David Foster Foundation receives $500,000 in funding support from
Lions Club International and DeerFields Clinic
July 10, 2014, Victoria, BC – Chairman David Foster received $500,000 for his namesake foundation on Tuesday, July 8,
thanks to the support of two long-standing partners – Lions Club International and Jim Wilson, owner of DeerFields
Clinic.
The donations will support the work of the David Foster Foundation, which works to support the non-medical expenses
of families with children undergoing life-saving pediatric organ transplants.
“Since 1986, the David Foster Foundation has assisted families across Canada, but without the support of organizations
like Lions Club International and DeerFields Clinic, we wouldn’t be able to move forward towards our 30th anniversary,”
says Foster. “This funding support will help us assist families for years to come.”
At the Foundation’s annual Miracle Concert & Gala, held in Toronto, ON in December 2013, Foster announced a
commitment to raising $30M by the organization’s 30th anniversary in 2017. The 2013 Toronto gala raised just under
$4M toward this long-term goal, with the 2014 Miracle Concert & Gala set to take place on Sept. 27 in Calgary, AB.
The first of two, $250,000 donations came as Foster was presented with the Humanitarian of the Year award by Lions
Club International, following a keynote speech by his long-time friend Olivia Newton John at the foundation’s
Convention 2014 in Toronto, ON. Foster was honoured by Lions Club International for his more than a quarter century of
support of families across Canada, and recognized for his work with more than 400 charitable organizations over the
past 30 years and his dedication to increasing both awareness and registrations of organ donation throughout North
America.
Following the morning keynote at the Lions Club International Convention 2014, Foster joined more than 150 guests at
DeerFields Stables in nearby Palgrave, ON, where he met with Foundation supporters and friends for an intimate
luncheon catered by celebrity chef Mark McEwan and emceed by Ben Mulroney. During the luncheon, Wilson
presented Foster with a $250,000 donation from DeerFields, thanking him for his hard work and dedication to
supporting nearly 1,000 families over the past 26 years.
