Oil Rouging
“The Technique is very different
from traditional oil painting.
Rather than painting the picture,
we tint our pictures with colour
which gives a soft watercolour
look. “
Oil Rouging is where colour is added to your project and it is 100%
correctable. Using brushes you apply the oil in very small quantities. It is the
same effect as applying rouge to your face. The intense colour starts at a given
point and then fades to nothing at the edges.
If this project interests you Doris-Kaye Wiens is holding a class from August
5, 2014 - August 26, 2014. This class is held at the Winnipeg Street location
on Tuesday afternoons from 1:00 – 3:00pm. The cost is $40.00 for the class
and $10.00 for supplies. If you are interested in learning a new skill, we hope
to you try this class.

Sweet, Sweet Summertime!
Summertime is a special time—long, lazy days filled with sunshine, warm sand on our toes, juicy
strawberries, the plaintive cry of loons at the lake, hot dogs roasted over the campfire, sipping iced tea
and watching the sun go down. But even more important, it’s a time for families to get together;; it’s a time of visiting and reconnecting. Time and the miles between us slip away as we listen to
grandchildren giggling and reminisce about days gone by. It’s a time of simply enjoying each other’s company. Together, we make memories that will last a lifetime…..and well beyond. Love endures all things.
Summertime is also a good time to talk with our family about practical things like wills, power of
attorney, downsizing to a smaller home with less maintenance, medical concerns, and future planning.
It might surprise you to know that it’s also a good time to talk about funeral preplanning so that your family knows what your wishes are. Our experience has shown us that stress can be greatly reduced
if final arrangements have been discussed, planned, and if you wish, pre-funded. Our preplanning
specialists, Bev Morrell and Brad Funston, would be honoured to assist you by explaining the
emotional and financial advantages, and the options available to you through our preplanning service.
They are available to meet, at your convenience, in your home or at Speers. And, we’d love to meet the people who are special to you!
The loving embrace of family.

A Journey to Hell -‐ (Hospital Excursion)
Recently my wait for an opera=on on my back (bulging disc) was over – I had waited a year and a half. Thus I was excited to know that my opera=on would be the next day. My doctor appeared to do the deed. The opera=on under the skilled hands of the doctor went well and it appeared that everything would be A okay. At this point I was given a powerful drug-‐ morphine-‐ which was meant to relax me and reduce the pain. Instead the drug turned me into a monster which was unknown to me. Apparently the drug morphine blurred my mind and turned me into a violent individual that caused me to be a danger to other pa=ents and to myself. I had no idea what I was doing and s=ll have no memory of what I was up to during the couple of hours-‐ I’ve been told the hospital security arrived and pinned me down so that I couldn’t hurt others or myself. The frightening part was that the morphine made it impossible to know the havoc I was causing. Another frightening happening was that the security tried to scare me into behaving-‐instead it made it worse. I’m told by hospital officials and doctors that this happens quite o`en. That drugs like morphine have the opposite effect instead of relaxing you it turns one into a violent being. When my daughter talked to the abending internist she was told -‐you are making a big deal about something that happens regularly a`er surgery. I wonder how many pa=ents are aware of what a drug might do to them. Scary isn’t it!

Due to my ac=vi=es under the drug my daughter had to stay with me during my stay at the hospital overnight. When she le` someone had to stay in her place to protect me from myself.
Lible did I know that my stay at the hospital would be under guard. Yes my visit to the hospital turned out to be an adventure instead of just a back opera=on and recupera=on stay. One of the saving tac=cs was that the nurses and doctors were very sympathe=c with my happenings. They certainly made my stay at the hospital bearable. It seems that the powerful drug like morphine can make a hospital stay unstable to say the least.
It took a couple of days for the drugs to leave my body and for the hallucina=ons to disappear. Finally I’m back to what can be called normal and the back opera=on that I went to our medical ins=tu=on to have is a success – thanks to the doctors and nurses who not only have to help us with our medical problem but also have to face the difficul=es that drugs may cause.
So from now on when I hear someone is headed to the hospital for an opera=on my mind will think – will the opera=on by an adventure like I experienced?
Yes modern medicine isn’t like the good old days!
Thanks to all who helped me through, this means the hospital full of doctors and nurses and all the others!
Thanks again!

Elphinstone Update...
RSCC Queen City Exhibition Barbeque
The Regina Senior Ci=zen’s Centre (Elphinstone Loca=on) held their annual Queen City Exhibi=on Barbeque on Monday, July 28, 2014. It ran from 11am to 2pm. Seventy seven people turned out for this popular event. Thank you to everyone who came out to support the centre and have an enjoyable =me. The weather was terrific that day.
I would like to thank the three musicians who entertained the crowd that day. They include Peter Dueck, John Buys and Irma Markel. A special acknowledgement to John Buys, as it was his very last performance. Thank you John for your many years of singing, entertainment and help. It was really appreciated.
Thank you to everyone who donated pies for this event. There were eleven pies donated. As well, thank you to Sandy Sandbeck and Gordon Lissel for cooking on the barbeque, Madeline McMurchie for running the popcorn sta=on, Marie Brigidear August 2014!
