Symantec™ System Recovery 2013 is a disk-based system recovery solution for servers, desktops, and laptops that enables
businesses to recover from system loss or disasters in minutes, not hours or days. With the ability to rapidly restore complete
physical and virtual systems, even to dissimilar hardware, remote locations, or virtual environments, System Recovery
minimizes data loss and downtime and provides administrators with the ability to meet ambitious recovery time objectives and
service-level agreements with ease.
System Recovery helps you protect your organization proactively by capturing automated backups—without disrupting
productivity. Flexible recovery capabilities then allow you to recover what you need, when and where you need it.
System Recovery is the perfect standalone solution for single servers and can scale to larger environments as well, working in
conjunction with Symantec™ System Recovery Management Solution. With more than one million protected systems, System

System Recovery 2013 (all editions) is generally available the first half of 2013.
4. Have any product editions been EOL’d?
No product editions have been discontinued. As a friendly reminder, the Symantec Backup Exec™ System Recovery 2010
Starter Kit was discontinued in March 2011.

Unified Extensible Firmware
Interface (UEFI) support
Enables the product on UEFI systems which significantly reduce the boot time to a few seconds compared to BIOS. System Recovery
now enables boot from UEFI in addition to BIOS.
64-bit support
Full 64-bit support is provided for the product as well as for SRD and GRO. Makes the product ready for leveraging the benefit of
modern operating system and drivers, many of which will be available in 64-bit only.

7. Can System Recovery perform Physical-to-Virtual and Virtual-to-Physical conversions?
Yes. The ease and speed with which System Recovery can perform physical-to-virtual (P2V) and virtual-to-physical (V2P)
system conversions ensures administrators can easily perform an immediate system recovery to a virtual environment in
seconds.
An easy-to-use virtual conversion wizard built into System Recovery allows for quick conversions directly to virtual machine
disk (VMDK) or virtual hard disk (VHD) files. Additionally, IT administrators can set a schedule for having physical recovery
points (backups) converted to virtual systems enabling a protected server to be available immediately in a virtual environment
should it fail. System Recovery can also perform V2P system conversions. This offers customers a cost-effective, rapid, and
easy-to-use method of meeting their disaster recovery needs.
8. How is System Recovery licensed?
System Recovery is licensed on a per-system basis. For example, if you have 20 Windows servers you want to protect with
System Recovery, you would purchase 20 licenses of System Recovery Server Edition. If you have 20 host servers, you would

purchase 20 licenses of System Recovery Virtual Edition. The Virtual Edition protects an unlimited number of guest machines
per host. The centralized management solution and granular restore options are both included for free.
9. Have prices or SKUs changed?
There are no price changes with this release. Symantec continues to offer System Recovery at an extremely competitive price.
The product SKUs have been updated to reflect this new release.
10. Is this a chargeable upgrade for existing Backup Exec System Recovery or System Recovery customers?
Customers who are current with maintenance or support contracts for previous versions of Backup Exec System Recovery or
System Recovery software can upgrade to the appropriate System Recovery 2013 licenses at no additional charge. Existing
customers who do not have current maintenance or support contracts may upgrade to the latest version at up to 35
percent off MSRP through their preferred reseller.
11. Will existing customers with maintenance receive a notification regarding this new release?
Yes, existing customers with maintenance will receive a letter from Symantec directing them to a URL
(https://fileconnect.symantec.com/licensing/) where they can select a language, enter their existing serial number, and then
either download the product directly or request that a physical CD be mailed to them.
12. What do I need to know about backward compatibility with System Recovery?
If you are running Backup Exec System Recovery version 8.5, 2010, or System Recovery 2011 you can upgrade directly to
System Recovery 2013 without uninstalling the previous version. If you are on a version prior to Backup Exec System Recovery
8.5, you must uninstall the previous version and reinstall the new version. Recovery points created by previous versions of
Backup Exec System Recovery, such as Backup Exec System Recovery version 8.5, 8.0, or 7.0, are fully supported by System
Recovery 2013 and can be recovered without issues.
13. How many systems with System Recovery installed on them can be managed by a single System Recovery Management
Solution server?
The Recovery Management Solution enables centralized management of System Recovery clients. It simplifies the
infrastructure and operational management aspects of a large System Recovery environment saving administrators’ time and
lowering overall cost of ownership. With the System Recovery Management solution, you can manage up to 5,000 System
Recovery clients (any mix of Server Edition, Small Business Server Edition, Desktop Edition, or Linux Edition) from a single
instance of System Recovery Management Solution.
14. What software encryption levels are offered in System Recovery 2013?
