Lutheran Church. Interment

C e m e t e r y.
Noreen, 89,
died Sunday evening
at Sheridan
Memorial
Hospital in
Plentywood.
Noreen,
NOREEN
the
oldest
daughter of LAGERQUIST
Norbert and
Edith (Charlson) Lenz, was
born in Williston, N.D., on
Jan. 10, 1925. She died in
Sheridan Memorial Hospital
on July 20, 2014, surrounded
by her family and their love.
Noreen grew up in northwestern North Dakota with
her parents, her sister Kay,
and brother Don. She graduated from Ray High School
in 1942, attended Minot
State and the University of
North Dakota before going
to work at Boeing in Seattle.
In 1943, she met her soul
mate, Eugene Lagerquist, in
Minot, shortly before he left
for service in World War II.
After a two-year separation,
Noreen traveled to the Seattle area to meet Gene who
was returning from overseas. They were married two
weeks later on Sept. 29, 1945.
This union brought them
“her girls,” Jeanne and
Mary. The family lived in
Ray, N.D., and Bainville, before moving to Plentywood
in 1958. She was a dedicated
mother and homemaker,
and enjoyed the friendships
and activities that came
from being a Superintendent’s wife.
After
Gene’s
passing, Noreen was fortunate
enough to find renewed
friendship and companionship with a childhood
friend, Jerry Ulmen.
Noreen was a member of
the Plentywood Lutheran
Church and was involved
in several organizations in
the community, including
Village Hostesses. She had
many hobbies including
crossword puzzles, playing
Bridge, Cribbage and Smear,
creating greeting cards,
reading, baking, cooking
and caring for her greatgrandchildren.
Noreen is best known for
her love of family, her hospitality, her love of sports,
her sense of humor and
her class. She was happiest when surrounded by her
family during such times as
the holidays and trips to Medora. Noreen was accepting
of everyone and no one was
ever a stranger for long. Over
the years, she welcomed
many into her kitchen for
Jeopardy, snacks, “gramma
drinks,” friendship and love.
Noreen is survived by her
sister, Kay Shea of Seattle,
Wash.; her two daughters,
Jeanne Nathe of Redstone
and Mary Chandler of
Plentywood; grandchildren
Judd Nathe of Sidney, Tara
Nathe of Minot, N.D., Traci
(Dwight) Von Schriltz of
Billings, Korey Beaudette
of Plentywood and Nicole
(Josh) Jensen of Dagmar.
Noreen is survived by five
great-grandchildren, Luke
Nathe, Jonah and Jaelee Von
Schriltz, and Kaj and Atley
Jensen.
Noreen is preceded in
death by her parents, Norbert and Edith Lenz; her
husband, Eugene; her brother, Don Lenz; her grandson,
Bram Jensen; and her sonsin-law, Kent Nathe and Jerry
Beaudette.
Fulkerson Funeral Home
of Plentywood has charge
of arrangements. Read and

remembrances, and send
cards and flowers online at

School in 1937, and entered
Eastern Montana College

Her first teaching position was at Cheery Creek, a
one-room school, 18 miles
northeast of Shawmut.
She also taught one-room
schools at Allendale, near

was while teaching at Pineview she met Earling Haaland. They were married on
June 9, 1945, at the American
Lutheran Church in Billings.
Katherine and Earling
joined Emmanuel Lutheran
church in Shepherd in 1953.
Service at Emmanuel involved Sunday School Superintendent for 20 years,
Parish Board of Education,
Council, Luther League Advisor, and ELCW. Katherine

1945. From time to time, in
later years, she worked as
a substitute teacher in the

Katherine was always
a gracious and welcoming host to visitors; quickly
getting the coffee pot on
and some snacks ready. She
loved all of her family very
much and will be lovingly
remembered by many. She
felt so richly blessed, as are
we for having felt her love
for us.
Visitation will be noon
to 9 p.m., Friday at Smith
Downtown Chapel, and one
hour before service at the
church. Services will be held
on Saturday, July 26, at 2

that memorials be directed
to Emmanuel Lutheran
Church, Shepherd and to St.
John’s Lutheran Ministries,

Charles Paul Springer
Charles Paul Springer
was born in Sewickley, Pa.,
on Aug. 27, 1937. He lived in
Leetsdale, Pa., until he enlisted in the United States
Marine Corps after high
school graduation. Following his honorable discharge from the Marines,
he attended Montana State
College (now University) in
Bozeman where he had been
recruited to play football for
the Bobcats. It was at Bozeman he met Carol Christison, whom he married in
1962. From that marriage
came the two children
whom he loved and was immensely proud of, Trenne
Michelle and John Kenneth.
Following his graduation from MSC, Chuck
was employed in the field
of education serving as a
physical education teacher,
coach — and after obtaining his master’s degree
from Eastern Montana College — high school guidance
counselor. He also served
for many years as the athletic trainer at EMC. Chuck
loved participating in anything athletic or having to
do with outdoors. He enjoyed many sports, swimming, horseback riding and
trips to the mountains, and
shared that love with family. After his divorce, he
went home to Pennsylvania
to work as a Youth Advocate
and later an Elder Advocate
in the Allegheny County
Court System until his retirement. Chuck then returned to the place he loved
— Montana — to live in Billings until his death on July
16, 2014.
He is survived by his
daughter, Trenne Fields
(David)
of
Nerstrand,
Minn.; three grandchildren
whom he adored, Jordan,
Mason and Kennan Fields;
his son, John Kenneth of
Austin, Texas; his brother,
Herbert Springer, and his
sister Mary Lou Davidson,
both of Pennsylvania; and
numerous cousins, nieces
and nephews.
Chuck was an ardent
Bobcat and Pittsburgh
Steeler fan, a ferocious pinochle player, and admirer
of Montana’s beautiful outdoors. He loved his family and cherished spending time with his kids and
grandkids. He was loved
and will be missed terribly.
A funeral mass will take
place at 10 a.m. on Tuesday,
July 29, at St. Thomas the
Apostle Church in Billings.

and attended Brigham AVERY GLENN
Young University on a
music scholarship. While

Lake Temple. Dad graduated
from BYU in 1951 with a BA
in Music. He taught music
in Deaver, Wyo., and Byron, Wyo., his first five years
while earning a Master of
Music degree from the University of Oregon. In 1956,
he accepted a teaching position in Billings, where he
taught band at Senior and
West High Schools and was
appointed Supervisor of
Music for the Billings Public Schools in 1967. He was
assistant professor of music at BYU from 1971-74. In
1974, he became the Music
Education Specialist for the
Utah State Office of Education. He received a Doctorate in education from BYU.
His favorite music was
jazz, and he played piano in
dance bands in high school,
college and throughout his
career. He enjoyed training
teachers and helping them
to be successful in their
classrooms. As the “Music
Man,” he could play most
any instrument. He fulfilled
many callings as a member
of the Church of Jesus Christ
of Latter-day Saints. In his
later years, he enjoyed serving in the Provo LDS Temple
and playing piano for Primary children.
Dad’s greatest love was
his family. He is survived by
