President’s Message . . . Bruce Hinckley
Wow! What a view I had at the Annual Police Recognition Luncheon on May 12 th. To
stand at the podium and to look out over the 500 plus Police Officers, awardees,
politicians, Glendale College Trustees and Glendale citizens was truly an honor! The
Glendale Civic Auditorium never looked better decked out in white, blue and silver!
Our Annual Awards Luncheon honored our outstanding Police Officers and Police
Department Volunteers as well as the Glendale Community College Police
Department. None of this would have been possible without the generous support of
our Sponsors. To our Sponsors and to those of you who attended, thank you. For those of you that missed it,
please make sure to join us next year in May during National Police Appreciation Week. It is always a
special day to thank our Police Officers who serve us 24/7.
The Police Department’s Annual Open House on June 4th was a huge success. We had a record turnout from
the community! Over 1200 hot dogs were served by our Police Officers and they did it with a smile on their
faces. The community members also enjoyed tours of the police department and were able to visit many
displays of police equipment, including the police helicopter, police motorcycles, SWAT team gear and of
course the K9s.
This summer, be on the lookout for a big announcement: the launch of the Glendale Police Museum in the
lobby of the Police Station. Here you will see lots of pictures, samples of badges, uniforms, trivia and so
much more. Also, please save the date for the annual Glendale K9s in the Park on Saturday, October 22
from 10 am to 3 pm. Until next time, stay cool and have a fun, safe summer.

Our Chief’s Corner . . . Robert M. Castro
We are now well into 2016 and have reached some of our annual events such as the Unity Tour Bicycle Ride, the
Glendale Police Foundation Awards Luncheon and the GPD Open House Expo that was held on June 4th. Time after time, I am reminded at these events how lucky I am to be the Police Chief for one of the greatest police departments in the nation. What makes GPD so great is not just the men and women who work here, but it is the amazing
support from members of our community that really enable us to be who we are. It is really the dedication and
commitment from the GPD team, the Police Foundation members and our community partners who put in tireless
hours and make tremendous sacrifices that make these events such a success. This year, the Awards Luncheon was
completely different from what anyone in Glendale has experienced previously. The amount of work, effort and
energy that was put in by all that were involved truly marked this event as one to remember. I deeply appreciate
the committees that made this event so memorable. Our second annual Open House Expo was a huge success. The day was hot and the visitors
were double the number of last year. The GPOA cooked and served over 1,200 hotdogs! As I met residents throughout the day, all I heard
were words of thanks for the outstanding work done by every member of our police department. Many asked how they could become a part
of our special organization as either volunteers or employees. I am so very proud of the dedication, support and exemplary work that make
the Glendale Police Department an extraordinary organization and the envy of many. Thank you again for all who worked and supported
our event. The community and I greatly appreciate your sacrifices. We are halfway through the year and there are still many challenges that
face law enforcement and specifically the Glendale Police Department. As an organization, we accept challenges as they are inevitable.
However, I am convinced with the dedication of our employees and with the support of our community, we will overcome these obstacles and
continue making Glendale one of the safest cities in the nation.
Message from Chief Robert Castro - Passing of K-9 Branko
Memorial Tribute: http://bit.ly/28SVJKx
We are saddened to announce that Glendale Police K9 “Branko” passed
away on Sunday, June 19, 2016 from a medical condition at the age of seven. Branko has been assigned to handler Alex Rolando since February 2012.
Branko was a seasoned and experienced veteran, assisting the Glendale
Police Department to track down and apprehend some of the worst criminals
to enter our city. Branko was cross-trained in narcotics detection and helped
locate record amounts of narcotics and hundreds of thousands of dollars in
U.S. currency. His tireless efforts helped ensure the safety of not only our
community but our officers as well. We thank him for his dedication to Alex
and his service to our department and our community.

2016 Torch Run For the Tri-Valley Special Olympics
Glendale Police Department personnel participated in the 5.5 mile Law Enforcement Special Olympic Torch Run, joined by Tri-Valley Special Olympics and The
Campbell Center, to raise awareness and funding for the Special Olympics. This
was the final leg before the Annual Summer Games were held June 11th - 12th at
California State University, Long Beach. During the run, officers raise awareness
and funds for the more than 22,323 athletes of Special Olympics Southern California. They also educate the community about the gifts, talents and abilities of people with intellectual disabilities and promote unity & respect for all.
Tip A Cop Fundraiser
For the Tri-Valley Special Olympics
Police Chief Robert Castro, Mayor Paula
Devine, and the Torch Run Participants.
Law Enforcement give a whole new meaning to "protect and serve" at
Tip-A-Cop fundraisers. Officers serve as celebrity waiters at
restaurants & donate all the tips they receive to Special Olympics.
Thank you Town Kitchen & Grill in Montrose for allowing GPD to serve.
Drink. Drive. Go to Jail.
Thanks to the generous donation from Vrej Sarkissian,
