Caroline Bayer beschäftigt sich in ihrer Arbeit mit urbanen, architektonischen und
geografischen Versatzstücken, die ihr in ihrer Umgebung begegnen. Dabei interessiert
sie sich weniger für Auffälliges, sondern widmet ihre Aufmerksamkeit den alltäglichen,
zweckmäßigen Formen urbaner Landschaft. In Gebäudeansichten, Landkarten und
Grundrissen entdeckt die Künstlerin Formen und Fundstücke, die sie sammelt und
dokumentiert. Aus diesem Archiv speist Bayer ihre reduzierten Konstruktionen, die die
Fundstücke in verschiedenen Medien in neue Sinnzusammenhänge bringen; aus ihren
ursprünglichen Kontexten isoliert erhalten die Fundstücke einen zeichenhaften Charakter.
Caroline Bayers Installationen und Zeichnungen treten in Dialog mit dem Ausstellungsort,
kommentieren ihn und ergänzen ihn um neue Betrachtungsebenen.
Für die Ausstellung versetzt wird die Künstlerin sich mit der Architektur ihrer eigenen
Wohnung in Berlin auseinandersetzen und diese in Zusammenhang mit den Räumen
der ES contemporary art gallery in Meran setzen. Die Galerie befindet sich in einem
Laubenhaus aus dem 14. Jahrhundert. Das einzige Fenster zum Hof wurde mit einer Wand
verschlossen, sodass in den Raum inzwischen kein Tageslicht mehr dringt.
Hier wird Caroline Bayer eine dreidimensionale Raumzeichnung einfügen, die sich mit der
vorgefundenen Situation auseinandersetzt. Die Hybride zwischen Konstruktion, Zeichnung
und Skulptur thematisiert das Verhältnis zwischen Ausstellungs- und Wohnraum. In zwei
weiteren Räumen der Galerie wird die zentrale Installation in Form von kleineren Arbeiten
thematisch ergänzt, die als assoziative Bausteine fungieren; Bayer thematisiert hier die
Aussicht aus den im Hauptraum nachgebildeten Fenstern: den Blick auf das seit 2010 als
riesige urbane Freifläche zugängliche Areal des stillgelegten Flughafens Berlin-Tempelhof.
Darüber hinaus ist versetzt eine thematische Fortsetzung der fast zeitgleich stattfindenden

Nella sua opera Caroline Bayer utilizza gli elementi dinamici urbani, architettonici e
geografici che osserva nell’ambiente che la circonda. La sua attenzione non è tanto
rivolta alle forme eccentriche e appariscenti, quanto piuttosto alle forme funzionali del
paesaggio Turbano quotidiano. Nei prospetti di edifici, nelle carte geografiche e nelle
planimetrie l’artista trova forme ed elementi che raccoglie e documenta. È da questo
archivio che si ispirano le sue costruzioni semplici che contestualizzano gli oggetti trovati
in un modo nuovo e originale mediante l’uso di diversi media. Una volta isolati dal loro
contesto originario, queste forme ed elementi acquisiscono un carattere simbolico. Le
installazioni e i disegni di Caroline Bayer dialogano con il luogo espositivo, lo commentano
e lo integrano con nuove e originali prospettive.
In occasione dell’esposizione versetzt (spostato, cambiato di posto) l’artista si confronta
con l’architettura del proprio appartamento a Berlino e la mette in relazione con gli spazi
della ES Galerie di Merano. La galleria si trova in un edificio dei Portici del XIV secolo.
L’unica finestra che dà sul cortile è stata murata e per questo motivo all’interno dello
spazio espositivo non penetra la luce del giorno.
Qui Caroline Bayer inserisce una installazione ambientale tridimensionale che si confronta
con la situazione precedente. Questo ibrido, tra costruzione, disegno e scultura, intende
tematizzare il rapporto tra lo spazio espositivo e quello abitativo.
In due ulteriori sale della galleria si possono trovare opere più piccole che fungono da
integrazione tematica all’installazione principale, rappresentandone degli elementi
associativi; Bayer tematizza qui la vista che si può vedere dalle finestre riprodotte nella sala
principale, ovvero lo sguardo su quell’enorme spazio urbano costituito dall’ex-areoporto
di Tempelhof,

In her work, Caroline Bayer employs urban, architectural and geographical elements that
she comes across in her environment. She is not so much interested in the spectacular,
but rather focuses on ev­eryday, functional forms from the urban landscape. The artist
locates forms and objects in building elevations, maps, and floor plans, and then collects
and documents them.
Bayer uses them as inspiration for her reduced constructions, contextualizing the found
objects in a new way through the use of different media. Isolated from their original
context, the objects take on a symbolic character. Caroline Bayer’s installations and
drawings enter into dialogue with the place in which her exhibitions are set, comment on
it, and augment it with new levels of observation.
For the exhibition, the artist will deal with taking the architecture of her own apartment
in Berlin out of context, and transposing it to the ES contemporary art gallery spaces
in Merano. The gallery is located in a Laubenhaus, or arcade house, dating back to
the fourteenth century. The one window that once opened onto to courtyard has been
closed by a wall, so the room has no natural light.
Caroline Bayer will integrate a three-dimensional drawing into the exhibition that deals
with the situation as she finds it. The hybrid of construction, drawing and sculpture
addresses the relationship between exhibition space and living space.
In two additional gallery spaces, smaller-scale works act as companion pieces to the
main installation, expounding on its themes like building blocks. Here, Bayer addresses
the vista from the windows simulated in the main room: a view of the decommissioned
Berlin-Tempelhof
