Lesson Learned
Recently, members of the Class of 2015 learned how the Annual Fund and Tuition Assistance programs benefit
the students of Subiaco. The seniors then enjoyed the opportunity to personally call donors and express their
gratitude for the contributions which help make their education at Subiaco Academy so special. They shared excitement about the achievements of the school year and the various projects taking place on campus.
The Subiaco experience creates a sense of community which is a reflection of Catholic Benedictine traditions of
service to God, respect for self and others, mutual support and the value of work. Over the last 128 years, Subiaco
Academy has worked to expand our programs and build on our rich tradition. We rely on the generosity of alumni,
parents and friends for support to continue our mission.
The Annual Fund and Tuition Assistance programs are both avenues used to serve those families who come to us
seeking opportunities for their sons. Though ongoing, we have already reached 86% of the $250,000 goal for the
Annual Fund and 96% of the $175,000 goal for Tuition Assistance. We reach out to you to continue helping the
Subiaco family. Your generosity will make a difference by allowing us to continue investing in our students, teachers
and facilities. Visit www.subiacoacademy.us/academy-annual-fund to make your gift today or contact the Subiaco
Development Department at 479-934-1001. Thank you!
From the Rule of Saint Benedict
“Therefore we intend to establish a school for the Lord’s service. In drawing up its regulations, we hope to set down nothing harsh,
nothing burdensome. The good of all concerned, however, may prompt us to a little strictness in order to amend faults and to safeguard
love. Do not be daunted immediately by fear and run away from the road that leads to salvation. It is bound to be narrow at the outset. But as we progress in this way of life and in faith, we shall run on the path of God’s commandments, our hearts overflowing with
the inexpressible delight of love. Never swerving from his instructions, then, but faithfully observing his teaching in the monastery
until death, we shall through patience share in the sufferings of Christ that we may deserve also to share in his kingdom. Amen.”
(Prologue 45-50)
Because we are at the end of the school year and this will be my last commentary until August, I thought it would
be appropriate to revisit the Prologue of the Rule. This last section of the Prologue is a wonderful reminder that
our disciplines of work, prayer and study are not meant to be “burdensome or harsh” but rather are meant to
bring us closer to God and to the promise of his kingdom. --Deacon Roy Goetz (Academy Chaplain)
