His father, Fabio, used to take part in karting races for several
years; he even competed in the European Championship with
excellent results. Then he tried car racing with sports prototypes in
the Hill -Climb Championship. His grandfather, Giorgio, built and ran
the old kart track at Ampugnano and is now running the new track of
the Siena Circuit, at Castelnuovo Berardenga; with such relatives
Mirko Torsellini could not help becoming a driver.
When he was four, Mirko experienced the thrill of speed for the first
time with a small kart, expressly designed for him by his grandfather.
It is a path many great car racing champions have trodden before,
above all Michael Schumacher and his brother Ralf, grown up in the
family track of Kerpen. Mirko‟s goal is to become a professional
driver, and he seems to be of good stuff to achieve great results!
2009 was a turning point for Mirko. It was the year of his début
in the world of car racing in the Italian Championship of Formula
Azzurra – Michele Alboreto Trophy, as official driver of the
Minardi Team by Corbetta Competition. He achieved three
important podiums: two third places at Vallelunga and a second
place at Varano, a double pole position at Vallelunga, the tenth place
in the final ranking of the championship and a series of terrific
results, with a special mention for his fourth place in the „shrine‟ of car racing at Monza. In the meanwhile,
Mirko kept on driving karts, taking part in important races of the KZ2 European Championship, of the WSK
International Series and of the Open Masters Italian Championship.
In 2010 Mirko‟s experience in car racing continued with his participation in the new Aci-Csai Formula
Abarth Championship with the MG Motorsport team. It was an important season which allowed the young
driver from Siena to improve his driving techniques on a performing open wheel car such as the Formula
Abarth, and to compete with more experienced drivers. His results were encouraging, and he always
managed to qualify for the finals. In the same time, Mirko kept on driving in karting, taking part in several
national races and in one event of the KZ2 European Championship. At the end of the season, the CRG
Official Team asked him to join, and with his new team he successfully ran the events of the WSK World
Series in Sharm El Sheikh and the Nations Cup of Muro Leccese.
MIRKO TORSELLINI‟S SPORTS EXPERIENCES
In 2000, at the age of seven, Mirko took part in his first competitions with kids of his age on the karting
track of Siena, at Ampugnano, near the site of the new airport. However, his first official national race was
on the 26th November 2001, 50 Baby Class. Obviously, he is one of the first drivers to test the new
karting track of Siena, built and run by his grandfather together with his father. The new track substitutes
the old track of Ampugnano. On the new track of Siena, Mirko kept on experiencing karting racing and took
part in his first national championships.
At the age of nine, in 2002, Mirko joined the 60 Mini Class. He competed in the Regional Championship
and in the Final of the National Trophy. In this class he achieved twelve wins, competed in three Italian
Championships (2002, 2003 and 2004) and in two editions of the Trofeo Nazionale Industrie of Parma. He
arrived in third at the 2 Ore International Bridgestone in France. In 2004 he won the Regional
Championship 60 Mini Class of Tuscany.
In 2005, Mirko joined the 100 Junior Class, a higher class; in this class he competed in the Regional
Championship. Between 2005 and 2006 he gained 14 first places and in 2005 he won the 100 Junior
2
Class Regional Championship of Tuscany. He took part in two Italian Championships, always getting to
the finals with a third place as best result. He was finalist in the Final Europe Bridgestone Cup and in the
Trofeo delle Industrie at Parma. He got two wins in the International Trophy of Siena.
In 2007, Mirko competed for the first time in the new international class KF3, with the New Team Karting,
official team of Birel Motorsport. He took part in the Andrea Margutti Trophy, in the International Open
Masters, in the qualifying practice of Central Europe in the Czech Republic at Sosnova (22 nd), in the Final of
the European Championship KF3 at Sarno, in the European Final at Lonato of the Bridgestone Cup
(3rd place), in the Trofeo delle Industrie at Parma (6th) and in the El Vendrell in Spain (8th).
In 2008 he was still in the KF3 class. He took part in the Winter Cup at Lonato (16th), in the Andrea
Margutti Trophy at Parma, in the Open Masters (5th at Lonato), in the International Championship WSK
International Series (12th at Sarno), in the qualifying practice of the KF3 European Championship. At the end
of the season he drove for the first time in the most performing class, the KZ2, in the two heats of the
Winter Tournament of Sant‟Egidio alla Vibrata (Teramo). Still in 2008, on the 8th September, he joined the
course of the Federal School CSAI of Vallelunga, passing the test driving a Formula Azzurra and a
Formula Renault.
In 2009, he had to deal with his double commitment in karting and car racing. In car racing he competed in
the Italian Championship of Formula Azzurra – Michele Alboreto Trophy, with the Minardi Team by Corbetta
Competition. To his asset three important podiums, two third places to Vallelunga and a second place to
Varano, a double pole position still to Vallelunga and a series of results in growing among which a good
quarter position to Monza with the tenth place in final ranking of championship.

Torsellini on the second place step; on the right Giancarlo Minardi, former Formula 1 team manager and
talent scout of many drivers, such as Alessandro Nannini, and now looking for young talents for the
Federation.
This is Minardi‟s comment on Mirko Torsellini: „The season for Mirko Torsellini has been getting
better and better. He has showed to be fast and tough. In some occasions he lacked in
experience and he didn‟t manage to get the points he needed for the Championship, but my
final judgment on him can‟t be but a positive one for a just 16 year old guy. After this period of
3
training, Torsellini will be doubtlessly the protagonist of the next Formula Azzurra
Championship.‟
Driving his kart, Mirko managed to make himself conspicuous in several occasions: in the KZ2 European
Championship, in the WSK International Series and in the Open Masters Italian Championship. His win in the
International Trophy City of Siena in the KZ2 category was outstanding.
2010. In 2010, Mirko Torsellini took part in the new Formula Abarth Italian championship, Michele Alboreto
Trophy, driving the new open wheel car Tatuus, with the MG Motorsport Team.
It was a rather tricky season, mainly because of a brand new open wheel car which required to be closely
assisted by the team in search of the perfect set up.
However, Mirko Torsellini achieved good performances in the races he took part in, competing with more
than forty other drivers, many of them with a good deal of experience. Despite that, Mirko managed to do
very well in several occasions, for instance when he achieved the overall seventh time in the qualifying time
trial in Varano. With five races run, he eventually placed 22th in the general ranking.
Before the racing season ended, Mirko Torsellini was asked to race for the CRG Official Team.
CRG is one of the leading companies of karting in the world and they wanted Mirko for a
commitment in competitions of international level.
The agreement provides for Mirko‟s participation in CRG‟s official schedule for 2011 in the KZ2 category –
kart with gears - , where the Italian company can boast numberless European and World titles.
The first engagement was fulfilled at the end of 2010 with Mirko‟s participation in the event of the World
Championship in Sharm El Sheikh (Egypt), where Mirko arrived fourth, and the Nations Cup of Muro Leccese.

team for a busy international schedule which started at the end of 2010
2011. In 2011 Mirko Torsellini will be focusing mainly on karting with the CRG Official Team,
leaving momentarily aside his commitment in car racing. In 2011 the CRG Official Team
schedule provides for his participation in KZ2 in the European Championship and in the World
Cup, besides the WSK Euro Series and other prestigious international races.
