How to Handle Bulky Items
Bulky and Hard To Handle Items
Residential customers receive two (2) free bulky item pick-ups per calendar
year. Bulky item pick-up is done on your collection day. Examples of acceptable
items include: couches, chairs, washers, dryers, large boxes or containers, water
heaters, mattresses, refrigerators, rugs and tree trunks. As part of the enhanced
services, electronic waste (e-waste) such as televisions, VCRs, cell phones,
monitors, microwaves or other items considered e-waste will now be collected as
bulky items. Additional Bulky item collections can be scheduled for an additional
fee.
To schedule a pickup:
 Call 24 hours in advance of your normal collection day to Athens Services
at (888) 336-6100.
 Place your bulky items curbside next to your cart by 7:00 a.m. on your collection day.
 Items collected per pick up is limited to three cubic yards. Individual items
may be no more than 8 feet by 4 feet or 150 pounds.
 No single item that cannot be handled by two (2) workers will be accepted.
Reminder!


Hazardous substances or waste will not be collected as a bulky item.
Any item (s) to large to fit in your collection carts will be counted as a bulky
item if left for pick up by your carts on your collection day.
Example: large cardboard boxes if they cannot be flattened and
placed in you recycling cart.

Recycle Your Yard Waste
Athens Services offers WEEKLY yard waste
recycling at the curbside! This gives your
household yet another opportunity to reduce
your trash.
The yard waste recycling program is easy to
use - just place all acceptable materials
(see list below) into your green cart and
place at the curbside on your weekly collection day. Remember, when you recycle right
you're not only saving valuable resources,
you're also helping your City maintain statemandated diversion rates.








Do not use plastic

How To Handle Household Hazardous Material
Neither Trash Nor Drain……..
It is illegal to dispose of Hazardous material or electronic waste (EWaste) in the garbage, down storm drains, or onto the ground.
Chemicals in illegally or improperly disposed hazardous waste can be
released into the environment and contaminate our air, water and possibly the food we eat. Hazardous material and electronic waste in the
trash can put the garbage handlers at risk and potentially cause truck
fires.
Proper Disposal
To avoid an interruption of your service, please do not place hazardous
materials in your trash. State and Federal laws prohibits improper disposal of hazardous materials and requires special handling of these
wastes.

Athens Services is providing document shredding
services at No Cost
This is your opportunity to clean out old files and
properly dispose of personal papers without compromising your personal information. The paper shredding will be done onsite and you will be able to witness the destruction of your documents. After the
documents are thoroughly shredded, the paper is
recycled.
There is no limit on how much you can bring
Please remove all plastic binders and binder clips
Scavenging
Scavenging is the theft of recyclable materials and theft of
these materials from your collection cart increases the
cost of recycling collection and will ultimately cost you, the
rate payer more money. It is unlawful for any person to
scavenge materials from residential premises or from
commercial/industrial premises.
What to do:

For safety reasons, we recommend you do not confront the scavenger.

Place recyclables out in the morning instead of the
night before collection.

Report the crime: Call the Police Department with the
location, vehicle description including license plate
