter was chartered
February 23, 1980.
With that, the Delta Omega/Iota Omega Konnection was formed. Over the ensuing years, a strong bond has been
maintained between the two chapters. Indeed, brothers from the one campus have transferred to the other, even serving
as officers of the chapter. They would also assist each other in the indoctrination of new members. The two chapters have
shared a mutual commitment to the traditions of the Fraternity, its songs, its commitment to service and to Achievement.

Iota Omega has gone on to win distinction from not only the Middle Western Province but from the Grand Chapter of Kappa
Alpha Psi. The chapter was selected as the Chapter of the Year nationally in 1986 and, in that same year, Murrell W. Blackburn
of Iota Omega became the recipient of the Fraternity’s Guy L. Grant Award, the highest undergraduate achievement award
in Kappa Alpha Psi. And, in 2009, Brother Julian Davenport had the distinction of serving as the Junior Vice Polemarch of the
Middlewestern Province.

KAPPA ALPHA PSI FRATERNITY, INC.
Kenneth C. Morgan is one of the most senior level African American officials in
Phoenix, where he serves as the water distribution superintendent for the City of
Phoenix and is responsible for the distribution system for the fifth largest city in
the country. Even though he experienced success in industry, there was a burning
desire within to reconnect with his spiritual roots. He became a minister of the
gospel and was ordained an elder in the early 1990s. He is currently the Assistant
Pastor of Word of Abundant Life Christian Center in Phoenix where he and his wife
of 20 years, Esther, are actively involved in the adding value to the lives of others.
They have three daughters and two grandchildren.

Minister Christopher Walls is a licensed minister through Mount Calvary Holy
Churches. He has preached God’s truth and will throughout the United States and
Europe and looks forward to taking the same to the four corners of the world.
Originally from Houston, Brother Walls was successfully involved in academics and
athletics and he lettered in football at the University of Missouri. After graduation,
he immediately began working for State Farm Insurance Companies in Minnesota.
He has worked for State Farm in several capacities in several different states. In
2003, he opened his independent State Farm agency in Hanover, MD. There he
became one of the leading producers for the organization. He, his wife, Sheila, and
three children live in Columbia, Mo., and attend Urban Empowerment Church.
Jerome Madison is an outstanding businessman and entrepreneur who lives in
Dallas. Brother Madison earned a full athletic scholarship to the University of
Missouri where he started all four years for the Missouri Tigers football team.
In addition to being an oncology sales director for Caris Life Sciences, he also
operates the NeoSoul Café, a multimedia company with two online radio stations
that stream soul music and hip-hop 24/7. He also co-produces, directs, and hosts a
music television show by the same name. He also operates a real estate company,
a modeling agency and several other ventures. Jerome and his wife Kimberley have
one daughter and they are expecting their second daughter September.
