New Students! What you need to know about FIDM:
Elevators:
Please do not try to stop the elevator doors from closing with your arms, legs, or other
body parts. This is dangerous and could cause physical harm. Be courteous to your fellow riders by
holding the doors with the door button on the elevator control panel.
Student ID: You must carry your FIDM Student ID at all times while you are on campus. If you do
not have a Student ID, stop by the Security Desk and get a temporary pass. If you lost your Student
ID you may purchase a replacement ID for $10.00 in the Student Activities Office, Rm. 425.
Smoking:
Smoking is NOT allowed in the classrooms, hallways, bathrooms, or balconies of the FIDM
campus. Smoking is allowed on the 1st floor, near the park, and by the
street entrances.
Earthquake:
If an earthquake occurs while on campus, quickly move away from windows,
shelves, and cabinets. DUCK, COVER, and HOLD! Keep calm, resisting the impulse to run out of the
building. You are much safer inside. Stay on the floor until a trained FIDM Quake Response Team
Personnel arrives.
Fire Safety:
If you hear a fire alarm on your floor, you must evacuate immediately! Proceed to
the closest exit stairwell and continue down to the street level. Do not bring tote bags/personal
belongings with you when exiting the building.
Security Escort Service: FIDM Security provides an escort service for students who take public
transportation late at night. At 9:00 p.m., 9:30 p.m., and 10:00 p.m., a security guard will walk a
student to the Metro Station on 7th & Hope St. To use this service, meet at the rotunda (1st floor)
near the Security Desk. Inquire at the desk for assistance.
Guest Policy: You may not have guests on campus at any time. The only people allowed on the
FIDM Campus are staff, faculty, and students. Please note that your guest may be asked to leave if
you fail to meet security’s rules.
Cell Phones:
Cell phone use is not permitted in any FIDM classroom. Please be courteous
to your fellow students and staff by being aware of your surroundings while using
your phone.
