German Australian Playschool (GAP)
After a summer of hard work, the GAP moved into its new
premises in Turner at the beginning of this year. We are
now co-located with our German playgroup friends and
the German Scout group; and we love it! Our teacher,
Sarah Buck, came out from Germany just for us, and ran

Liebsten sind wir als hungrige Löwen zu unseren

Löwenfrühstückslied gesungen haben. Für die Semester 3
und 4 freuen wir uns auf Sabine Shanahan, unsere neue
Lehrerinnen, und Inez Chai als rechte Hand. Inez kommt
vom bilingualen Kindergarten Billy in Jena. Ausserdem
haben wir tolle Schweizerlieder von Mirjam Herzog gelernt.
Wednesday GAP class
GAP now offering three days
We have had an unqualified success this year, with the
introduction of immersion days and our new learner days.
Wednesdays and Thursdays are our "Fluent / Immersion
Days". These days offer an immersion program, with very
little (if any) English spoken to the children. This
encourages the children to use their German more. Fluent

GAP bietet nun ein Programm über drei Tage an
children and many returning children will be given priority
on Wednesdays and Thursdays for the 2010 classes.
Wir hatten dieses Jahr einen riesen Erfolg mit der
Aufteilung unseres Unterrichts in „Fortgeschrittene“, die
den Kindern erlauben tief in die deutsche Sprache
einzutauchen und „Anfänger“ für unsere Kinder, die
anfangen die deutsche Sprache zu verwenden.
Unsere „Forgeschrittene“ Tage sind Mittwoch und
Donnerstag. Hier wird fast ausschließlich deutsch
gesprochen. Dies inspiriert die Kinder, die deutsche
Sprache auch im Alltag zu benutzen. In den Klassen für
2010 wird Kindern mit fließendem Deutsch und Kindern,
die bereits in den Mitwochs- und Donnerstagsgruppen

Freitag ist „Anfänger Tag“. Hier wird den Kindern ein

New home for GAP, Spiel und Spass, and Pfadfinder
together, close to the City Centre.
The GAP, Spiel und Spass, and Pfadfinder (the new
Scouts-in-German group) have created a wonderful
environment for children in our new home – the Scout Hall in
the lovely Haig Park on Masson Street, Turner – very near
Civic.
Co-locating all our groups in one venue has meant we can
share our libraries, resources, consumables, craft and
baking supplies, and so on. There is a full kitchen on site, an

equipment storage room, a shed for our trikes, outdoor toys
and canoes, a library room for quiet time, and an office for
our teachers and leaders. Being co-located also provides an
easier transition for children moving from Spiel und Spass to
the GAP and on to Scouts, as the children will already be
familiar with the premises.
Die GAP und unsere Spielgruppen haben durch den
Aufbau unserer neuen Pfadfindergruppe ein neues
Zuhause gefunden. Dies befindet sich in der Scout Hall in
Turner, im herrlichen Haig Park der Masson Street.
Durch die Nutzung der Pfadfinderhalle von allen unseren
Gruppen haben sich viele Vorteile ergeben. So können wir
Ressourcen wie die Bibliothek gemeinsam nutzen. Auch
sind alle Verbrauchsmaterialien (wie Bastel-, Koch-, und
Spielmaterial) für alle Gruppen zugänglich. Die
Pfadfinderhalle hat eine Küche, einen Lagerraum für
unsere gesamten Spielzeuge und eine Garage für alle
Fahrräder und Klettergerüste. Zusätzliche Räume, wie die
Bibliothek und das Büro bieten Platz für unsere Lehrer und
Pfadfinderleiter an, Programme ausgiebig zu planen. Auch
erleichtert die Tatsache, dass alle Aktivitäten an einem Ort
stattfinden, den Kindern einen einfacheren Übergang von
den Spielgruppen zur GAP und weiter zur
Pfadfindergruppe.

Die GAP genießt hervorragende Beziehungen in der

Unser traditioneller Sankt-Martin Laternenumzug
Unser Laternenumzug mit Sankt Martinspiel wird von Jahr
zu Jahr größer. Diesmal waren ca. 300 Kinder und Eltern
dabei und haben an einem schönen Sonntagabend im

ACT Scouts have welcomed us heartily into the
Scouting community. Honourable mentions go to
Peter Harris (Scouts Development Officer) and Doug

erfüllten Sankt Martins Lieder an diesem Abend für über
eine Stunde den Glebe Park. Wer diese Aktivität nächstes
Jahr nicht vermissen möchte, sollte sich in den Verteiler
der Spielwelt (Email-Liste) aufnehmen lassen.

We have had many wonderful sponsors and donors,
such as the German Embassy, all helping us make
the transition to our new home, and establish our
new Scout group.
Our traditional German Lantern Walk
The German Lantern Walk event is getting bigger every
year. An estimated 300 people attended this year’s Lantern
Walk. Everyone enjoyed the warm, aromatic Gluehwein,
tasty Kindergluehwein, sizzling hot sausages, fresh Saint
Martin’s rolls, and treats. The Scouts had a great time
putting on the Saint Martin’s play. We were joined this year
by a guitarist and saxophonist, whose music added to the
pleasant ambience of a night in the park, surrounded by
children’s laughter and bobbing lanterns. Don’t miss it next

Spiel und Spass!
The Spiel und Spass kids continue to have so much fun at
playgroup! We had lots of fun in summer crafting glittery
rainbow fish, pasting together paper plate octopi and
celebrating special days like Valentine's Day and Mother's
Day. The playground at the Scout Hall has been a big
hit with its sandpit, climbing frames and choice of tricycles.
We also enjoyed autumn: creating autumn leaf wreaths

Diesen Sommer, Herbst und Winter hatten wir in unserer
Spielgruppe Spiel und Spass wie immer ein volles
Programm.
Wir
waren
sehr
kreativ,
haben
den
Regenbogenfisch und einen Tintenfisch gebastelt.
Ausserdem haben wir alle Feste, inklusiv Valentinstag und
Muttertag gefeiert. Während des warmen Sommers haben
wir die meiste Zeit auf unserem neuen Spielplatz
verbracht.
Sandkasten, Klettergerüst und die vielen
Dreiräder baten uns Bewegung, Abwechslung und viel
Spass. Im Herbst stand Basteln mit bunten Laubblättern
und Knete an. Auch haben wir uns wieder riesig auf den
Laternenumzug gefreut, Laternen gebastelt und fleißig
unsere St. Martins Lieder geübt. Im Singen sind wir eh
spitze geworden und zu unseren Lieblingsliedern gehören
"Wir Fröschelchen, wir Fröschelchen",
"Brüderchen,
komm tanz mit mir", "Es tanzt ein Bi-Ba-Butzemann" und
wie sollte es anders sein... "Schotterwagen". Jetzt freuen
wir uns auf den Frühling. Da können wir wieder mehr
unseren Spielplatz nutzen und tolle Sachen basteln, wie
z.B. Schmetterlinge und Papierblumen.

pictures with fallen autumn leaves. We had fun creating our
lanterns for the Lantern Parade and practising our lantern
songs. And we love making lots of different shapes with
playdough. We have lots of songs we like to sing. Some of
our favourites are "Wir Fröschelchen, wir
Fröschelchen", "Brüderchen, komm tanz mit mir" and "Es
tanzt ein Bi-Ba-Butzemann" and we don't go a week without
bumping up and down on the "Schotterwagen".
We are looking forward to the weather slowly getting
warmer again when we can get back outside into the
playground and create some pretty spring-themed craft
like butterflies and flowers.

Spiel und Spring!
Wir sind in dieser Spielgruppe zwischen 4 und 6 Jahre alt
Spiel und Spring is for the slightly older (4-6 year old)
children who are fluent in German. We love the park, feeding
und sprechen alle fließend deutsch. In diesem Jahr waren
wir oft im Park unterwegs, haben Pferde gefüttert,
gebacken, gemalt und getanzt.
Einmal haben wir Teller mit unseren eigenen Motiven
bemalt und hatten super viel Spaß. In der nächsten Zeit
wollen wir das Questacon besuchen und kleine
Wissenschaftler werden.
Wenn Du Lust hast, in unserem Alter bist und deutsch
sprichst, dann komm doch einfach mal vorbei.

was very busy helping us, cutting out templates of ponies
and soccer balls! Next term, we might even start
experimenting with a bit of science at Questacon as well.

Scouts in German have incredible fun!
The German Australian Pfadfinder Scout group is a wild
success! The boys and girls just love all of the activities and
games. It’s a great way for your child to practise, use and
maintain their German. The first term focussed on friendship;
and the second term on the sky and space (in line with the
Year of Astronomy).

Erste deutschsprachige Pfadfindergruppe
Im Februar diesen Jahres ging es los mit unserer ersten
deutschen Pfadfindergruppe. Und es war ein einzigartiger
Erfolg! Das Programm orientiert sich nach den deutschen
Pfadfindern sowie den Scouts ACT. Ziel ist es, neben

culinary creations. Delicious aromas filled the Scout hall that
night.
Our term on space and sky saw us folding incredible paper
planes, launching rockets (and Pegasus ponies), crafting

Zeit viel über das Sonnensystem gelernt, haben
Ausserirdische und Planenten gebastelt, Raketen
abgefeuert und hatten auch unsere eigene Teleskopnacht
an der Pfadfinderhalle veranstaltet. Höhepunkt jedoch war
unsere Pfadfinder Versprechenszeremonie und der
Besuch der Sternwarte auf dem Mount Stromlo mit
Wolfgang Kerzendorf. Zur Zeit geht es um die „Erde“ und
wir sind gespannt, was da noch so alles passieren wird!

Mitglieder gesucht: Der deutsche Chor hat eine lange
Tradition in Canberra und singt Lieder in Deutsch und
Englisch. Der Chor trifft sich jeden Montagabend im
deutschen Club in Narrabundah. Auftritte hat der Chor
jährlich in Canberra und ab und zu auch in anderen
Städten.
German Harmonie Choir rejoices at our Opening Ceremony in February
ACT Deutsche Sprachschule
Lehrer/innen und Schüler gesucht: Die deutsche
Sprachschule in ACT unterrichtet Erwachsene und
Schüler von 5 bis 18 Jahren in Deutsch (jeden
Samstagmorgen in Deakin). Das Programm bietet sich
Anfängern sowie Fortgeschrittenen an. Zur Zeit sind noch
einige Plätze frei. Bei genügend Interesse könnte auch
ein separater Fortgeschrittenerkurs angeboten werden.
SINGERS WANTED: The German Harmonie Choir has a
great repertoire of German and English songs, and you don't
need to speak German to sing in the choir. They rehearse
Monday nights in Narrabundah and perform all over
Canberra and sometimes interstate.

Wir sprechen mit einer Zunge (Oktober 2010 für
Kinder von 6 bis 10 Jahren)
Die deutschen Pfadfinder planen im kommenden Jahr
zusammen mit den „International Volunteers for Peace
(IVP)“ (Service Civil International) ein Oktobercamp.
Das Camp richtet sich an Kinder zwischen 6 und 10
Jahren mit unterschiedlichen Muttersprachen. In den 4
Tagen wird gespielt, geplant, diskutiert und dies in
unterschiedlichen Sprachen. Ziel des Camp ist es zu
erfahren, dass man nicht die gleiche Sprache sprechen

muss, um gemeinsame Ziele und Vorstellungen
umzusetzen.
Für die Vorbereitung des Camp sucht die Spielwelt bereits
Freiwillige mit unterschiedlichem Sprachhintergrund.

Languages for World Peace (2010) for Kids 6-10yrs
Pfadfinder Scouts, together with International Volunteers for
Peace (IVP) (or Service Civil International as they are called
in Europe) will be hosting a new event, called Languages for
World Peace, next year, in October 2010.
Children (6-10 years old) who speak any language (other
than English), as well as those who only speak English, will
come together for 4 days, to play games, sports, do crafts
and activities from around the world…… all in different
languages. The aim is for children to realise that you don’t
need to speak the same language to achieve a common
goal, and that this can be achieved peacefully through
cooperation and collaboration.
We are seeking volunteers who speak different languages to

Familien. Zuerst findet das Konzert statt und dann werden
nach deutscher Tradition die Schuhe vor unserer Schultür
aufgestellt. Mal schauen was St. Nikolaus was für uns
mitgebracht hat! Kinder, übt schon mal euer
„Dankeschön“, denn der Nikolaus versteht nur deutsch.
