NTC Road Trip?,
GoodGuys,
December year end wrap up lunch,
stay tuned for info.
August 1968 ( 40 years ago ), marks the beginning of the 1969 Camaro production. The
longest production run of the first generation Camaros, it actually ran into 1970. Have you
seen a 1970 Camaro that is the first generation styling? So it is only fitting that the 2010
Camaro that is due to begin production February 2009 would take some styling cues from
the older brother the 1969. So if you can't find the 1969 Camaro you have been looking for,
go out and buy a 2010 Camaro. Specifications list engine combinations from V-6 to LS-3
with 6 speed manual transmissions as an option. There will be an SS option that looks to be
the high end on the production lists. Let's see, one member said the LS-3 with a Vortec type
super charger would click off about 500 h.p. Can you handle that? You can't handle the
Truth ( I had to do that from... Jack Nicholson ).
We had zero response on the club calendar request, so we will not pursue a NTC calendar.
I need some more feature cars, let me know if you are interested in
being the feature car in the monthly newsletter.
Let's Roll On in 2008.

Featured Car Questionnaire
Phil Purvis' 69 Camaro
How did you acquire the car?
A great guy in NTCC referred me to David Wright who was selling his completed project car. My then 14 year old son and I had
been Camaro shopping for over 6 months. Test driving here and there. Mostly locating cars via EBAY (now I would use
Craigslist too). I was originally looking for a daily driver thinking that is what I wanted. Budget wise it fit a lot better. My son and
I got to try out all kinds of Camaros. When we saw this car, we knew this was it! Now we have a great weekend cruiser that we
enjoy tremendously.
During the search, we tried EBAY purchases gone bad when a Dad bought his 16 year old son a hopped up Camaro and said, “if
you get any speeding tickets we sell it”. Well it only took 3 months for 2 tickets in that car. It was the only car that I looked at
where the oil did not touch the dipstick. There was one really hot Camaro that I test drove and it’s the only time in my life I felt
like the Taz! I jumped on it a little then the blasted stop light turned red. Well I started pressing on the brakes and the car did not
slow down much. So I put both feet down and prayed a lot. It did come to a stop halfway into the intersection.
I was getting frustrated after driving cars about every 2 weeks and always wondering “How did they get that angle on the car to
make it look good?” I finally wised up and checked out the local Camaro club, you guys! That great guy immediately took me
under his wing and gave me all kinds of advice. He also sensed my frustration and told me “Be patient, the car you want is out
there.”
How long have you owned the car?
Since October 24, 2002. A great ending to a mostly fun car hunt.
Anything interesting happen during your acquisition or ownership of the car?
The only funny thing was in dealing with a slow drain on the battery. I had to jump the car once and apparently blew a fuse. The
car started up, but as I was driving when I used the turn signals, the engine would almost die as the signal flashed. Putting it in
reverse killed the engine (the backup lights). I “fixed” the problem by replacing the fuse, buying an Optima battery, and getting a
quick disconnect battery cable.
What would you do differently with the car?
Nothing. I was wanting a ready made car that would not need major maintenance for a couple of years. Well
no major maintenance and it has been almost 4 years. But I do want to add some gauges at some point.
Any company or service that deserves high praise for helping with your car?
Fern Duron! Did you guess right? I was really impressed that here’s this guy who does not know me from Adam. Yet he’s spending all this time answering my thousands of questions. I finally got to the breaking point and Fern calmly said to be patient and to
send him a description of my ideal car. I don’t know how he did it, but somehow David Wright’s car became available and Fern
connected me. Thank you Fern!
And then I met all the other members of the club and realized there were even more nice guys and gals. And yes, as a club we
have the great privilege of having some very unique individuals as well. Also at the very beginning of my classic car hunt, I told a
friend in New Jersey, “Maybe I should be practical and just buy a new gas minder car.” My friend said “#1 No one is going to
give that car a second look in any parking lot. #2 You will not enjoy the drive!”. Boy was he right!
Note: a lot of the parts from David’s restoration came from Firewheel Classics
