Measure and cut piece of buckram appropriate to the brim size and
style, marking the front and back to keep track of the oval brim shape

Carefully cutout the buckram brim piece
Cut a couple inches extra so
you don’t end up short.
Measure out millinery wire to
go around the edge of the
brim
Carefully crimp the joiner to
the wire on one side only
Cut back the covering on the
wire to allow joiner to slip
onto the wire
Stitch the wire to the edge of the
buckram brim with a whip stitch or
blanket stitch leaving the back
open at least 3 to 4 inches to allow
easy joining of the wire ends
When ready measure the finishing length of the wire and cut off extra
Strip back the wire covering
and slip wire end into joiner
and carefully crimp joiner
closed
Brim is ready to cover with bias tape
Pull bias tape taut around the
brim edge and secure with pins
Use running stitch to secure bias tape, sewing through both sides at
outside edge of tape

Using taped brim edge measure out 2
fashion fabric brim coverings, no
seam allowance needed
Cut 2 brim coverings
Smooth and pin fabric to
center front, back and sides,
then smooth fabric taut at
biases,
Stitch one side at a time
Stitch one side of fashion

running stitch, this time close
to the outside edge
