SPECIAL ABBREVIATIONS:
MB (Make Bobble) = draw up a loop in next st, ch 3, yarn
over and draw through 2 loops on hook.
CL (Cluster) = yarn over and draw up a loop in ch-3 of
bobble below, yarn over and draw through 2 loops on
hook, yarn over and draw up a loop in ch-3 of next bobble,
yarn over and draw through 2 loops, yarn over and draw
through all 3 loops on hook; skip sc behind CL. First leg of
next CL begins in same bobble as last leg of last CL.
fpdc (front post double crochet): yarn over, insert hook
from front to back to front around the post of indicated
stitch and draw yarn through, [yarn over and draw through
2 loops on hook] twice.
bpdc (back post double crochet): yarn over, insert hook
from back to front to back around the post of indicated
stitch and draw yarn through, [yarn over and draw through
2 loops on hook] twice.
PATTERN STITCH A
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across;

PATTERN STITCH B
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across;
turn.
Row 2 (RS): Ch 1, sc in first sc, * MB, sc in next sc; repeat
from * to last sc; sc in last sc; turn.
Row 3: Ch 1, sc in each st across; turn.
Row 4: Ch 1, sc in first 2 sc, * CL, sc in next sc; repeat
from * to last 2 sc; dc in ch-3 bobble, skip next sc, sc in
last sc; turn.
Row 5: Repeat Row 3.
Repeat Rows 2-5 for Pattern Stitch B.
NOTE: Vest is crocheted in strips then whip stitched
together according to the diagram. Ribbing is added once
assembled. For a longer vest, add length even to each
strip.

Strip A (Make 2): Ch 17 (21, 23, 25, 27).
Work in Pattern Stitch A over 16 (20, 22, 24, 26) sts until
12” from beginning. Fasten off.
ASSEMBLY & FINISHING: Whipstitch strips together
according to diagram on next page. Note: Strip A is
attached to front and back of Strip B to form armhole.
Strip B (Make 2): Ch 13 (15, 17, 19, 21).
Work in Pattern Stitch A over 12 (14, 16, 18, 20) sts until
42” from beginning. Fasten off.
Ribbing (Worked around armholes, neck edge, and
bottom edge)-Rnd 1: With RS facing, attach yarn at a
seam and work one round of sc, having an even number of
sts; join with a slip st in first sc.
Rnd 2: Ch 2, dc in each sc around; join to top of ch-2.
Rnd 3: Ch 2, * fpdc around next dc, bpdc around next dc;
repeat from * around; join.
For neck and armholes work Rnd 3 once more, for bottom
edge work Rnd 3 twice more. Fasten off. Weave in all
ends.
Strip C (Make 1): Ch 27.
Work in Pattern Stitch B over 26 sts until 21” from
beginning. Fasten off.
Panel D (Make 1): Ch 27.
Work in Pattern Stitch B over 26 sts until length 17 1/2”
from beginning. Fasten off.
