Respect Life Conference 2016:
The Diocese of Orlando is hosting the 30th annual statewide
Respect Life Conference on October 14th & 15th at Sts. Peter and
Paul Catholic Church, 5300 Old Howell Branch Rd, Winter Park,
32792. The conference theme is entitled, “Merciful Like the
Father” which continues Pope Francis’ Extraordinary Holy Year,
the Jubilee of Mercy.
Friday evening at 6:00pm which is a Free event open to everyone.
Saturday topics include: the death penalty, human trafficking,
living in solidarity, and end of life and beginning of life issues.
Mass will be celebrated by Bishop John Noonan. For more

ADULT SACRAMENTAL
PREPARATION
RCIA is a process that takes place along
the Spiritual path to Christ. RCIA is the
acronym for Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. It is a
process one enters into for conversion of faith and/or
completion of the sacraments of initiation. This includes
Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist. Those who have
been baptized in another faith tradition which is
recognized as a valid baptism by the Roman Catholic
Church do not need to be baptized again. Since we believe
in one baptism for the forgiveness of sins, we ask only that
the person make a Profession of Faith, which states that
they believe and hold true the tenets of the Catholic Faith.
Those who have not been baptized are brought into the
Church at the Easter Vigil Mass [the night before Easter
Sunday]. Confirmation and Eucharist may be celebrated
for those who have been baptized at the time our bishop
approves a date. Baptized Catholics who have not been
prepared for reception of Confirmation and Eucharist may
also attend the RCIA process. Catholics who have not
been confirmed have other options depending upon their
previous preparation. Our particular process does allow
people at different levels of faith and Christian initiation to
participate. In the strictest sense, the RCIA was designed
for those not baptized and those seeking conversion from
one faith tradition to that of the Catholic faith.
RCIA classes began on Wednesday, September 7th at
6:30pm in the parish office building. You may email
[email protected] with questions or for more
information.
*Please note that if you or your spouse are presently
married and have had previous marriages, annulments
of the former marriages may be needed prior to seeking
initiation into the Catholic Church. This is required for
Catholics and non-Catholics as well. Please call Sr. Lucy
Vazquez at our parish office for more information about
the annulment process.

YOUTH MINISTRY

may register this Sunday evening at
the Youth Group meeting at 6:00pm
in the parish center [school building 200]. There is
no fee to join. Our Senior High Youth Ministry seeks
to facilitate the active involvement in parish life and
prayer of senior high students. This ministry is open
to any teenager in grades 9-12. Our Adult Youth
Ministry Team provides opportunities to practice
leadership, offer service, celebrate liturgy and prayer
experiences, gather socially, and deepen students'
understanding of their faith and the church. For more

FAITH FORMATION DATES FOR
CHILDREN, YOUTH & ADULTS
If you missed our registration for PREP,
Youth Ministry or the RCIA, it is not too

Please note that the fees for PREP are:
$45 for one; $60 for two; $75 for three or more; $15 for
sacramental preparation. The fee for RCIA is $25.
Birth certificates for those not baptized are and
baptismal certificates for those baptized are required at
time of registration.
CATECHISTS, ASSISTANTS &
PEER MINISTERS NEEDED
We are now asking for our parishioners who feel called
and gifted to the ministry of religious education/faith
formation to discern joining PREP for the next sessions
beginning in September. Catechists and assistants must
be 21 years of age and older, Catholic, baptized,
confirmed and in right relationship with the Church,
willing to submit to fingerprinting/background checks
and view a Safety Video. Peer ministers are required
to be Catholic, baptized and confirmed, attending high
school in grades 9-12, also willing to undergo
fingerprinting/background checks and view the Safety
Video. PREP is one of the most satisfying and rewarding
ministries in the Church. Training is provided. Please

Due to a scheduling conflict the LIFE Plus
Program dates October 22nd and 23rd have
been changed to Saturday, November 5th at 2:00pm in
the parish center. This session will be for PREP parents
and their children in grades Pre-K to 6th Grade. If you

FEEDING THE HUNGRY
The Corporal Works of Mercy remind us that we are
all responsible to take care of the physical needs of
others, especially those who have little. We need to
continue to donate food for St. Vincent de Paul
through Share Sunday. Another helpful way is

YOUNG ADULT MINISTRY
“Our beloved Pope Francis continues
to open wide the doors to everyone!
At the last World Youth Day held in
the Philippines, Pope Francis said,
“bring Christ into every area of life, to the fringes of
society, even to those who seem farthest away, most
indifferent. The Lord seeks all; he wants everyone to
feel the warmth of his mercy and his love.” If we do
not share the Gospel, it would be like withholding
oxygen from a burning flame, the pope said.
The Gospel has no borders or limits, the Gospel is for
everyone. That is the challenge for the young in the
Church today. The Gospel message has been deposited
in our hearts. Our parents, grandparents and ancestors
passed on the faith that we now profess. As we come
of age, we must step up to this challenge which every
generation before us has carried out. Passing of the
faith is the duty of the baptized. The 21st century
requires new methods to deliver and preach the
Gospel, and as Pope Francis reminded us; “do you
know what the best tool is for evangelizing the young?
Another young person.” It is now our turn!
Charles and Tina Lyons, our Young Adult Ministry
Coordinators, continue to encourage and invite young
adults, single, married, married with children, ages
18-30, to join the Young Adult Ministry. Knowing
how busy our young adults are, Charles and Tina have
developed a calendar with respect to demanding work/
school/family schedules. Why not give it a shot, bring
a friend and see what this ministry has to offer.

Jubilee Year of Mercy
Twenty-eighth Sunday in
Ordinary Time
Jubilee of Marian Devotion
This weekend, the Jubilee honors Mary under the
title Pope Francis suggests, “Mother of Mercy.”
Recall the Good Samaritan Gospel. Priest and
Levite saw suffering but showed no mercy. Recall
the rich man, who never saw Lazarus right before
his eyes, and showed no mercy. Today, Jesus sees
ten lepers from afar and shows extraordinary
mercy. Mary’s entire life, declares Francis, was
modeled on Jesus, “Mercy-Made-Flesh.” Indeed,
standing at the cross, Mary saw Jesus’ mercy take
flesh when Jesus showed mercy to the
executioners. So Pope Francis recommends we
frequently pray the Salve Regina, Hail, Holy
Queen, asking her to ever look upon us with
mercy, so that we might be worthy to gaze upon
the face of her merciful Son Jesus. May we do so
not only in eternity, but here and now, opening our
eyes to see Jesus in others, and our hearts to serve
Jesus in others by loving deeds of unconditional
mercy.
