WSA Wine Challenge Returns!
Rules for Participation
The 4th edition of the Challenge marks new beginnings for this
highly anticipated biennial competition. WSA Wine Challenge,
formerly known as Wine&SpiritsAsia Challenge, returns with a whole
new concept featuring a respected judging panel with experienced
professionals from the food and hospitality industry. These judges
represent accurate characteristics of the Asian palate.
How to Participate
1. Four samples must be submitted for each wine entry. This is to ensure sufficient bottles
for re-tastings, out-of-condition samples, trophy tastings and photography. Winning
wines will be displayed for visitors to taste during Wine&SpiritsAsia exhibition. All wines
will not be returned to entrants.
1.
Complete the entry form with details of the wine entry.
One entry form for each wine entry. Fax the completed

responsibility for incorrect details due to illegible writing.

be sent within 3 working days, together with the detailed
shipping instructions

By renaming to WSA Wine Challenge, the competition leverages on a
new name that represents its dedication, relevance and significance
in Asia’s promising wine market. According to The Sydney Morning
Herald, Asia’s wine consumption has risen sharply in recent years and
the trend looks set to continue. It is projected to grow annually between 10-20% over the next five
years, compared with 1% growth worldwide (The Sydney Morning Herald, August 2008). The WSA
Wine Challenge is certainly excited to be part of this development with the anticipated increase
in wine submissions.
4. The wine must be made, 100% from grapes grown in the country in which the wine is
bottled, with the exception of those cases of legitimate cross-regional and intra-national
blends.
Similar to previous editions of the Challenge, 2010’s competition will anticipate the participation
of wineries, winemakers, wine importers and traders from all over the world. Wine submissions
will be judged by country, region and varietal. Special awards will be presented for the Best Red,
Best White, Best Sparkling and Best Wine of the Challenge.
6. All wines handled by the appointed freight forwarders before entry into Singapore can
enjoy duty and tax free for the submission. For other forms of wine submissions, please
check with your forwarder or person taking care of your freight. All carriage, clearance
and storage charges which are payable on the wines must be borne by entrants.
1.
WSA2010 exhibitors are entitled to enter one wine for free. Subsequent wines will be
charged at SGD50.00* per entry. One free entry will be given for a min of 6sqm.
2.
For non-exhibitors, each entry will be charged at SGD150.00*. However, for those with 10
entries and above, each entry will be charged at SGD120.00*.
Let your wine speak of its own merits by submitting your entry! Please refer to the attached entry
form for more details.
7. All wines must arrive at the competition venue latest by 6 April 2010 per shipping
instructions. Late arrivals after the cut-off dates will not be accepted. No refunds will be
made if the wines fail to arrive by the deadline.
3.
Payment of entry fees: now till 15 March 2010.
4.
No companies will be invoiced. Instead, each entrant will be issued an official receipt once
payment is received.
5. When the same wine is submitted by more than one company, all entrants’ names will
be featured equally in the results. Fees for multiple entries will not be refunded.
8. Entrants may submit as many wines as they wish.
Benefits of Participation
*Local companies in Singapore will be charged with GST.
The Judging Criteria
Media Exposure:
Winning wine labels get opportunities to be
mentioned across several media platforms. Over
100 international press members visit WSA,
generating articles in leading trade publications,
online portals and newspapers in the region.
Additionally, producers / manufacturers of winning
wine labels will be featured in the Show Daily which
is distributed daily to the trade buyers during the
show!
Entry Fees
A 100-point rating system to allow for simplicity and consistency in the evaluation process.
Rating will cover: Visual aspect of the Wine
Aroma and Bouquet
Flavour and Finish
Overall Wine expression and quality
• All judges will be presented with a previously rated wine, which is tasted non-blind as
reference point to ensure a fair, accurate and consistent rating.
Winners of the Challenge in 2008 were
prominently displayed at WSA2008
Visibility
• Bottles are coded and bagged, and all capsules and corks are removed. Other necessary
efforts are made to conceal the wines identity from the tasters.
Winning wines will be opened for tasting during WSA2010. Information about the wines will also
be featured during the tasting sessions. This is your opportunity to promote your wines to the
region’s buyers!
• The tasters only see the code that matches that of the bag covering the wine they taste, and
blank spaces for their note, scores and drink recommendation.
Recognition by a Distinguised and Respected Judging Panel
• The tasters are told only the general type of wine (varietal and/or region) and the vintage.
No information about the winery or the price of the wine is available to the tasters while
they taste the wine.
• All the wines will be tasted blind within its category – the same types of wines are tasted in
the Flight per category and price range.
WSA Wine Challenge 2010 features respected and authoritative wine connoisseurs, sommeliers,
restaurateurs, procurers and merchants as members of a distinguished judging panel. With a
wealth of practical and business experience in their respective professions, they are the industry
experts to discern the Challenge’s wine entries for Asia’s palate.
• The wines will be served to the jury at the prescribed temperature to ensure wines are
tasted at their best conditions.
• The tasting is conducted in a proper aroma free environment with properly sized and
cleaned tasting glasses from Chef & Sommelier
