Thank you to
all of the wonderful blanketeers who
have donated and delivered blankets
to us for Project Linus. We have also
had several welcome volunteers who
are happy to help ready the blankets
for gifting when we get a number of
them. Any of you
knitters/crochetters/quilters/sewers
who wish to donate yarn or fabric for
those keen to work on blankies can
bring them here, and of course, we
welcome you folks who are so kind to
use your
knitting/crochet/quilting/sewing time
for children in need. I spoke to
Barbara at Variety Club this week, and
she sent her thank you for helping all
the children in need with the comfort
of love in a handmade blanket. Note:
Parent’s Magazine voted Project Linus
as one of the 10 children’s charities
deserving of your support. 2,293,340
blankets donated worldwide so far.

Another group needing volunteers has
come to our attention, through our
latest part time helper, Meaghan. She
is asking for donations of yarn, old
needles, hat patterns, and volunteers

Peru, a fair trade initiative to benefit
the children of the region’s shepherds
who live far below the poverty line and
whose illiteracy rate is 95%. These
yarns have been daily sellers, and we
have their new children’s book, and a
new summer book by Jane Ellison
coming with new colours of their

Beginner and Beyond knitting

one of our beginner teachers, Edita Michalek,
who is taking Nihon Vogue with Jean Wong,
and wants to teach knitting in her retirement
years coming, and Michelle Prefontaine, who
has retired from a long career in nursing, and
wants to share her love and knowledge of
knitting with everyone! Michelle’s available
anytime for teaching beginner knitting, so
we should have some weekday classes set up
for her soon. Our class organizer, Maria
Flather, also taking Nihon Vogue, has been
enjoying teaching Beginner’s to knit, Jan.

Basic knitting skills required for the

Intermediate Knitting:
$85–6 wks.
Jan.10/09 start. Sat. morn. 10:30-12:30. Min.
5/class. We have a brilliant teacher who wants
to teach you all she knows about knitting, and
she knows a lot! This is Pat Dyksterhuis, a
graduate of Jean Wong’s Level 4 classes. These
are project based classes, you choose the
project and get help from the teacher as you
knit. You will learn so much in this class,
because you learn from what the others in class
are doing as well. Register now for the next
class.
Introduction to Lace Workshop
Nihon Vogue Certificate Knitting
Course.
These classes are the only ones of
their kind offered in North America.
Get your name on the list right away,
only 8 spaces available. These are
certificate classes with Nihon Vogue Knitting
School of Japan affiliation. Nihon Vogue has
had a school operating in Japan for 52 years,
and has trained 50,000 plus knitting
instructors! This is like a University Knitting
course. The 1st year is one year in
duration, with a once a week class for
5 weeks, then 2 weeks off, repeating
for the year. The tuition is $1050,
payable first day of class, (deposit of
25% needed to hold your place) plus
$150 for textbooks needed. These
are a set of 4 texts, good for the first 2
years of the course. (Second year
tuition will be same price, using texts
you already have). This 1 year knitting
course is appropriate for all skill
levels, from beginner to master
knitters. Even master knitters have
learned much from Jean. Your first
seven projects will be
1. pull-over vest with no shaping, your
choice of boat, V neck or round neck:
2. top down sweater (or fair-isle yoke
top down if you have already done this
workshop with her);
4 set in sleeve sweaters:
3. pullover round neck,
4. pullover V-neck,
5. Cardigan round neck,
6. cardigan V-neck
7. Crochet vest.
8. design your own.
You will knit a lacy scarf with yarn of your
choice, learning provisional cast on and knit the

3 sessions, $50, Dec. 6-20/08
Attendance will be taken, and your projects
marked. Certificates not issued if you miss more
than 6 classes.
Sampler Knitting Workshop
3rd year is $1050, 32 weeks, 2 hours
per class, text price to be determined.
You can take 5 weeks, 1 week break,
or go right through. 4 garments
required. Can combine knit and
crochet. You will learn 51 designs.
4th year $1450. 40 weeks, 2 hours
per class. Can break every 5 weeks if
wish. Very little homework required.
3 garments will be made, 1 knit, 1
crochet, 1 afghan crochet. You will
knit and crochet many swatches in
class.
$175.00-10wks. Jan. 10/09, Sat aft. 1-3PM.
Learn to knit aran, intarsia, Entrelac, fairisle and
other knitting patterns you would like to learn, in
sampler sizes with Pat Dyksterhuis. Squares
can be joined into an afghan when you’re done.

Professional Finishing Classes
Jean Wong teaches the following classes, Nihon
Vogue trained with 9 years teaching experience
in a Taiwanese knitting school. For perfect
results, we suggest this challenging series; we
have had all levels of knitters, from
intermediate skills to masters, all learning many
expert techniques. All students begin with level
1. We offer day and evening classes. These are
an abbreviated version of the Nihon Vogue
certificate class, no certificate offered, for those
who don’t wish to commit to a year of knitting
school. There are 8 levels offered.
Professional finishing, level 1
$220 for 10 wks. start You will knit a round
neck pullover vest, from scratch (no pattern to
follow) shaped armholes. Learn the exacting
Japanese knitting techniques, and learn how to
knit to fit, without following someone else's
pattern
Professional finishing, level 2
$220 for 10 wks. Start Jan. 12/09/ Mon. eves.,
7-9PM. Graduates of level 1, knit a short or long
sleeve round neck pullover. Learning perfect
armhole shaping for set-in sleeves, perfect setin sleeve shaping,, invisible cast off, pattern
draftng. Get your name on the list for the next
class.
Professional finishing, level 3
$220 for 10 wks. Choose from 2 classes, Jan
14 start, 10:15AM, or Jan 15 start, 10”15AM.
Graduates of level 1 & 2 learn more about
Japanese knitting techniques, matching
patterns at side and shoulder seams, armhole
shaping and math involved, shaping collars, you
will be making a lace or aran v-neck pullover.
Professional finishing, level 4
$220, for 10 wks. Get your name on the list for
the next class. Graduates of level 3 knit a
raglan v-neck pullover, matching patterns
perfectly, using stitch patterns, and using one
colour yarn.
Handmaiden sleeveless shaped shrug
workshop,
an Introductory workshop with Jean Wong, 5
weeks, $100.00, max 10 students. Want to
take a shorter class with Jean and see how you
