into your page…resize it to approx 2”. Pressing the return key several times and then press the up arrow
key to move up on the page will allow you to easily work under your picture once it is placed.]
Part 2—Create your page 2 of your sample web page—filename: page_2_sample
(Be sure to save in your folder as a web page, not a single file or filtered web
page).
Your lastname Page Two Word Sample Web Page
[After creating a page 2, you will make a link to page 2 and another link to the cisd home page].
Create a page 2 (filename: page_2_sample_urs), save it as a web page…remember not to use single file
web page nor web page filtered. Did you save it in the same folder (yourlastname_name_folder).
Locate a graphic on the Internet which has a solid background you would like to delete as we will be
opening the image in Photoshop to clean up the graphic and resaving it to insert into your page.
1. Save the image in your folder using a relevant name.
2. Open in Photoshop.
3. Double-click on the background layer and save the layer as Layer O or Original as a background layer
may not be modified.
4. Use the Magic Wand tool to easily delete the unwanted bg color. Resave a filename2 with the
extension of .png (portable network graphic) which supports transparency and gets rid of the
unwanted background.
Image before (unprofessional—background needs to go)
Cleaned up image saved as a .png
Add content to your page related to your course guidelines, a curriculum topic, club info, etc.
Insert a web divider (aka a horizontal rule) to divide your body content from the links you will be
making.

THINGS TO REMEMBER ABOUT CREATING WEB PAGES:
1. Save web pages as web pages, not single file or filtered web pages.
2. To apply a background color or import a custom background, use the page color icon from the
Page Layout tab.
3. To create an internal link, highlight the text to be linked, right click and choose the hyperlink
option, or click on the insert tab, and choose the hyperlink icon, locate the file in the folder used
to store your files and click ok. Be sure to link to the actual file name and not the folder which
Word created as a storage location for images and other objects related to each Web page.
4. To make an external link, follow the instructions in #3 but use the web address of the site…you
must include the entire web address including the http://www.
5. To test your site, open your browser > go to File > Open > Browse and locate your saved file in
your folder . Your links should all work if created properly.
6. Your Web Pages can all be saved as .pdf files which are easy to place into your resources folder
or link to your website with interactive working links. Resave using a different name (use
filename_v2.pdf) to keep the original, editable copy in place. 98% of computers have Adobe
Reader allowing visitors to easily view your documents.
