Lining
Cut a 13.5” x 2.75” rectangle and a 3.5”
circle. I found the salt container in my pantry perfect for tracing the circle.
Figure A
Fold and press one long side of the rectangle down 1⁄4”. Fold down another 1⁄4”
and press again.
Fold the rectangle in half lengthwise with
right sides together. Using a 1⁄4” seam,
sew sides together and press seams
open, forming a tube that will line the inner
sides of the bowl.
Figure B
Next, carefully pin the rectangle tube to
the circle with right sides facing, leaving
the pressed edge of the rectangle at the
top.
Begin by pinning the bottom edge of the
tube to the top, bottom, left, and right of
the circle center with even spaces between each pin. (See Fig. B)
Figure C
Pin again evenly between the pins, and
again, pleating the remaining fabric of the
tube as needed. Be sure to leave the circle flat. (See Fig. C)

Place the lining inside the crocheted bowl
and whipstitch together, bringing the two
edges as close as possible. (See Fig. D)
Attach hardware
Figure D
Fold the finished bowl in half and use stitch
markers to mark the sides, leaving 23
stitches between the markers on both sides.
Sew the marked stitches to the hole on
each side of the purse handle. (See Fig. E)
Next, determine the center of each side
of the bowl and sew it to the center of the
handle.
Figure E
Figure F
Working from the center out, use a whipstitch to pull the edge of the crochet and
lining into the hollow of the purse handle.
(See Fig. F) Use your fingers to help push
the lining into the hollow to hide your stitches so that only the lining can be seen on
the inside of the purse. Stitch again through
the side hole of the handle and tie off with a
hidden French knot.
To finish, stitch again from the center to
side and repeat for the other side of the
purse. Your purse is complete! (See Fig G)
