Coaching Staff
Chad Fitzgerald will be entering his eighth year on
the baseball staff and first as head coach. Fitzgerald
oversees all facets of the program, working closely
with the Berg pitching staff. Fitzgerald was awarded
the title of associate head coach in January 2011
and was named as the successor to Matt Palm prior
to the 2014 season.
Nick Soldano is entering his first year as a
graduate assistant for the Heidelberg baseball
program. Soldano, a Zion, Illinois native,
comes to Heidelberg after graduating from
North Park University (Chicago, IL) in 2013.
Over his seven years, Fitzgerald has guided one
of the top pitching staffs in the Ohio Athletic
Conference and arguably the nation. In his tenure,
Fitzgerald had led three All-American performers,
Chad Fitzgerald
the 2010 Mideast Region Pitcher of Year and the
Head Coach
2009 and 2010 OAC Pitcher of the Year. Along the
way, five hurlers have picked up Mideast Region
honors and eight have been All-OAC First Team selections.
In the classroom, Heidelberg’s pitching contingent has excelled, as Nathan James
earned the inaugural Elite 88 Award in 2010, to highlight four Academic All-OAC
honorees and one all-district pick under Fitzgerald’s mentoring.
Former members of his staff sit atop the single season record book in four
categories and are the leaders in three career record book columns. Since 2008,
Heidelberg has set four team single season pitching marks.
As a student-athlete, Fitzgerald was a pitcher and two-time Academic AllAmerican at Seton Hill University in Greensburg, Pa. Seton Hill racked up 124
victories over the course of his four-year playing career, including a 45-20 season
in 2006.
In 2006, Seton Hill also claimed the American Mideast Conference Championship
and went on to win the NAIA Region IX and the East Coast Super Regional’s,
earning a bid to the NAIA World Series. Fitzgerald posted a 4-1 record on the
mound in 10 appearances, with a 3.69 earned run average during the Griffins’
championship season in 2006.
He had one of the most prolific careers
in Vikings baseball history on the mound,
finishing as North Park’s career strikeout leader,
2nd in career wins, and 2nd in strikeouts in a
season. He was named an ABCA Division III
All-American in 2012 as well as being selected
as All-Conference and All-Region for multiple
seasons.
Nick Soldano
Graduate Assistant
Entering his fifth season on the Heidelberg
Baseball coaching staff is Keith Theis. Theis
is a native of nearby New Riegel, Ohio. Theis
works predominately with the Heidelberg
catchers and hitters but assists in all assets of
the program. Theis helped mentor the national
2011 Gold Glove winner Jordan Martin. The
Rawlings Gold Glove award is given to the best
defensive player nationally at each position
annually.
Theis brings valuable coaching experience
from the high school ranks after serving as
an assistant varsity baseball coach for New
Riegel High School for three seasons. He was
responsible for working with the pitchers,
catchers and hitters.
Keith Theis
Assistant Coach
A native of Indianapolis, Indiana, Roesinger is in
his third year at Heidelberg.
Prior to earning his master’s degree from
Heidelberg, Roesinger attended the University of
Dayton, where he graduated in 2010.
Upon graduation, Roesinger received an
assistant coaching position at Lincoln Trial College
in Illinois. Following his time at Lincoln Trail,
Jimmy earned another assistant coach position
with the Wilmington Sharks in the summer of
2012.
Jimmy Roesinger
Assistant Coach
Since arriving in Tiffin, Roesinger has coached 11
All-OAC position players, including the 2014 OAC Player of the Year. He serves
as the infield, hitting and strength coach.
