ABOUT THE GOLD COAST
ABOUT THE GOLD COAST
Why the Gold Coast?
Passionate about our city, we believe there’s
no better place to host business events.
Here are just some of the reasons why...…
Golden Support
A passion for realising the unimaginable drives an elite team of
business event experts known as the Gold Coast Convention
Bureau (GCCB). With an infinite knowledge of the Gold Coast and
all it offers, GCCB provides a range of complimentary services to
ensure that all of your objectives are exceeded. From hosted city
familiarisation visits with event organisers, through to a wealth
of co-operative marketing strategies, our team is dedicated to
creating a superbly organised, unforgettable event.
Impressive Accommodation
With over 65,000 bed spaces on offer, the Gold Coast has
accommodation options to suit every budget and style.
International hotels, beachfront resorts, self-contained
apartments, motels, hostels, mountain cabins, bed and
breakfasts, rainforest hideaways, health retreats and farm-stays;
accommodation in our coastal city could easily be one of the
most impressive elements of your event.
Proven Experience
The Gold Coast knows how to put on a show. Award winning
chefs, wildlife warriors, motivational experts, musicians, dancers,
actors, passionate performers and marketing magnates grace the
many events held across our city with their expertise and talent.
Experience is why the Gold Coast has been listed in the top three
Asia Pacific resort destinations for meetings and incentives for
more than five consecutive years. It’s also the reason why we are
the home of leading Australian and International business events.
Affordability
While we’re Australia’s sixth largest city, on the Gold Coast
we don’t suffer from the inflated costs of capital cities. We
pride ourselves on offering highly competitive rates for
accommodation, dining, venues and attractions.
Sustainable Events
The Gold Coast is synonymous with indulgence, but we’re also
focused on sustainability. GCCB works closely with local venues
and suppliers to develop environmentally-friendly solutions for
business events.
1
Why the Gold Coast?
SUBTROPICAL CLIMATE
Business Community
Our name says it all. The ‘Gold Coast’ is a city touched by gold
with a mild subtropical climate delivering blue skies almost
year round. With more than 300 days of sunshine every year,
delegates enjoy wonderfully mild winters, warm autumns and
springs and sun-drenched summers. By its very nature, our
climate is a source of pure energy and inspiration for delegates.
The Gold Coast is synonymous with fun, but we also have
a serious side. Our region is home to a thriving business
community and influential industry sectors such as health and
medical, environmental science, as well as creative industries.
The Gold Coast’s diverse business community is where some
of the country’s most influential experts call home.
High Delegate Attendance
State-of-the-Art Venues
The Gold Coast enjoys some of Australia’s most impressive
delegate statistics. Delegates visiting the Gold Coast spend an
average of 4.5 days in the region, which is more than any other
destination in Queensland. There’s no doubt that delegates love
coming to the Gold Coast, and it’s where serious business is done.
The Gold Coast is home to a diverse range of state-of-the-art
conference venues. With purpose-built meeting space around
every corner, delegates have the choice of meeting in our
world-class Convention Centre, inside our city’s international
hotels and resorts or even venturing outside to our spectacular
offsite event spaces.
One-of-a-kind Programs
The Gold Coast is famous for an unrivalled range of entertainment
and attractions. With the likes of seven of Australia’s best theme
parks, over 40 international standard or championship golf
courses, 600 restaurants and cafés and an abundance of natural
and cultural wonders, we boast an almost limitless range of
possibilities for creating spectacularly unique events.
EASY ACCESS
Getting to the Gold Coast couldn’t be easier, with two impressive
international airports close by that service all major Australian
cities, as well as effortless road access from Queensland’s
capital, Brisbane. The Gold Coast Airport is just 30 minutes drive
from the centre of Surfers Paradise and the Brisbane Domestic
and International Airport is less than one hour’s drive.

Intimate meetings to gala events
Think-tanks to reward programs
Understated elegance to absolute extravagance

10 Ways to Discover the Gold Coast
Relaxation Therapy
Theme Park Challenge
For some, the opportunity to truly relax is very rarely a reality. The
Gold Coast’s inner city day spas, hinterland therapy centres and
rainforest health retreats create sanctuaries of ancient remedies
and advanced beauty and relaxation treatments.
Home to the southern hemisphere’s fastest, tallest and longest
theme park rides, the Gold Coast makes having an extraordinary
experience as simple as choosing which park to play in first. Skyhigh waterslides, superhero inspired rollercoasters and fun for the
smallest adventurers. Welcome to Australia’s theme park capital.
Make a Splash
More than 55 kilometres of continuous beaches, an expansive
Broadwater and an ocean full of life, make up some of the
Gold Coast’s most internationally renowned assets. Experience
them by catching your first wave, kayaking to a tropical island,
snorkelling or diving over coral reefs or flying across the surface
on a jet ski or jet boat adventure.
Walk the Walk
Amongst the Gold Coast’s 100,000 hectares of forest there are
short walks, lookouts and waterfalls that inspire with a raw beauty
only found in nature. The Gold Coast Hinterland Great Walk is a
three day journey through ancient rainforests while the Tamborine
Rainforest Skywalk takes walkers into the rainforest canopy.
Up In The Air
Up Close and Furry
The Gold Coast’s stunning diversity of landscapes is most easily
visible from the sky, and our city offers a heady array of ways
to get up, up and away. A sunrise hot air balloon ride is a serene
experience, a flight in a traditional tiger moth plane will give you
goose bumps and a visit to SkyPoint in one of the world’s tallest
residential towers will delight.
Take a morning walk with a Bengal Tiger, get a behind-the-scenes
view of a polar bear habitat, cuddle a koala, soar above crocodile
wetlands on a flying fox or spot wild platypus in a river. There are
just as many ways to get up close and personal with amazing
animals as there are native and exotic creatures on the Gold
Coast.
Make Tracks
Fashion Fix
On two, three or four wheels there are plenty of opportunities to
make tracks on the Gold Coast. A classically cool tour on a Harley
Davidson or the next generation style Segway? A hinterland trek
on a quad bike or a hot lap in a V8 Supercar? The choice is yours.
Take home a fashionable souvenir of your Gold Coast experience.
Choose from discount outlets, local and farmers’ markets,
expansive malls, unique local boutiques, high-end international
brands or even hire a personal stylist to make your shopping
experience complete.
Eat, Drink and Be Merry
Dining could easily be one of the most memorable ways for you
to discover the Gold Coast. Cafés, restaurants and bars line the
city’s beaches, streets and dot the hinterland with the flavours of
modern Australian cuisine and international feasts. Follow the
Gold Coast Food and Wine Trail to uncover the unexpected in
local gourmet food and wine.
Swinging Good Time
The Gold Coast is a golfer’s paradise. There are over 40
international standard or championship golf courses within 40
minutes drive of the city centre. Some of them are the setting
for international Pro competitions, dedicated training and skills
centres, colonial clubhouses and endless days on the golf course.

Practical Information
LANGUAGE
Safety
English is the primary spoken language on the Gold Coast.
Translation services and multi-lingual tour guides are readily
available and Telstra’s Foreign Language Service offers phone
assistance in a variety of languages. Telstra’s translation services
can be accessed on the following telephone numbers:
Sun protection is recommended all year round, even on cloudy
days. Hats, collared shirts and high-protection sunscreen are
suggested. Hinterland areas may be cooler or wetter than the
coast. We recommend you carry a jacket or raincoat as well
as comfortable walking shoes for any national park or farm
excursions. When visiting the beach be sure to follow the
instructions of surf lifesavers or lifeguards. Always swimming
between the red and yellow flags will help ensure you stay safe.
If you feel like you are in trouble, raise one arm and wait for a surf
lifesaver or lifeguard to assist you.

Australia is a politically stable democracy with a strong economy.
Additionally, the Gold Coast has a low crime rate and no history
of international terrorist activity. Visitors feel quite comfortable
walking around the city’s streets day or night and find local
residents very willing to help when asked. At the same time,
all travellers are advised to adopt a common sense approach
to personal safety. Increased global security measures require
more stringent luggage checks and regulations at domestic and
international airports. For further information visit casa.gov.au

Passports and visas
Dialling codes and communications
All visitors entering Australia need a valid passport and an
Australian visa or Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) if not an
Australian citizen.

telephone cards are available for use with mobile and fixed line

applicant holds determines whether that applicant can apply
online or by using a paper-based application.
Applicants who are eligible to apply online can usually apply for
an eVisitor (Business Stream) visa.
If you do not hold a passport approved for online application,
‘label’ visas can be obtained from Australian embassies, high
commission offices or consulates.
Assistance is available to organisers through the Event

Finding the right venue, supplier or product

Coast venues, products and services. Then, source proposals
based on your business event brief from Gold Coast hotels,
venues, activity operators, tour operators and attractions to assist
with your selection process.
Better bidding
Some events require a destination to submit their interest as a
host in advance. While this aims at equipping event organisers
with comprehensive information in order to make a decision it can
often be a long and arduous process.
The Gold Coast Convention Bureau has a team dedicated to
creating detailed bid documents that deliver all the requested
information clearly and completely. In fact, our bidding process
begins by establishing a close working partnership with event
organisers to fully understand their needs.
Each bid is different, however the following standardised format
demonstrates how the Gold Coast takes business events from
average to excellent.
1. Research the company or association and the history of
the event and ensure the destination can meet the
required criteria.
2. Form a local organising committee who are dedicated to
bringing the event to the city.
3. Put together the bid document.
4. Host a city inspection.
5. Make the final presentation to the association’s board.
6. Once the bid is won, help the association and local
organising committee to develop the event. Part of this
service includes the appointment of a PCO (Professional
Conference Organiser) and sourcing of venue proposals.

Meeting on the Gold Coast?
here’s a big incentive
your time.
Osaka
Tokyo
Flying direct to Gold Coast Airport means less time travelling and more time enjoying your
next conference or event. Situated only metres from the beach and a leisurely 20 minute drive
to Broadbeach and the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre, it’s the ideal gateway to
a Gold Coast conference or event. A range of ground transfer options
are available including a bus bay for group collection.
Over 350 direct flights every week to the Gold Coast from
across Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Singapore and Malaysia.

Turning Gold to Green
Green events are at home on the Gold Coast. Reducing the
carbon footprint of your event or incentive program is a matter of
making good decisions. Not sure where to start? The Gold Coast
Convention Bureau works closely with suppliers to develop green
solutions for every aspect of an event.
GREEN ACCOMMODATION
The hotels and resorts in this destination work hard to protect
the Gold Coast’s title as Australia’s most biodiverse city. These
establishments routinely employ water conservation and
chemical use reduction practices.
However, an elite collection of accommodation has been
certified by Ecotourism Australia for its ability to provide authentic
environmentally-friendly accommodation. Eco-certified Gold
Coast accommodation options include:

Binna Burra Mountain Lodge
•
Tangalooma Island Resort

O’Reilly’s Rainforest Retreat
ECO ACCREDITED TOURS
There is an almost limitless variety of ways to experience the
Gold Coast’s natural bounty. However, certain tour operators
have taken their commitment to keeping green to the next
level. Whether you’re searching for a casual and informative
environmental walk, a tour into a cave illuminated by thousands
of glow worms or an exploration of the world’s oldest rainforest
you can eco tour the Gold Coast.
GREEN INCENTIVES
There are few things that are as humbling or inspiring as
discovering the power and beauty of Australia’s natural
environment. Rewarding your delegates with an eco-friendly
incentive program, pre or post tour or partner plan is simple. Watch
your team work together to complete a series of challenges from
which they earn saplings. The team is ultimately rewarded by
planting those saplings in a final ceremony.
GREEN LEISURE
GREEN VENUES
Discover Australia’s natural flora and fauna and connect with the
country’s ancient Aboriginal culture on one of the city’s dynamic
and environmentally-conscious tours. Eco tours don’t stop with a
walk in the park. The Gold Coast’s eco offerings include adrenalin
action, educational programs or indulgent attractions. Gold Coast
eco tours are engaging, entertaining and, most importantly, green.
The carbon footprint of your event can be dramatically reduced
by choosing an environmentally-focused venue. On Australia’s
Gold Coast venue operators are as passionate about creating
spectacular events as they are about protecting the city’s unique
natural offerings. The Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition
Centre (GCCEC) was one of the first meeting facilities in
Australia to achieve the prestigious EarthCheck Certified Silver
status. Operated by EC3 Global, the Earthcheck benchmarking
and certification program recognises the world’s highest
environmental standards in use by the travel and tourism industry.
The GCCEC operates at the following environmental efficiencies:
GREEN TRANSPORT
The Gold Coast City Council delivers numerous policies and
programs that enable conference planners and delegates to
make green transport a part of their event. The city’s public
transport network is extensive and easy to use.
•
Water saving rating is 9.4 points better than the EarthCheck Best Practice level

Waste recycling rating is 8.9 points better than the EarthCheck Best Practice level

Extraordinary Experiences
An incredible array of unique venues and
once-in-a-lifetime experiences guarantee
glittering incentive, social and partner programs.
TROPICAL ISLAND ESCAPE
Make a dinner date with a difference and have your delegates
indulge in a private evening at the picturesque McLaren’s Landing.

dinners under the stars, complemented by a luxurious cruise home,
your delegates are guaranteed to be wowed!
AUSSIE OUTBACK SPECTACULAR
A night at the Australian Outback Spectacular is where your
delegates will experience some of the country’s best horsemen
and women. Be transported to Australia’s outback, while enjoying a
three-course dinner and live stage show in the custom-built-worldclass arena.
BREAKFAST WITH DOLPHINS
Sea World’s Dolphin Lagoon is a spectacular place to start the day,
and after a delicious buffet breakfast, your delegates can splash
around with a dolphin in the shallow water experience. Or, sit back,
relax and watch these majestic animals dazzle your group with a
deep water interactive experience which includes bows, hugs and
full water movement.
DINNER WITH TIGERS
For a memorable (and adrenalin pumping) experience, try a group
dinner with the tigers. Your delegates will experience an entertaining
presentation while dining just metres from rare Bengal and
Sumatran tigers. Delegates will be able to feel what it’s like to pat
the tigers, while the handlers can answer any questions.
DINNER IN THE RAINFOREST

Australia’s Aboriginal people marks the beginning of a spectacular
dining experience. As candlelight twinkles under the rainforest
canopy, your group will enjoy an evening of champagne and
canapés amongst a 50,000 year old cultural setting.

Venues and Accommodation
The city’s purpose built meeting and convention spaces can be found in international hotels and resorts, as well as the renowned
Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre. Whether you are seeking a hotel or resort that can house your entire delegation, or an
accommodation option that will offer a distinctive experience in its own right, you will find a perfect place for delegates to rest their
heads on the Gold Coast. The vast majority of the city’s accommodation, venues and leisure activities are all located within 40 minutes
of the city centre.
