On April 28, 2014, shouts of celebratory screams
were heard pouring from the office at Rocky Boy High
School. Upon investigation, it was discovered that
those joyous melodies stemmed from the announcement that six seniors have been awarded Pathways
scholarships. The Pathways Scholarship helps provide
academically prepared students from GEAR UP participating high schools financial assistance to help access
postsecondary education. The scholarship is awarded
to recipients of the Montana GEAR UP Achievement
Grant who meet the eligibility requirements and apply
during their senior year of high school. The scholarship’s maximum value is $22, 500 which is disbursed in
annual awards of $5, 635 or less. The scholarship may
be used at any public or private
2- or 4- year accredited institution in the United States.
This year’s Rocky Boy recipients are Eric Houle, Shania
Parker, Desmond Parker, Codi Parker, Jaelynne Chief
Goes Out, and Ashley Lindberg.
Congratulations to our six outstanding Stars who are
taking home more than $110, 000 in Pathways scholarship money!
Along with the scholarship recipients, we have 10
achievement grant winners who each will receive
$15,000 towards college. Those recipients are Teshia
Big Knife, Jaelynne Chief Goes Out, JoDee
Demontiney, Eric Houle, Ashley Lindberg, Jessi Mitchell, Codi Parker, Shania Parker, Desmond Parker, and
Chenaya Standing Rock.
Pathway Scholarship Recipients
This year’s Awards Assembly reminded us of who really cares
at the school. Both students and staff
were asked to select the staff members
they feel are the most caring and deserving of being Staff of the Year.
For the junior high, Mrs. Teresa Olson
wins that award. Mrs. Engebretson wins
for the high school. Not to be left out,
non-certified staff also won. This year a
tie between two very caring individuals
make Gramma Zellah Nault and Donna
Raining Bird our Staff of the Year.

COMMUNITY GARDENS!
Fresh vegetables this summer
are available. Several community
garden plots are being designated
for community use. The plots are
to be set up near Stone Child College, by the Wells’ place, by Wilma
Tiner’s in Haystack, and near Junior Parker’s in Duck Creek.
A youth garden will also be
planted at the Agency.
If residents are interested in other areas for gardens, they can contact Mary Ruth St. Pierre.

are still in place this summer. One
way to combat the restrictions is to
have rain barrels to collect water for
your gardens.
Raised beds will be available for the elderly.
As to the age restriction,
Mary Ruth said she’s setting it at 60 so she will
also qualify! To determine
which raised bed you
want, size and height,

respect to the teachers!
Advice to the upcoming senior class? Don’t be fake, because no body ever likes the seniors, and enjoy, last year
always goes by fast, and the girls, you can stop drawing
attention to yourselves.

To SOME girls, my ability to

To C/O 2016, My ability to be good role

guys will probably be one of the best classes
to graduate from R.B.
To Minnie The Boy, my tallness, so you can
be seen in the hallways, & on the court.
It’s been ten years since Jessie graduated.
She’s practically running the elementary school
now. She took over as secretary in the office
when Mary Russette finally retired back in
2020. Well, you may not know this, but Jessi
had twins in the summer of 2014. No one, not
even the doctors saw that coming. Jessi’s kids
are great basketball players and are the best
singers at almost every Pow Wow they attend.
They’ve been featured, along with Jessie and her brothers, on Good Morning America.
Jessi even produced an album with her and the twins singing. Yes, brothers Tate, Lauren, Shontay, and Emmit, Jojo and Sanjay are even on the album.

Favorite school lunch? Weenies, chips, and water
What will you miss the most about high school? The
fact that I was in H.S being a cheerleader, going to
school trips/tournaments.
Advice to the underclassmen? Sleep early. Do your homework, improve everyday, meet new people. Don’t miss
school. Explore new things, get out of bed. You’re only in high
school once. Give thanks for the blessings. Smile through the
B.S and do the best you can with what you were given. Wake
up and strive for clarity and coherence. Every single breathing
moment of life is a gift. Appreciate yourself and what you have
and believe in your ability to succeed in life in whatever you
do. You live once, you live every single day. Paint your illusions
how ever you like. It’s up to you how you want to live. Life is
what you make it.
Advice to the upcoming senior class? To everybody in general,
nobody likes people who draw attention. Don’t get cocky.
Show who you are really are and maybe people will like you
more. Get your head out of your chisk & focus on your work
& actually be in school. I’m just saying.
Who’d have thought that in 2023
Teshia Big Knife would be on the
cover for Fortune 500 magazine as
Business Woman of the year? Well it
happened. She attended college for
two years but got tired of studying
when she really wanted to be working. She also realized that she wasn’t
going to have the money to continue
her education.
So, Teshia called up her friend
Kylee Raining Bird, who had decided
college wasn’t for her, and tried life
as a police officer. Teshia knew Kylee

back roads and offered her a position as Teshia’s head of security
and personnel, basically, she offered her a partnership in her business.
Teshia started her own company
creating videos, web sites, and
commercials for the various agencies on the Reservation. Her work
was the best anyone had seen, so
her business soon grew, and by
2018 Teshia was not only
doing most of the media for all the
reservations in Montana, but began
doing freelance work for some of
the Hollywood independent films.
By 2013, Teshia’s work had won her
an Obie, three Oscars, and made her
one of the richest film makers in the U.S.
Kylee, though, didn’t want all that
fame, so she cashed out of the partnership in 2020 and moved back to the Reservation. Kylee took some of her money
and built a luxurious Boys and Girls Club
when she still oversees today. The club
has an Olympic-sized swimming pool,
three tennis courts and one of the best
golf courses in the state. Oh, and Mr.
Ferguson loves that his team gets to
practice there and then host the state
meet there next year.

What is your advice to the underclassmen? Be yourself and don’t conform into someone who is a carbon

JoDee Rae Demontiney
JoDee has been traveling around following the rodeo circuit
for the past few years. This hasn’t been all in vain though.
Because she knows so much about all the saddle bronc and
bull riders, she has become a color commentator for ESPN
and the PBR. JoDee is no longer following the circuit in her
beat-up Ford pickup, but now she travels in style on the
private jet of Isaiah Turn Toes and JuJu Saddler as they tour
the circuit. Don’t worry though, JoDee is not involved with
either of those boys; she has her sites set on the desk job at
ESPN and will learn later this week if the job is hers.
Good luck, JoDee!
In ten years, Shania Parker is in business with Martin and together they sell
office products and pay for their bills and manage the money. Their business is
called “Need” and it is located in Helena, MT. Shania was on a trip in Los Angles for her 29th birthday and Martin took her to dinner at a big fancy restaurant and getting her a gift. His gift was backstage passes to a Pierce the Veil
concert. Martin took her to the concert and bought her some drinks then left
her there so she can go backstage to meet all the members of the band. She
caught the eye of the lead guitarist Tony Perry,
right when he seen her he went up to her and
asked her on a date, and with such surprise Shania screamed yes. He took her on a romantic
date to Carmel California where they watched
the sunset.
I Shania Parker being of majestic mind and awkward

What is your advice to the upcoming

I Ashley Henderson being of
most dope and pure awesomeness, isn’t going to leave a

Favorite last words…
Come to school, word hard, get it
done, because its going to make your
last year easier on you.
Ashely Henderson hasn’t been heard
from since she left Rocky Boy to attend college in
Denver. We suspected that she was going to the
Art Institute, but no one really knows for sure.
Well, let me tell you that I was took my daughter to the library the other day, and lo and behold, my daughter picked up a book written and
illustrated by none other than Ashley Lindberg
Henderson.
I grabbed the book, flipped it over to see if the
author’s photo was on the back, it wasn’t. So as
soon as I got home, I Googled the book. Yep,
Ashley had written it. This was not her first book
either. She has written an entire series of children’s books and illustrated them.
I was even more impressed when I found out
that Ashley had won the Caldecot and the Newberry Awards for children’s literature. In fact,
she’s being honored this fall at the White House
for her efforts in writing for Native American
children.
In 2023 when both the boys and the girls won the state
basketball title, they were sure glad that Chenaya was
there with the cheerleaders. Chenaya Standing Rock has
been the cheerleading coach since 2018 and has taken the
girls from a shy group to a world-class competition team.
Under Chenaya’s management, the team has competed at
the national level on four separate occasions. Her coaching style has become so renown that Rocky Boy School is having
to get strict about incoming students. The school has also had to
build on to the facility to accommodate the necessity for a practice area just for the cheerleading team.
Chenaya had planned to marry once, but work kept her so busy
she had to let her fiancé go rather than make him feel left out
because of how much time she spends at work. He said he’d wait,
and has even applied to teach at Rocky Boy to be close to her.
Can you imagine Boris Kodjoe working at Rocky Boy?

What is your advice to the underclassmen? Come to

you will miss it when it’s over!
What is your advice to the upcoming senior class?
Give your last year your all, participate in everything
and have fun! But not too much!
Favorite last words… You can’t be old and wise, if
you were never young and crazy.
I being of Ratchet mind and Plump body, do hereby
leave the following:
To Rainey, I leave my ratchetness because she went
through training and needs it.
To Savannah, I leave my ability to do a cart-wheel
split because she doesn’t know how.
Payge did go into the Army and moved up the ranks fairly
quickly. She became a Master Saergant in just three years.
She re-upped after her first tour was over and then moved
to Germany where she met her husband, Rainer. Rainer
was the buisness instructor at the US school on the base.
How she met Rainer was really a crazy story. She was
driving the jeep on base and swerved to miss a cat. She ran
into Rainer’s bicycle. Fortunately, Rainer wasn’t on it, but
she bent the frame. Rainer was so nice and fell in love right
away. Payge wasn’t into having an overseas romance at first,
To Tierra, I leave my attitude because you’re to
shy.
To Amanda, I leave my locker, so you may place
your belongings in # 328.
To Jai-Lynne, I leave my heart because you’re
heartless and need a functioning one.
To Kristie, I leave the ability to get rowdy at every game and yell crazy things.
To Juju, I leave a cup of tea so he will quit bugging me.
To Bowen, I leave my coolness, because Bro you
need it.
To Brittany, I leave my ability to be tardy and get
away with it.
To Future Cheerleaders, I leave my voice because I’m the loudest, and you need to keep the
crowd going.
But she finally gave in and fell for Rainer too.
As it turns out, Rainer doesn’t need to work, but
does to keep busy. He flew the entire Raining Bird family over to Germany for the elaborate fall wedding.
Payge and Rainer were featured in Stars and Stripes
for having quintuplets. That’s the most any military
member has had at one time while stationed overseas.
Rainer stays home with the five little ones as Payge
finishes out her third tour.

What is your advice to the underclassmen? Stay out

Mrs. E because you’re never going to win.
What is your advice to the upcoming senior class?
Don’t miss school! Bad attendance will screw you
over in the end.
Favorite last words… Party Naked!
I, being of filthy mind and semi-husk body, do hereby
leave the following:
To my little sister Britney, my great ability to be late
to first hour, every single day, even if we do only live
about a mile away from the school.
To whoever has enough bullshxt to fill them, my
three different lockers. (none of
which actually belonged to me.)
To LaCrissa, my loud voice because you’re always yelling!
To Amanda, my cougar skills because I have faith that you can

To JoeRay my boss writing skills
because his papers definitely need
them!
To all the underclassmen, my wisdom because I’ve done it all and
realize now that damn, I was
dumb!
Ashely went to Stone Child for two years, got
her associate’s degree, and then joined the police
force the day she turned 21. Even though that was
her dream job, Ashley soon realized that that was
not really what she wanted to do. She stayed with
the job long enough to save some money to move.
She really wanted to get away, so she moved to
Las Vegas. She became a dealer at the Mirage and
was so good at her job that she was promoted to
the VIP table in just a few
months.
On her third day at the VIP
table, Ashley met Dr. Dre. She
wasn’t impressed by his riches,
which seemed to annoy him, so
he kept after her until she finally agreed to go on a date with
him.
Ashley still wasn’t impressed,
so Dre kept on asking her out.
It wasn’t until their fifth date
that Ashley started to care
about Dre.
It only took him two more
years to get her to agree to be
his wife. They will be heading
back to Rocky Boy later this
summer to hold their wedding.

I being of crazed mind and skinny body do hereby
leave the following:
My locker to Emmett because he is always in it anyways.
To Dontay Scott I leave my singing voice to be crisp.
In 2024 Dante is working his way through the Pow
Wows all over the northwest. He and his drum
group have been together competing since 2017 after he decided to break away from the Whitefish
Juniors.
He met a jingle dress dancer at the Hopi Pow
Wow in 2015 and chased her around the country
for two years before she finally settled down with
Dante.
In 2018 they had their first child, Dante, Jr. He
follows his daddy around drumming too. In 2020 the
couple had a little princess they call Harrie. In 2022,
Dante and Vessie finally made it official and got married. When his family asked why it took so long,
both Dante and Vessie joked that they were waiting
until they had their own drummer and flower girl.
When not on the Pow Wow circuit, Dante is busy
working for MasterLube in Great Falls. He’s gone
from the grunt worker to the day-shift supervisor.
Dante likes working there because he can work on
his 67 Chevelle when the shop isn’t busy.
So, if you see a sup’d up ‘67 with a wolf on the
doors and an eagle painted on the hood, you can bet
that Dante Standing Rock is behind the wheel.

Shania is engaged to Tony Perry from the band Pierce
The Veil. Martin met his wife when he was going to class
and she just now walked in and she was new to the university, so Martin thought it would be nice to just show
her around. While showing her around, Martin realized
that they have a lot in common. They hit it off quite perfectly and a year later they got married in Oregon, by a
waterfall.
The happily married couple stayed happy since. Shania,
however, met her soon to be husband at a concert.
They met while Shania went backstage and introduced
herself and Tony wanted to know more about her. So
Shania and Tony went on a date together and they
clicked, they had a strong chemistry with each other.
Their wedding plans are to be married in a church and
their honeymoon to go to Hawaii and drink Piña Coladas
by the beach.

not to miss
school, other
than that I
don’t know!
Cherise has been out of school for ten long years now. She hasn’t left
the reservation, but helps her brother with his not-so-little boy. Because she got so good at taking care of the little ones, Cherise
opened up a day care center of her own. She’s up to fifteen kids on a
regular basis so has to employ a couple of aids. One of those aids is
Ayanna Plascencia. Anyanna loves the little kids almost as much as
Cherise does.
I had to stop by the other day to drop off some papers. I was impressed with how well-behaved those little tykes are. They were all
sitting around reading their favorite books and said, “Please” and
“Thank you” to everything.
What was most impressive was that neither Cherise or Ayanna
were swearing either. They’ve really grown up.
Cherise does have a husband now. He works at the Clinic. I think
she said he’s an x-ray technician. They also have two little ones.
Cherise said the boy is Junior, and the little girl’s name is something
like princes (at least that’s what I heard her say).
Ayanna isn’t settling down yet. She does have a couple of boyfriends, but just doesn’t want to get stuck with just one guy. She still
jumps in with the Lafromboise crew every chance she gets and goes
to watch the ball games.

Page 17
SaRain Young Bear
SaRain hasn’t changed much over the past ten years. He has finally
been able to grow a mustache, but that’s about it. He took a job at
the high school about six years ago and gives Mrs. Lorett a bad
time every chance he gets. Oh, how he loves to tease her when
she forgets her keys!
SaRain met his wife at the Crow Pow Wow back in 2017. They
took the longest time to get married. They even had three of their
five kids before he finally convinced himself that he was committed
to her. She works at the Health Clinic now.
SaRain is after his kids every day (easy to do since he works at
the school) to get their work done. Every day. The two older ones
have never missed a day of school; SaRain sees to that.
Jaelynne Chief Goes Out
Have you had to be at the Courts lately? If so, you
may have run into Jaelynne Chief Goes Out. She’s
over there running the place.
Jaelynne got her associate’s degree at SCC and
then realized that she should do more. She moved
to Missoula and got her B.S. in Criminal Science
and moved back to Box Elder. She’s currently a
social worker and has really worked hard on truancy and neglect.
It’s funny because her brother Cardell has three
kids now. None of them has missed a single day of
school! Jaelynne got married a couple of years ago
too. She met her husband Jeff at the Napa Parts
store in Havre. Jaelynne was there getting parts for
her ‘59 Chevy truck. Jeff didn’t believe she knew
anything about cars. After a few trips in to the
store (to get the part she’d asked for the first time
and Jeff had gotten wrong), they started dating.
Of course, Jeff is also a Chevy man, so they
clicked right away. It’s really fun to watch the two
go head-to-head at the Hill County Demolition
Derby each summer. Go check it out. (Spoiler
alert—Jaelynn usually wins!)
Jaelynne had thought she was going to be a mechanic, but realized that although tinkering on cars
is her passion, she wanted to keep it that way and
uses it to relax after a stressful day at work.

Words from the 7-12 Dean of Students
Words cannot express how our staff
members feel as this new crop of graduates
gets ready to walk across that stage. We
have been watching some of you since
Head Start and then Elementary ad Junior
High. Bright shining faces, youngsters who
are eager to learn. It goes by in the blink of
any eye, and here they are all grown up and
ready to leave the nest.
We wish these graduates the best that
life has to offer. We have hopes and
dreams that they make the best of things
and go on to higher education. It makes
day-to-day survival much easier when you
have an education to fall back onto.
We hope that once our students exit the doors of our
schools that they go on to bigger and better things. Life has
much to give for those who have
an upbeat attitude and are willing to tackle life head on.
We wish that we had the
words that these young adults
need to hear to create their new
worlds. But it is no longer time
for words. Now is the time for
action. It is those actions that
will determine their futures.
