Understand my Camera! With Ian
TEXTILE ARTS with Debbie Rasmussen It's time to burn, scorch,
Arcus
manipulate and interrogate. Stitch, weave, dye, embellish and construct!
Fabric that is - Into wearable art and artable wares! Douglas Arts Base has
received funding from the Regional Arts Fund to hold a 10 week workshop in
Textile Arts with professional, Debbie Rasmussen. The fabulous creations made
during this course will be displayed in an exhibition at the Council Chambers
in Mossman to be held in October. All levels. 10 weeks.
You have just brought that shiny new camera home from
the shop only to be confronted with a plethora of dials
and buttons. Don’t Panic – Ian is here to help. Targeted at
complete photography novices, these two day workshops
will give you the skills and understanding you need to
make sense of today’s modern digital cameras. Beginners.

Workshop 1 - Saturday 9th and 16th August – 9am to 3pm.
Cost - $80 for members, $100 for non-members (includes
USB stick)
Thursday 17 of July to 18 of September – 5:30 to 8:30 pm. Cost - $100 for
members, $125 for non-members. (Includes most materials)
Workshop 2 - Saturday 18th to 25th October – 9am to 3pm.
Cost - $80 for members, $100 for non-members (includes
USB stick)
Fund, DAB has received funding to run 2, full day workshops with master
mosaicer, Dominic Johns from Shardworks Cairns. Learn to create masterful
and stunning mosaics from the expert. Particular focus is on developing
skills necessary to create mosaics suitable for installation in public spaces.
Intermediate to Advanced.
How to take GREAT Shots with Ian Arcus
If you already have a basic understanding of your
camera but would like to build upon your skills and
improve your photography, then this 5 week course
will be perfect for you. Through a combination of
theory and practical lessons, Ian will arm you with
new abilities, unique approaches and camera know
how. Intermediate. 5 weeks
Tuesday 5th August to Tuesday 2nd of September - 1:30pm
to 4:30pm. Cost - $100 for members, $125 for nonmembers. (Includes USB stick)
Introduction to Mosaics
with Sam Mathews
Have you ever wanted to learn the skills
needed to create stunning mosaics? Sam is just
the person to teach you. Over 5 weeks you will
gain all the skills you need to confidently create
these unique art forms. Starts on Saturday the
26th of July – 9am to 12pm. Cost - $100 for
members, $125 for non-members.
Mosaics with Dominic Johns - Through the Regional Arts Development
Workshop 1, 30th August, Cost, $50 for members. (Materials can be purchased on the
day) Workshop 2, 31st August. Cost, $50 for members. (Materials can be purchased
on the day)
Mosaic Workshops - In one day, you will create and complete a
mosaic with Sam Mathews Workshop 1 Make a Garden Paver, Saturday 21st
of September – 10am to 1pm. Cost $40. Workshop 2, Create a Mosaic Tree Jewel,
Saturday 19th of October – 10am to 1pm, Cost $30. All materials included in costs.

PEER SUPPORT GROUPS – casual groups, no tutors but lots of
friends and inspiration. Cost, $5 per member.

Join well-known local artist Jill Booth
for a morning of creativity and exploration. Covers all aspects of Painting and Drawing.
Every Monday, 9:30 to 12:30. $20 members, $25 non - members
Christmas Decoration Fundraiser. Love Christmas, Love Craft – then this fundraiser is for you. Come along and learn to make stunning Christmas
decorations for your tree, or as gifts for your friends and family. Each 3 hour workshop will include all the materials you need. Fundraiser Workshop 1.

More Exciting Courses coming up! - DAB is only able to offer affordable courses taught
by professionals through the generosity of funding organisations. The following courses
will run if our grant applications are successful. Botanical illustration with Leonie Norton.
Renowned botanical artist and published author Leonie Norton has been invited to DAB
to run a 5 day workshop in September. (Pending funding through the FRRR) Print
Making with Elizabeth Hunter. Master Printmaker, Elizabeth Hunter has been invited to
DAB to run a 10 week printmaking course. (Pending funding through the Arts Council)
Art for Kids with Debbie Rasmussen. Thursday afternoons. (Pending funding from the
Community Support Council) Fingers Crossed and we will keep you posted.
