Program meeting places:
Visitor Center - 5 miles south of Franktown on Hwy 83.
Event Facility Shelters - 1/2 mile past the Visitor Center. Park at the Canyon Point Parking Lot. Hikes will begin near the restrooms.
Pikes Peak Amphitheater - off of Lake Gulch Trail, 400 feet beyond the Event Facility Shelters.
Homestead Parking Lot - on Castlewood Canyon Road, 2 miles south of Hwy 86, just past the entrance station.
West Side Trailhead Parking Lot - on Castlewood Canyon Road, 4 miles south of Hwy 86. Hikes will begin near the restrooms.
Falls Trailhead Parking Lot - on Castlewood Canyon Road, 4.5 miles south of Hwy 86.

Flintknapping
Saturday, September 6th, 12:00pm-2:00pm
Join Park Interpreter Warren Coker for an introduction to the
history of stone tools and the basics of flintknapping. Learn how
breaking and splitting stone into useful tools was a vital part of
Native American life in this area. Meet at the Visitor Center.
Full Moon Hike
Saturday, September 6th, 6:00pm-8:00pm
Join Park Interpreter Warren Coker for a full moon
hike. Learn fun facts about the moon as the
nocturnal animals of the park join us under the
stars! Meet at the Canyon Point Parking Lot and remember to
bring a flashlight.
Medicinal Plants of Castlewood Canyon
Wednesday, September 10th, 10:00am-11:30am
Join Volunteer Naturalist Gary Schroeder as he leads you on a hike
through the canyon where you will learn to identify some of the
plants that may be used medicinally. Program recommended for
adults only. Meet at the Canyon Point Parking Lot.
Morning Hike in the Forest
Saturday, September 13th, 8:00am-10:00am
Join Park Interpreter Warren Coker for a hike through the Douglas
Fir forest on the west side of the park. Learn about plants, animals,
and the unique habitat found within this section of Castlewood
Canyon. Meet at the Falls Trailhead Parking Lot on the west side
of the park..
Castlewood Canyon State Park
4th Annual Haunted Trail
Friday and Saturday,
October 17th and 18th,
7:00pm-9:00pm
Join us for our 4rthannual Haunted Trail event! You and your
family can share a frightening good time after hours at the park.
Go for a guided walk along our haunted trail and enjoy a hay ride.
All ages are welcome!
Have you ever wondered what scary things show up after sunset at
Castlewood Canyon State Park? No, not just wildlife. Ghosts from
the past come out to play when it gets dark.
Your $7.00 park entry fee buys you and everyone in your vehicle a
haunted trail walk, a hay ride back, and a frightening good time.
The Friends of Castlewood Canyon will provide a small token of
appreciation for your attendance. All are welcome except the faint
of heart…and please, NO pets! Come to Castlewood Canyon’s
Haunted Trail for a howling good time.
DAILY PARK HOURS: SEPTEMBER 8:00am-8:00pm & OCTOBER 8:00am-7:00pm
VISITOR CENTER HOURS: 9:00am-5:00pm
PARK PASSES
A Colorado State Park Pass is required on all vehicles entering the park. Daily passes are $7 per vehicle,
annual passes are $70 and are good for one year from the date of purchase at all 42 Colorado State Parks.
All public programs are free of charge with a valid parks pass.

Friends Run for Castlewood Canyon
10k Trail Run and 2 Mile Hike
Sunday, September 14th, 7:00am-12:00pm
Join us for the 1st Annual Friends Run for Castlewood Canyon
10K Trail Race and 2 Mile Family Hike. This event is a
fundraiser. ALL PROFITS will be used for the benefit of
Castlewood Canyon State Park. Come run or hike, have breakfast
while you enjoy the views and help us protect and preserve our

Primitive Clay Pottery
Saturday, September 20th, 10:00am-12:00pm
Join Park Interpreter Warren Coker for this hike to the clay
deposits and make some basic pottery on the banks of Cherry
Creek. Bring water, sunscreen, and shoes that can get wet. Meet
at the Falls Parking Lot on the west side of the park.
Castlewood Canyon 50th Anniversary Celebration
Saturday, September 27th, 10:00am-3:00pm
Come and celebrate with us! It’s Castlewood Canyon State Park’s
50th birthday and we want to share it with everyone. Join us for
games, food and plenty of family fun. Festivities will be held on
the east side of the park at the facilities near the Canyon Point
Parking Lot.
Microscope Hike
Saturday, September 27th, 10:00am-12:00pm
Join Park Interpreter Warren Coker for an educational microscope
hike. Hike along the Inner Canyon Trail and see the fascinating
microscopic creatures from all five habitats in the park. Bring
shoes that can get wet and plenty of water and sunscreen. Meet at
the Canyon Point Parking Lot.
Astronomy Night
Saturday, September 27th, 7:00pm-10:00pm
Join us for an evening program as we enjoy the open sky at
Castlewood Canyon. Bring your binoculars or telescope and enjoy
the stars with us! Meet at the Canyon Point Parking Lot.
Canyon Hike
Sunday, September 28th, 9:00am-1:00pm
Join Volunteer Naturalist Eddie Yenkinson for a 7 mile hike
throughout the canyon. Enjoy the best that Castlewood Canyon
has to offer. Learn about the geology, history, botany and more.
Bring your lunch, sunscreen, rain gear (just in case) and plenty of
water. Meet at the Canyon Point Parking Lot.
EVERY SUNDAY!
Snakes Alive
Every Sunday, 1:30pm-2:15pm
Join Park Ranger Lisa Naughton for a fun and exciting
introduction to snakes. Come and meet our resident bull snakes,
Sid and Nancy, and watch them eat their weekly meal. Meet at the
Visitor Center every Sunday for this 45-minute program.
Yoga in the Park
Every Wednesday in September
8:30am-9:45am
Align Yourself With/In Nature
Join Registered Yoga Teachers for late summer yoga at
Castlewood Canyon. Meet at the Pikes Peak Amphitheater
for 75 minutes of luxurious breathe and movement. You
can't beat the setting!! Bring a yoga mat, blanket, and
plenty of water.
Suggested $10.00 donation. All
proceeds benefit the Friends of
Castlewood Canyon and their myriad of
Canyon enhancement projects.

MUNZEE is now at Castlewood Canyon State Park
What is it? A “QR Code” global scavenger hunt using a smart phone.
How much does it cost? It is a free APP. Why MUNZEE? A great way
to get you as well as your kids involved with the outdoors. Where can
these QR Codes be found? All over the entire world! How many are in
Castlewood Canyon? There are four. How do I get started? Go to the

Castlewood Canyon State Park
100 Mile Challenge
You are invited to hike, run, or snowshoe100 trail miles in
the park and earn a Castlewood Canyon State Park 100 Mile
Challenge Coin.
Get outside, challenge your fitness level, and enjoy your
adventure in the park! Keep track of your own miles and
bring your log to the Visitor Center when you have
completed the challenge, and receive your Castlewood
Canyon State Park 100 Mile Challenge Coin.
The challenge ends December 2015!
