2014 ist die Leica camera aG mit der einweihung ihrer neuen unternehmenszentrale im Leitz-Park Wetzlar zu ihren Wurzeln
zurückgekehrt: in Wetzlar hatte oskar Barnack vor 100 Jahren die erste Fotokamera für einen 35-mm-Kinofilm im aufnahmeformat 24 x 36 mm erfunden und damit nicht nur den Grundstein für die kommerziell erfolgreiche Leica Kleinbildkamera,
sondern auch für eine vollkommen neue art der Fotografie gelegt, die bis heute unsere Wahrnehmung der realität und
damit unser aller Weltbilder beeinflusst. seit der photokina im Jahre 1954, auf der vor 60 Jahren mit der Leica m3 das
m-system das Licht der Welt erblickte, sind es die m-Kameras von Leica, die diese art der Fotografie verkörpern. neben
dem messsucher – für den das m steht – wartete die Leica m3 mit weiteren neuerungen wie dem m-Bajonett auf. Beide
innovationen haben bis heute Bestand und finden sich in weiterentwickelter Form auch an den jüngsten mitgliedern der
m-Familie wieder – der vollmechanischen Leica m-a, der Leica m-P und der m60 zum 60-jährigen Jubiläum – drei Kameras,
die jede auf ihre Weise die technische Kontinuität und das erfolgreiche Konzept des m-systems widerspiegeln: jederzeit
das technisch machbare mit dem fotografisch sinnvollen zu verbinden.
in 2014, Leica camera aG returned to their roots with the opening of the new company headquarters in Leitz Park, Wetzlar.
it was 100 years ago in Wetzlar that oskar Barnack invented the first stills camera to use standard 35 mm cinema film with a
frame size of 24 x 36 mm. this not only laid the foundations for Leica’s commercially successful small format cameras, but
gave rise to an entirely new kind of photography: one which, to this day, has influenced our perception of reality and so our
collective world-view. ever since the Leica m3 was introduced at photokina 1954 – marking the birth of the m-system – this
type of photography has been embodied by Leica’s m cameras. along with the rangefinder (the ‘m’ stands for the German
term ‘messsucher’), the m3 also offered other innovations, such as the m-bayonet mount. Both have stood the test of
time. even today, advanced versions of both features can be found on the most recent additions to the m family – the fully
mechanical Leica m-a, the Leica m-P and the m60 (released to mark the m-system’s 60th anniversary). in their own way,
each of the three cameras reflects the m-system’s technical continuity and enduringly successful concept: to combine the
technologically achievable with the photographically practicable.

Das diesjährige ausstellungskonzept der Leica Galerie legt
einen Fokus auf eindrucksvolle Fotokunst rund um das
thema musik. Berücksichtigt werden alle Facetten der
musikfotografie von Konzertaufnahmen über sehr persönliche Künstlerporträts bis hin zu reportagen mit spannenden
einblicken hinter die Konzert-Kulissen. Hinzu kommen
Fotoprojekte von musikern, für die Fotografie zu einer zweiten
Leidenschaft oder Profession geworden ist. abgerundet
wird das ausstellungsprogramm durch die prämierten Fotostrecken aus den Leica Kulturprojekten Leica Hall of Fame
und Leica oskar Barnack Preis.
Die Leica Galerie ist während der messetage vom 16. bis zum 21. september 2014
täglich von 10:00 bis 18:00 uhr geöffnet. Der eintritt ist kostenfrei.
the focus of this year’s exhibition concept is on impressive art photography from the world of music. it encompasses all facets of music photography, from concert
images and extremely personal artist portraits to reportage
photography with exciting glimpses behind the scenes at
concerts. in addition, the exhibition will also showcase
the work of musicians who have embraced photography as
a second passion or profession. this year’s exhibition programme is rounded off by award-winning portfolios from the
Leica cultural projects Leica Hall of Fame und Leica oskar
Barnack award.
the Leica Gallery in Hall 1 will be open daily during the photokina

At this year’s photokina, Leica are introducing the new Leica
S, whose standout features include its impressive high-end
video capability. Be among the first to experience the latest
innovations in Leica’s exciting medium format S-System. In
order to provide customers with the most suitable tools for
any given application, Leica Camera AG have extended their
product portfolio – adding the high-performance Leica Cine
Lenses by CW Sonderoptic, as well as specialist precision

Shanghai-Panorama
Der deutsche Fotograf HG Esch präsentiert auf dem Roncalliplatz in Köln vom 16. bis zum 21. September 2014 ein einzigartiges Panorama der Skyline von Shanghai. Das 360-Grad-Foto,
aufgenommen mit der Mittelformatkamera Leica S, ist in einer
knapp fünf Meter hohen, begehbaren Rotunde zu sehen. Dort
erwartet die Besucher eine intensive bildliche Erfahrung: Sie
können buchstäblich in das Panoramabild eintauchen und
– dank der hohen Auflösung – selbst kleinste Details der beeindruckenden, pulsierenden Großstadt Shanghai entdecken.
Shanghai Panorama
From 16 to 21 September, German photography artist HG
Esch presents his unique panorama of the Shanghai skyline
in Cologne’s Roncalli Square. The 360 degree photograph
(captured with the Leica S medium format system) will be
displayed in a nearly five-metre high, walkable rotunda. An
intense visual experience awaits visitors, who will be able to
immerse themselves in the image, and – thanks to the extremely high resolution – discover even the smallest details of
this exciting, pulsating metropolis.

photographer each day during photokina. A guest photographer exhibiting at the Leica Galerie will pick his favorite photo
shared on Instagram to determine who the lucky winner will
be.

awarded the photo book. The winner must be present at the
Leica Camera booth at photokina to claim the prize the day
of the announcement; each daily winner will be chosen the
following day. The announcement will be made on Leica’s Instagram and Twitter accounts (@leica_camera).

during the event on Tuesday, September 16 – Saturday, September 20 between 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. CEST at the Leica
