Together with SES
Building a
connected Africa
A new Africa
Africa’s long-term growth will increasingly reflect
interrelated social and demographic changes
creating new domestic engines of growth. Key
among these will be urbanisation, an expanding
labour force, and the rise of the African middleclass consumer. In 1980, just 28% of Africans lived
in cities. Today, 40% of the continent’s one billion
people live in cities. By 2030, this share is projected
to rise to 50%, and Africa’s top 18 cities will have a
combined annual spending power of $1.3 trillion.

“All human beings are essentially alike.
Africa may still be seen as a developing
market, but people here demand the same
level of service with solutions that meet
their needs, at the best possible price.”
- Ibrahima Guimba-Saidou, Senior VP for Africa, SES.
The next frontier
With a maturing television audience, the world’s fastest growing mobile
market and rich mineral resources, Africa has become the focus point
for direct foreign investment. Media and Broadcasters from around
the world need digital media content delivered directly to homes
across Africa. Telcos and Enterprises are looking for efficient, reliable
and cost-efficient ways to meet the needs of their customers. Whilst
Governments in Africa need a partner to provide vital communication
links for security, defence, civil and industry projects suited to their
unique environments.
They all need a global trusted partner who understands Africa, and has
the expertise and solutions to take their business even further.

Grow via satellite
Empowering your installers
SES is dedicated to the African continent, with
local offices and regional knowledge to make
sure you connect with more viewers, no matter
where they are. We also hold specialised training
programmes for installers and broadcasters and
bigger, knowledge sharing workshops, designed
to build local expertise in the media and
broadcasting industry across the continent.
The Elevate training programme was born out of a need to complement satellite and digital
television roll-out on the African continent with quality installations by well-trained installers. This SES
initiative has already held training programmes in South Africa, Nigeria, Ghana, Senegal, Cameroon,
Ivory Coast, Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, benefitting local business
growth across the digital broadcasting environment in Africa.
Sharing our knowledge
Working closely with African regulators, government agencies, broadcasters and network operators,
our aim is to assist as many countries as possible with a successful digital migration by the
2015 deadline. SES Caravans have visited 14 countries since November 2011 with more than 700
participants. And this is just the beginning.
Working in Africa, for Africa
SES operates three regional offices with local teams in South Africa, Ghana and Ethiopia, as well
as two teleport networks in Ghana and Djibouti. Our network offers in-country knowledge from an
African perspective, bringing hassle-free connectivity to your country. Another sign of our commitment
to growth on the African continent are our one-of-a-kind workshops and training programmes.
