Welcome to Axis Lounge in the heart of the Royal Sonesta Hotel
Welcome to Axis Lounge
in the heart of the Royal Sonesta Hotel Houston!
The venue’s name hints to science and a convergence of people and
ideas, while also referencing the hotel’s position at the axis of many
of Houston’s top business and leisure attractions.
The international influence and diversity of our guests and our team
is evident in a small plates menu and curated beverage program that
focus on the theme of discovery, apropos for a city whose economy
has long been linked to shipping, and the exploration of energy,
health and space.
At Axis Lounge, culinary choices span continents. Our acclaimed,
German-born chef, Peter Laufer, who has honed his skills in kitchens
from Scandinavia and South America to the Caribbean and Canada, is
known for playfully mixing, matching and presenting cultural references
true to our belief that “Food is Art”. And while the flavor combinations
may span thousands of miles, the seasonally shifting ingredients are
often sourced from as nearby as the hotel’s own garden, or just minutes
away at any number of the city’s many ethnic markets or the bountiful
waterways, farms and ranches of Texas.
Axis provides a refreshing alternative to the everyday with a specialty
cocktail menu that reinforces Royal Sonesta’s focus on “liquid art”.
You can whet your appetite by navigating multiple paths: Innovative
Celebrations featuring farm or garden fresh products, Contemporary
Classics that provide A xis Lounge’s riff on infamous libations from
cities around the world and Deconstructed Discoveries, that create an
interactive element by allowing you to shake, muddle or stir your own
Mojito, Margarita or Garden & Tonic tableside to taste with an array
of accoutrements.
Wines will also stray from the ordinary focusing on two dozen changing
red and white varieties not typically found in retail stores, while beer
selections will emphasize smaller local, domestic and international
craft batches.

“Too much of anything is bad, but too much
good whiskey is barely enough.”
Mark Twain
There is beauty in the color of brown spirits as distillation produces
congeners that determine aroma and taste, and the process of aging
in oak barrels adds the final touches. All that is needed is your nose
and your palate to render it a work of art.
