A Dallas tablescape stylist rewrites romance by mixing a traditional hue with bold metallics | By Carla Jordan | Photography by Justin Clemons | Pink is back in the spotlight for fall as a haute hue for bridal gatherings when paired with a surprising pick from the design color box—metallics. “In the past, romantic tablescapings have been safe and sweet, but today’s take is chic, daring and bold because designers are using a collaboration of pink monochromatic tones and metallics,” says Jordan Payne of Jordan Payne Events. “When I think romance, I see pink and nothing enhances it more than metallic tones.” Spin the Color Wheel Bronze, gold and platinum decadently play off rosy tones that range from white pink to coral pink. “These gold and metallic accents add depth and drama,” notes Payne. “They enhance the pinks and create a rich design that’s appealing to the eye.” In this instance, pink is used as a secondary color in the palette with touches of white and ivory mixed in to soften and give the tablescape some visual breathing room. Delve into Details Color, pattern and texture play equal roles in this look. Everything from bridesmaids dresses to table linens can be in beautiful metallic tones with pink as that romantic pop off the shimmering shades. “We’re seeing an extensive use of pattern and intricate detailing in both linens and china—these are not just a simple satin cloth or basic white china,” adds Payne. “Linens, in particular, have a near couture look with touches of rhinestone and beadwork throughout which really grabs the eye. There are beautiful silhouettes created by charger plates.” Texture comes into play in everything from flowers and chargers to linens. “The use of texture is involved in all aspects of this tablescape design,” notes Payne. “It adds character, style and richness.” Give a Gift Take-home favors provide a tangible memory of the event and this tablescape features a stunner—vintage brooches. “What better way for guests to remember your wedding than with a brooch they can wear as a glamorous accessory for years to come?” 32 FA L L / W I N T E R 2 010 The Wow Factor Pulling the look together to create drama is easy, according to Payne. “Move away from the structured and simple look and go for a floral design with fullness and depth. This can be created by using several different types of lush flowers.” Then, factor in the size and number of pieces. “For a large gathering, maybe ramp up the number of centerpieces. For a lengthy head table, create four or five centerpieces and, in between, have some smaller, similar ones. This is a look that designers love because it elongates the table and creates several focal points.” To tie in guest tables around the room, includes designs of the same flowers with highs and lows that create visual balance. 2633 McKinney Ave. #130, Ste. 206, 214.577.5880 or jordanpayneevents.com Clockwise from top: The centerpiece’s exaggerated height adds instant drama; pink, silver and bronze metallics give just the right punch of color; bronze votives provide contrast next to clear stemware.
